Whilst shopping yesterday in a well known DIY store with DD 8, we walked along the paint aisle and suddenly dd started to cry/whimper and held onto her shoulder. Sticking out of the framework was a metal shelf painted black with a clear plastic tub (where the brochures are held for paint).

This being empty and also clear DD did not see it and walked straight into it hurting her shoulder, I spoke to a member of staff who told me to speak to Customer Services on the way out whih I did and she said they would remove it. I didnt get them to put it in the accident book (totally forgot) but did take a photo.

I also sent a standard email via the Contact us page on their website.

Am I being unreasonable to think they could of called to see how DD was? It could of seriously hurt her and any other child.

Sorry to rant but more than annoyd.

FionaSH · 11/08/2010 12:40

I have very much enjoyed this thread over my lunchtime coffee and biscuit - until I snorted with laughter so hard that biscuit flew up my nose, which is now quite sore. Should I being suing the OP, or all the subsequent posters?

Morloth · 11/08/2010 12:41

Do vipers nest?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/08/2010 12:49

Am now off to first available DIY store and will tell the staff that my child has injured himself on some invisible shelves that no one can see cause they are invisible and them sue the arse off them . We haven't had a holiday in years so this could be the answer to my prayers. Thanks OP for a fab cash generating idea!! Who would have thought it eh invisible shelves ...whatever next?

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 11/08/2010 13:28

What a wonderful thread! I may never need to work again. My DS is always falling over and walking into things particularly when he's running and not looking where he's going. On some of those occasions he's even had a red mark Shock. I took this to be a normal part of life, clearly I was wrong! I will now divert my energies into making a photo record of his red marks so that I can sue the owners of any premises where the injury is sustained.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 11/08/2010 13:33

OP definitely Fiona! She'll have enough cash after suing "A well known DIY store"

I'm currently unsure Morloth, I shall find out :o

cupcakesandbunting · 11/08/2010 20:32

Best thread ever Grin

prozacfairy · 11/08/2010 20:43

They wont ring you.

There is a reason that where I work in a department store, we are told that if someone say trips and falls to rush over and check on them and help where we can but under no circumstances apologise to them. My doing so they would admit liability. W hich means the person could sue them successfully.

That said they should have recorded it in their accident book, to cover their own backs if anything. They could get into alot of trouble by not. If it had been me I would have kicked up a fuss until I was sure what had caused the accident had been removed from the shop floor. You know if I really wanted to be sure it wouldn't happen again.

scurryfunge · 11/08/2010 20:45

I accidently cut my own head off in the chainsaw aisle at B and Q once and was more than happy with receiving a £25 voucher for my trouble.

cupcakesandbunting · 11/08/2010 20:47

OP didn't ever come back.

I've got a feeling that this thread might come back to bite us on the arses in the form of a Claims Direct lawsuit for causing of stress to OP.

See you all in the dock!

scurryfunge · 11/08/2010 20:50

I think the OP realised she was being a tit.

TheLadyEvenstar · 11/08/2010 21:26

"We the members of MN are innocent because we were all suffering from PMS at the time of our replies to the OP who was telling us about the shelf/bracket covered in a COI which juimped out and attacked her DD, however her DD could not indentify the shelf/bracket in a line up held by us the above mentioned"

LittleMissHissyFit · 11/08/2010 23:05

Am not even hormonal, just a grumpy Caah..

But bless the OP, best laugh in ages...

I particularly loved the Shoulda gone to Specsavers.... Grin

YABU to expect them to phone you. If you were that concerned you should have asked them to to get the first aid person ( all stores should have one) to have a look at your DD and put it in thier acciedent book.

hmc · 11/08/2010 23:37

Oh fgs some wanky remarks on this thread [thud]. Didn't read it all - some of it too juvenile.

To OP only: You are being a little OTT imho expecting them to phone you to follow up how your daughter is , but I do 'get' that you think this is a potential hazard and perhaps you want to be reassured that they are taking this seriously / will take preventative action?

.....in which case, why not write a short formal letter of complaint. The Store probably has a complaints procedure and at least this way, one of the managers / supervisors will be required to consider the health and safety aspects...

Lol!

LetThereBeRock · 12/08/2010 13:31

They did say they'd take preventative action. They said they'd remove the shelf.
