So DS1 turns 3 in just over a month. At his request, we are having his nursery friends invited to this one, having just done close family until now.

Before actually hosting a party, I have always been firmly against the whole party bag concept - when I was a child, you got a piece of cake and a balloon and off you went. Am planning to do the same for DS party.

AIBU? Is the party bag thing so mainstream now that it will look realy odd not to do it?

It's a personal choice, do what you feel is best for you and don't spend more than you're comfortable with.

Yes, too many Sweets is the worst thing in a party bag, that and rubbish things that stay on the floor of the car for weeks

just mean not to do party bags. Taking turns in winning is stupid but i think its fair with pass the pascle for everyone to get to unwrap a layer

Well I've read this thread and I'm still not doing them when the time comes. Checked this out with my 7yo niece who said most people do them but she wouldn't mind if she went to a party and didn't get one.

I love party pags.

I love doing them because I like my children's friends and I enjoy putting together a little bag of fun things that I know they will enjoy. We are not quite in Gwenner's league (hand painted ornaments and handmade soap Shock [awe]) but we don't put in plastic crap and harribo either. Just little bits that tie in with the theme of the party. Also, my children LOVE giving them out. They are as excited about that bit as every other part of their birthday.

And I love my children recieving them because it is the perfect incentive to leave the party calmly, politely thanking the host. It keeps them quiet in the car. And it makes me chuckle the way they always rush to the low bench in our hall when we get home and stand side by side solemnly examining everything in the bag. They love them.

We have only once got a bag of plastic tatt that broke and ended up in the bin. The kids were just as thrilled with that one as all the others of course.
