AIBU to wish people would say 'mischievous' rather than 'mischievious'?

And to wish that people would notice the difference between prostate and prostrate?

Too much time on my hands on a Sunday morning...

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 12/09/2010 13:59

i wish i was as perfect as you op.unfortunately I'm too busy enjoying lifeGrin
yabu.you say it doesnt count if a person is dyslexic, how do you know?do you slag them off first or should they start each post with 'excuse my dyslexia'?

Claw3 · 12/09/2010 14:00

Not much of a pedant thread, when a Nemesis has to notice an obvious mistake.

With the exception of Becauseimworthit, who had to sit on her hands, you guys are wannabe's!

ozmetric · 12/09/2010 14:47

Most people are pedantic about something. Some people are fussy about fashion, or food, or customer service. Why not be fussy about the use of language?

ozmetric · 12/09/2010 14:48

(and no, I don't always get it right, but if someone pointed out a mistake I'd be happy to learn what was correct :))

skidoodly · 12/09/2010 14:53

Why do pendents always do that fake "oh, I just can't help being a pendent" as though they are ashamed of it, when clearly they think pendents are better than everyone else?

BecauseImWorthIt · 12/09/2010 15:09

I've no idea, skidoodly.

But I'm not ashamed of being a pedant. Except I know that it offends people.

thefruitwhisperer · 12/09/2010 15:12

The one that always makes me fume?

Arks instead of Ask

epicfail · 12/09/2010 15:15

There is no apostrophe in 'wannabes' Claw.

skidoodly · 12/09/2010 15:27

Pendents don't offend me. They are just knobs who think their rigid application of rules they don't understand is some kind of higher calling.

RandyRussian · 12/09/2010 15:30

One of the worst for me is when people say "would of" instead of "would have"
Never sure if it's laziness or illiteracy.

Claw3 · 12/09/2010 15:32

You are living up to your name then Epicfail, as you have not failed totally in pointing out my mistake.

I shall cross you off of my list of wannabes.

Claw3 · 12/09/2010 15:41

Anyone who is "overly concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of his learning" it is so tedious.

MrsC2010 · 12/09/2010 15:45

YADNBU

ozmetric · 12/09/2010 16:09

What about someone "overly concerned with informalism and imprecision, or who makes a show of his lack of learning"?

VoldemortsNipple · 12/09/2010 16:10

YABU I find it really hard to differentiate between subtle sounds.

I thorght I was just a bad speller until DS was assessed for dyslexia. One of his problems is auditory processing, where he doesnt hear the difference between subtle sounds. So I guess Im the same.

I was never that bothered at being a bad speller. Since using mumsnet I am very conscious of it. Sometimes people on here point out my mistakes in a nice way but other times people have been plain nasty.

Claw3 · 12/09/2010 16:12

Ozmetric, I dont get it, unless you are a teacher dealing with students, what do you stand to gain, other than a sense of smugness?

MisterW · 12/09/2010 16:26

"Espresso" not "expresso"!!!

"From" not "of off"!!!

MrsMadWriggle · 12/09/2010 16:34

There are quite often pedant threads of this type on MN, so I don't see why the OP is getting singled out on this particular one for abuse. OP - you'll probably find a warmer welcome in Pedants' Corner.

nannyn · 12/09/2010 16:36

Ordered an espresso yesterday and got a blank look off the young lad at the till, repeated myself then the light bulb went on! 'Oh EXpresso!' Didn't have the energy to explain just needed the caffine.

I can't spell for toffee but using the wrong names for things really bugs me!

Claw3 · 12/09/2010 16:41

The OP is not being singled out, a couple of people have differing opinions, that is what you get on AIBU.

senua · 12/09/2010 17:39

Claw3: I noticed your pedant/pendant mistyping and thought that you were trying to be amusing. Obviously not.Hmm
However, it neatly proves just how misleading poor typing/spelling/grammar can be.

usualsuspect · 12/09/2010 17:42

Pedants Corner is that way >>>>>>>>>>>

ChippingIn · 12/09/2010 17:46

Olifin - there is a whole board for you and your anal friends to play on - do us a favour - go and use it!

Many of our lovely posters have learning difficulties and some of us just type too quickly & make mistakes... so what?

Right now my keyboard is playing up and missing out lots of letters - my posts probably look terrible - but I don't care, people can understand what I mean.

People like you, put people off posting and it's piss poor of you to be honest.

-->>>>>>> Pedants corner---->>>>>>>

skidoodly · 12/09/2010 17:50

Being proud of being a pendent is like being proud of being opnionated, it just demonstrates that you don't know what the word means.

Which is particularly ironic in the case of pendents.

SkylineDrifter · 12/09/2010 17:51

What's a pendent?
