To have an MN name which doesn't show that I'm a dad not a mum?

I assume that most people's working assumption (if they think about it) would be that posters on MN are mums not dads. Sometimes I feel that it's slightly cheating to have a name which doesn't clarify things, so I always end up trying to make it clear in anything I post that my point of view is that of a 46 year old bloke not a 23 year old woman.

Zazen...no I don't think men and women can be friends??? Really? I mean do you really think that?? wow 95% of my friends are men. I have a DP who I am marrying next year he knows my friends are men and that for the last 5 weeks I have been out drinking with them every friday and am going again this week.

In RL I am a Cub Scout leader. In recent years there's been a lot of debate about whether girls should be allowed to be Cubs and Scouts (they are now). I'm out of step with most people in the movement because I'm not convinced it's a good idea. I think zazen is out of step with a lot of people in her responses to my OP but I think she's entitled to her view without too much criticism.

How can you get a "parenting website for men?" This is a parenting forum open to all species who are interested in the subject matter. And often people stumble across it by chance and stick around.

Quite possibly there is a childless male go go dancer posting on here, who only discovered it because he was looking to find fruit shoot and greggs sausage roll haters and vent, entered the vortex that is Mumsnet and never left?

As a dragon with hatchlings I don't care what sex you are, even if you are a knight with a lance I won't flame people based on what's in their pants.

rodformyownback · 14/09/2010 20:31

I just hope you have your CRB check. Surely all MNers should be vetted, especially those pesky pervy men! Wink

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 20:56

Pan;

Men and women can be friends providing there are no sexual feelings going on....ime.

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 20:59

ie; I have a very good male friend, but he's about 18 stone and I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.....but he's fab company.

"I don't think men and women can be friends. Not if you have a wife. And if you do have one, how does she feel that you are chatting to all these women? "

...Zazen is a freak. Imagine a man getting married and then demanding his wife delete all her old male friend's phone numbers from her address book. He'd be rightly accused of rampant, paranoid control-freakism. Zazen's views are just as backwards as this.

Or is Zazen from one of those sad, stone-age cultures where men and women never socialise? Should women be barred from working in an environment where men are to be found? Should married men avoid talking to their female colleagues? Should we all socialise in same sex groups?

Agh... why am I even talking to this loon? She's so demented even Daftpunk and I are on the same (or similar) page here. Weird.

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:17

Sno...I think you made your point without using words like "freak" and "demented" and "backwards" and "weird"

Just sayin' Hmm

Snobear4000 · 14/09/2010 21:24

I'll try not to hold my feelings back next time :)

But am I wrong? Is it normal, at all, to think that men should not speak to women? No, it's not. It's fucking weird and it's not on.

I'll keep the expressive words.

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:25

No, it isn't normal, sno and you are not wrong

happy ?

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 21:31

It's a difficult balance, human nature will bring out the jealousy in us.....that's life isn't it.

DinahRod · 14/09/2010 21:31

Anyfucker, what was the scandal? [nosy]

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:33

I am not 100% sure of the details, tbh, DR

I believe two people who were married to someone else hooked up after chatting via MN Shock

some of the real oldes may remember more

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 21:34

what scandal?

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:36

that is all I know

dp...you are an oldie arentcha ?

do you not know anything ?

< waves away fag smoke irritably >

Pan · 14/09/2010 21:38

ah, not a scandal - it was boring and mundane.

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 21:38

I know nooooothing....[manuel]

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:39

well pan, are you going to tell us or are you not ?

Pan · 14/09/2010 21:40

no, nothing to tell.

ZephirineDrouhin · 14/09/2010 21:41

Don't worry about it cleggy. It's an odd thing but you can usually tell within a few posts if it's a man.

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:41

< shrugs >

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 21:42

I've been here 3 yrs and I don't know anything about it....so must have been b4 my time

AnyFucker · 14/09/2010 21:44

yes, before that

way before my time I think

anyway, this thread is giving me the shivers as it is peculiarly humourless, so I am offski x

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 21:44

Not that I give a toss cos I'm shagging 3 M'netters myself...

whomovedmychocolate · 14/09/2010 21:57

FathersQuarterly would be the closest approximation for blokes I believe if you wanted to find a similar blokenet for dads.

This is not an issue for me. I've passed the age for which sex is an issue, so now I'm becoming a hermaphrodite gastropod
