To have an MN name which doesn't show that I'm a dad not a mum?

I assume that most people's working assumption (if they think about it) would be that posters on MN are mums not dads. Sometimes I feel that it's slightly cheating to have a name which doesn't clarify things, so I always end up trying to make it clear in anything I post that my point of view is that of a 46 year old bloke not a 23 year old woman.

OP posts:

(character from Battlestar Galactica)

nowherewoman · 13/09/2010 19:39

I think I've made myself clear Grin

catinthehat2 · 13/09/2010 19:43

what was that faint noise? Confused

ruddynorah · 13/09/2010 19:46

i really am called norah, and i am ruddy of cheek.

nearlytoolate · 13/09/2010 20:01

I was once so convinced a poster was a woman that even when he let slip a reference to a female dp i assumed he was a lesbian - just didn't occur to me that it was a man...only on mumsnet eh?
To be fair i think he was half-trying to conceal his gender...lots of posts where it would have been more natural to refer to a partner's gender and didn't...

Kara Thrace is a bit of a let down when she is not being Kara Thrace. Ruined my lesbo fantasy she did in just the same way that seeing Spike from Buffy being interviewed smothered my fanny flames

AnnaAlHaqq · 13/09/2010 21:04

That actually was Nick Clegg BTW taps nose

AnnaAlHaqq · 13/09/2010 21:05

huh? that wasnt meant to be in bold. Bloody stupid board software

onepieceoflollipop · 13/09/2010 21:09

If you are not sure if someone is a man or a woman then have a quick scan of the mooncup advice threads. Shock

if they are not on there then this helps to build a picture. (although iirc jasonthunderpants once posted accidentally on a tampax thread) Grin

tbh I don't care if I am talking to a mum or a dad. It's only trolls that bother me.

Snobear4000 · 13/09/2010 22:10

I am not a bear, my ears are not snobby and I am a damn sight younger than 4000. I am a man though and happy to report that most MNers do not react as if I've walked into the ladies change room with a camera phone when they find out.

Most of them.

TiggyD · 13/09/2010 23:53

I'm a man.

Although as I work in a virtually all female profession, have long hair, have a girl's nickname and fancy men, it could be fairly easy to get it wrong.

NoahAndTheWhale · 13/09/2010 23:56

I am not actually called Noah

Monty100 · 13/09/2010 23:56

Numbers are cool. Sadly 27 is not my age, but it is a number that I will remember, and Monty was already taken so I added the 27.

MollysChambers · 13/09/2010 23:57

But do you have a whale?

Monty100 · 13/09/2010 23:58

Molly - do you like Thin Lizzy? Grin

MollysChambers · 13/09/2010 23:59

Thin Lizzy? Nope. Guess again...

Monty100 · 14/09/2010 00:02

You're a Barrister?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/09/2010 00:03

I think Molly'sChambers gonna change your mind about that Monty.

TiggyD · 14/09/2010 00:03

@Monty27 - You never forget your first prison number, eh?

zazen · 14/09/2010 00:04

Are you the whale then Wink

I wonder about this thread.. It's a bit look at me don't you think?

Are there not boards for blokes though on this Hinternet jobbie....

I sometimes wonder why blokes post on Mumsnet..

Monty100 · 14/09/2010 00:05

Elephant - spill the beans then. Grin

Tiggy - How did you guess? Grin

MollysChambers · 14/09/2010 00:08

Hands off. He's mine!

Pan · 14/09/2010 00:12

I am really a Greek deity.....with the sexual proclivities of a goat.

I tried the "i am really a bloke" thing, but with a bit of sensitivity about where and how you post it doesn't really matter, for most folks on here.

TiggyD · 14/09/2010 00:14

I came on this site because I'm a nursery Nurse and wanted to hear what stuff my customers are talking about. And to give a nursery workers view of things.
