Whilst shopping yesterday in a well known DIY store with DD 8, we walked along the paint aisle and suddenly dd started to cry/whimper and held onto her shoulder. Sticking out of the framework was a metal shelf painted black with a clear plastic tub (where the brochures are held for paint).

This being empty and also clear DD did not see it and walked straight into it hurting her shoulder, I spoke to a member of staff who told me to speak to Customer Services on the way out whih I did and she said they would remove it. I didnt get them to put it in the accident book (totally forgot) but did take a photo.

I also sent a standard email via the Contact us page on their website.

Am I being unreasonable to think they could of called to see how DD was? It could of seriously hurt her and any other child.

Sorry to rant but more than annoyd.

Do you know though, Tesco have called me at home in response to complaints within hours of me sending them. They were just complaints about crapness, not injuries though and I found them quite irritating but there you go - some companies do ring so the OP was perhaps using that as her frame of reference.
OP, you are being a little over the top but I am sure it's just how many of us react when something hurts our child. FGS, I've wanted to kick mean children in passing when they're mean to my DD, not just bad mouth a DIY chain.Don't take people to heart and let it upset you, people will disagree in AIBU Smile

proseccogirl · 10/08/2010 22:29

Photo taking + righteous indignation = contemplation of largely spurious personal injury claim on behalf of your daughter. Clearly that is what you are REALLY thinking about here. You daughter is fine - kids bang themselves all the time. Its just that you think you might get a holiday or a new car out of this particular minor, temporary and insignificant injury! There is such a thing as an accident you know, it doesn't have to be anyone's fault, and you don't deserve to be compensated for it!

LetThereBeRock · 10/08/2010 22:29

The shelf didn't fall on her.She walked into it. It's not at all equivalent to a heavy trolley falling on Carmen's dd.

bruxeur · 10/08/2010 22:29

Quite, quite mad.

cupcakesandbunting · 10/08/2010 22:30

Oh and Carmen; trolley falling on DD/DD getting scratch on shoulder from walking into badly painted shelf = not the same.

My DS walked into one of those cage thingies that they decant stock from when we were in Waitrose last week. I don't want compo because it sounds awful, but do you think had I made the right noises, they might have shut me up with a month's worth of shopping?

LetThereBeRock · 10/08/2010 22:31

As the Black Knight once said... 'It's just a flesh wound'.

LetThereBeRock · 10/08/2010 22:32

And it's hardly going to happen again is it if they're going to remove the shelf?

sunny71 · 10/08/2010 22:32

bruxeur, are you so nasty to everyone?

OP posts:
chaostrulyreigns · 10/08/2010 22:33

Nasty???

Your perceptions are very skewed sunny71.

cupcakesandbunting · 10/08/2010 22:35

Sunny, I don't want it to look like I'm bullying you, I hate posters being rounded up on, but you've said ruder things than Bruxeur, like accusing those of us who don't make a drama out of a minor injury of not caring and being shit mothers. That's pretty nasty. Just a thought.

LucyLouLou · 10/08/2010 22:36

Sunny, I understand you're upset, but people are not being nasty, they are laughing at the absurdity of this situation. Not the same thing. No one finds it funny your DD got hurt btw, you've just had a bit of an extreme reaction.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 10/08/2010 22:37

Oh Bruxeur you have really made me giggle!!! Sunny FFS get a grip!

bruxeur · 10/08/2010 22:38

"Im guessing most people are not that bothered when their child gets hurt, but I am."

Let me help you here, OP.

Firstly, you cant punctuat'e. This is just lazy.

Secondly, this sentence is probably the nastiest thing posted on this thread, and guess what - it was by you! And it was completely unprovoked!

LetThereBeRock · 10/08/2010 22:40

She's funny not nasty.

Myleetlepony · 10/08/2010 22:40

Children walk into things all the time. I don't think it's a big enough deal for you to expect them to be contacting you.

LetThereBeRock · 10/08/2010 22:42

Well that was certainly funny.Grin

As Lucyloulou said no one is laughing because your dd was hurt.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 10/08/2010 22:42

PMSL at this thread. Am slightly shamed to be doing so, but all the same ... Grin

Sunny, relax. I know it's nasty when your children have a minor accident, but that's all it was, a bump. She's fine, you're fine, and if you have any sense of proportion you'll realise that expecting a follow-up call because your DD bumped into a shelf is inappropriate.

Unless it really is the compensation you're after...?

BabyDubsEverywhere · 10/08/2010 22:48

You took a photo of an invisible shelf??? Haha

SkiHorseWonAWean · 10/08/2010 22:50

Are you mental?

If you're so bloody precious what on earth were you doing taking her to a shop containing genuinely dangerous equipment as opposed to e.g., shelves.

FGS get a bloody life.

PueriSimilisCanis · 10/08/2010 22:54

didn't get the accident book filled in

tut tut tut

lol at boxing helena and DIYCON3

Tippychoocks · 10/08/2010 22:55

Bunch of meanies Smile I bet you all work for Homebase. The new anti-litigation ridicule squad Grin.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 10/08/2010 22:55

I've walked into one of them on more then one occasion...If I bothered looking where I was going it wouldn't happen

Same as your DD

I've mentioned it once at the till because it was bloody sharp and scratched me -there was 1Drop Blood n everything...would I expect a phonecall?

Course I bloody wouldnt!

bulby · 10/08/2010 22:56

Peoples replies to the op have restored my faith in the countries sanity. If I complained every time my daughter walked into something I'd never even get to the end of my own drive way!

cupcakesandbunting · 10/08/2010 22:57

Accident books are such a shite idea. Only an utter pleb would write an entry in one about a minor injury and if you really hurt yourself, I would imagine that you'd be otherwise engaged getting yourself to a+e to write a blithering entry in an accident book.

Incidentally, I was appointed first aider in our office years ago. The accident book had one entry; "A lightbulb fell out of the light and landed on P. Coombes head. Did not cut but P. Coombes felt dizzy."

Of course she did.
