to be disappointed in some posters' nicknames?

There seems to be many nicknames in the style of:

samntomsmumma

mamato2girlies

masonsmummy.

Are people really happy to define themselves like this?

Where is their strong, independent self-image?

There are so many witty, clever or unfathomable names on here - couldn't these posters have taken the lead from them and picked something less needy?

I know this is a parenting website, but I was drawn into here by an image of strong, independent, intelligent posters and I really feel some are letting the side down. It's not some HunnyForum you know.

mine was a haloween namechange that stuck.

currently 'pop' because i popped on saturday (and a baby came out)

i thought you were going to say that some names promise much, but deliver little, OP...

i had also considered 'TheTellTaleFart' and 'MotherOnTheRueMorgue', or 'ThePendulumAndTheTit'

my first sortie onto a net forum was with a -mummy suffix though. YABU, i haven't changed personality (for better or worse!) with namechanges...

VoldermortsNipple · 21/08/2010 18:29

we're very big HP fans in our house

CaptainKirksNipples · 21/08/2010 19:20

Mine is a line from a film. I'm not very keen on names with numbers in but don't mind the mummy ones

CricketThicket · 21/08/2010 19:34

Right, I'm back - sorry RL life took hold.

I've come to apologise, I don't think I really expected to hurt people's feelings, altough after re-reading the OP I can understand I was harsh, and I was in a rather frustrated mood when I posted.

I think the point I was trying to make was that it irks me in RL when people only define themselves as soandso's mummy rather than anything else and I expected more from a website such as this.

I guess the benefit in RL is you have the opportunity to get to know the whole person whereas on a forum, we only have the username to work from and therfore it's difficult to glean more about the poster from those few letters that are our point of contact with individuals.

I really apologise for my inarticulate-ness (if that's a word) in trying to explain my point.

And I'm really sorry to those whose feelings I've hurt with my thoughtlessness.

Mine is what someone once said to me. I don't mind what people call themselves but I do love the witty ones.

nevergoogle · 21/08/2010 19:40

it can be a curse sometimes when your name 'defines' you. but it's also nice when people remember you (especially when they've actually read what you've said).
I've had loads of names, but always come back to this or nevergoogledragonbutter.

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 21/08/2010 19:46

Your name is a curse NG. DH has never been the same since he googled dragon butter. Grin

NOTHEROLDIE · 21/08/2010 19:53

Phew!

I thought there might be some nasty comments about using BIG SHOUTY CAPITALS in your name trying to make you look more important. It actually shows plain stupidity by hitting the caps lock button without realising. Grin

I wanted to be a 'mummy' name. But I just used the one I had from another chat thingy.
You should be proud to be a mum/mummy. I was know as DS1mum for years and no one calls me by my name.

VoldermortsNipple · 21/08/2010 19:58

I was very tempted then porride. Now I dont whether Im more curious.

Don't say you weren't warned VN.

You will NEVER feel unsullied again.

BusyMissIzzy · 21/08/2010 20:11

I feel bad mentioning this VoldermortsNipple, and you may be aware or you may not care anyway, and I know it's bad form to call people up on their spelling, but... it's spelled "Voldemort". 'I'm not criticising, just letting you know. Feel free to ignore me if you wish Blush

nevergoogle · 21/08/2010 20:12

yeah, sorry bout that.
it's a long story.
i stick to nevergoogle these days, i find most threads get a bit hijacked by the curious googlers.
serves you right mind you. it's not like you don't get warned.

Don't worry, tis not like your name says youmustgoogledragonbutter, if they can't resist it is their fault Grin

nevergoogle · 21/08/2010 20:19

that's interesting sAf.
we went bowling with the kids today and just put mum and dad into the computer. it felt really weird to not use our own names.
we still half expect some grown ups to show up and take charge.

mummyloveslucy · 21/08/2010 20:22

I'm a bit disapointed in my own after seing some of the others. When I joined up years ago, I just thought of something quickly and I've just kept it. If I change it people won't know who I am. Wink

anyabanya · 21/08/2010 20:23

Good on you Cricket. Takes a decent person to apologise.

FWIW, my name came about when I needed to name change (my original nn was also named after the dog) and i could not think of anything. Named myself after the checkout girl down the co-op.
