Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo, AF, HE, Cheesey and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

I'd probably go with the C section too, just because I like to have a plan :) Let us know what you mw says!

I thought the pom bear was hilarious! I just read it and was snorting with laughter the entire time. :o

Teaandcakeplease · 08/01/2011 23:45

Ahhhh finished inception after much pausing to check MN Blush

Must go to bed

Shewhoshallnotbenamed · 08/01/2011 23:54

Ah, it's taken me just under an hour.

I now feel as though I am truly part of the MN community.

Pom Bears will NEVER be the same again.

The thread is truly the stuff of legend - I myself heard of it through another forum.

Off to bed

Hic! ;)

Teaandcakeplease · 09/01/2011 08:28

I like the fact it's becoming a legend on other sites too. Go into the classics topic and read anything there and you'll laugh like a drain.

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 09:41

I just read and commented on the "random conversations with toddlers" thread from Classics. HILARIOUS!

CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 09:44

Shewhomustnotbenamed I love Glee, too! I just got season 1 from my mom for Christmas and am thrilled. I, um, have a major crush on Finn, which makes me feel like a perv, but in RL he's a week older than me actually. Blush

Shewhoshallnotbenamed · 09/01/2011 17:25

Cheerful - yes Glee is just fantastic! I love musicals in general and Glee answered my prayers - just what I need to cheer my week up!

Now, I also have a slight crush on Finn, was also feeling a bit of a perv until I found out he was actually in his late 20's - phew! Not too bad. Mr Schu is the same age as me, he is also quite yummy.

I can not wait until tomorrow night, season 2 starts here in the UK - yay! (I'm assuming you are on the other side of the pond?)

gomummygo · 09/01/2011 18:08

Afternoon all! :)

Anyone have any elderly Ps or GPs? I need a birthday gift idea for an 85yo woman. She's half of a couple that DH and I have sort of adopted over the years. They still live in their own home but are both frail in terms of health, so they don't go out much or do a whole lot of anything really. Last year we took them for a day out for their birthdays which we all enjoyed but neither of them are up to it this year...so I haven't a clue. Their only real interests seem to be their son and grandchildren who they rarely see, no other hobbies that I know of.

The only caveat is that though they have very, very little, they are very proud, so have to be sensitive that we don't offend with anything we give them, iykwim.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Teaandcakeplease · 09/01/2011 19:08

Photo frame for their copious grandchildren pictures? Some extra special tea bags?

Oh I'm rubbish at this aren't I? Shock

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 19:14

I think the photo frame is a great idea tea! I always get nice coffee/tea mugs and then fill them with little things (this year is was cocoa packets, a teeny candle, and hand sanitizer in a "Christmas" scent) and then wrap them prettily with cellophane and ribbon. (I know hand sanitizer is an odd gift but they were the cutest, teeny little decorative bottles :)) Anyway I always give those to people when I'm not sure what to get them :) I gave them to DS' carers, preschool teachers, and the teachers I work with at school. Everyone loved them but it might not be right for an elderly couple...sometimes things like that are nice thought, a mug or nice basket filled with little things. :)

CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 19:15

Though, not thought

Shewhoshallnotbenamed · 09/01/2011 20:09

gomummygo

Have you thought of arranging for their children/grandchildren to visit for the day? Invite the elderly couple for a meal and then turn up and their family are waiting for them?

I also like the photo frame idea. My nan is in her 80's and has dementia, she thrives on her memories from years gone by (less and less on the more recent family events though :( ) So we have got a lot of her favourite pictures framed - she spends hours looking at them and recalling various tales from her childhood/early married life etc.

Tiredmumno1 · 09/01/2011 20:24

Evening all,

sorry gomummy i havent got a clue although the photo is a good idea.

hope you have all had a good day

Tiredmumno1 · 09/01/2011 20:25

Sorry meant photo frame Blush

gomummygo · 09/01/2011 22:54

Loving the ideas, thanks ladies! I'm thinking the photo frame and specialty tea filled mugs might be a perfect combo together actually. (MN Rocks!) They do certainly have copious amounts of photos in boxes that they'd probably love to display.

Shewho I absolutely love the idea, unfortunately their son would never be interested...not a very nice man. :( The grandkids might just go for it though (they are grown now and at least now have the opportunity to make up their own minds), will mention to DH.

I am so terrible at thinking of gift ideas, am so Envy of those of you who can come up with things! Should probably start working on my list for next Christmas anytime now, lol.

Oh and Cheerful I have tiny little hand sanitizers everywhere, so great for purse/car/golf bag/etc., that is not at all an odd gift, I'd be delighted! Grin

Teaandcakeplease · 10/01/2011 07:56

Shame you can't sneak off with the box of photos and scan them in to make a collage of them on an A3 sheet to stick up in their house. I love doing that stuff.

But there's some fab picture frames out there. My mum is only 66 but a picture frame gift is always a winner with her, she likes practical gifts my mum Smile

There's a thread in AIBU about leaving children in a locked car whilst going into the shop for something. Am I the only lone parent who quickly pops into a shop for something and leaves my DCs locked in the car, firmly locked in their car seats? As I'm already getting a flaming.

OP posts:
FabbyChic · 10/01/2011 09:16

Im sure I must have done that at somepoint, always being able to see the car though. This car could not be seen that is the general concern.

valiumredhead · 10/01/2011 09:25

gomummygo my Grandad is 90 and is hard to buy for as he has everything but for the last few years we have given him framed photo of my ds ( his great grandson!) and a hamper full of things he wouldn't normally buy himself - special chocolates, nice coffee/tea, really nice cheese and chutney, you get the idea. He is always thrilled ;)

SO icy her this moring, I'm waiting til it thaws a bit before venturing out!

valiumredhead · 10/01/2011 09:26

Ooops blooming smileys! I meant :)

Teaandcakeplease · 10/01/2011 09:31

The thread's gone off at a tangent a little now.

elmofan · 10/01/2011 10:15

Good morning Smile

I think the picture frame is a great idea . Are those digital ones any good ? I'm thinking of getting one so i can upload loads of photos of the dc's onto it . Hamper sounds great too .
tea i had a glimpse of that thread last night on my phone as i couldn't sleep , i don't think
i could leave the dc's alone in the car for as long as that person did but in saying that i have left my dc's in a locked car whilst paying for petrol & i can see them from the pay station . Thats the only time i have left them & ds (11) knows to keep all doors & windows locked & to honk the horn if anyone goes to try open a door .

Teaandcakeplease · 10/01/2011 10:47

Yes leaving my child in a deserted large retail park car park in a car, isn't something I'd do, no. I've left them in the locked car whilst popping in to pay for petrol and once to grab a pint of milk only. But it's the fact some on there say never ever. As a lone parent I always have the kids with me for all errands. Looking forward to DD starting to school in Sept this year so I'm down to one child for large parts of the day Grin
