OMG. My mother is on mumsnet? Fuck.

I think a white ribbed vest on a small boy, with jeans and All Stars, is adorable. Even better when accessorized with some kind of sparkly belt

In fact I'm going to change DS into that outfit right now. That'll be us at the park. Oh and he'll have a dummy too. And I'm sure I'll be doing something very gauche as well. Come say hi!

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/07/2010 14:00

Boy vest t shirts look fab

Esp on boys with longer middle class hair

MrsBadger · 29/07/2010 14:06

I despair over how to dress boys nicely when it's really hot

no sundresses, no vests

what do you suggest, Alaska?

southeastastra · 29/07/2010 14:08

a boys boob tube probably

brimfull · 29/07/2010 14:09

god ds eyes up vest t-shirts in H&M with yearning looks
he doesn't even ask anymore

his football shirts ar bad enough

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/07/2010 14:11

OOh football shirts, with the kid's name on the back.

My dd has two of them. One of them is for Bradford City so is a frightful burgundy/orange stripe. Thankfully she is at teenage stage so only wears them when at football practice. She used to wear them to go for a walk and I hated it.

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2010 14:12

I don't see what's wrong with the vests but I will admit to hating seeing children with cropped hair with a pattern shaved into it. Not because it looks 'common' but it does make them look as though they've just been released from HMP Barlinnie.

ChippingIn · 29/07/2010 14:14

Alaska - they are vests - garments to be worn under outer garments, not as an outer garmet - it's like going out in just your bra - wrong.

LadyWellian · 29/07/2010 14:14

I think the OP must be right. I've just checked the Boden website and all their boys' t-shirts have sleeves, so it's obviously not acceptable for middle-class boys to wear vests.

izzybiz · 29/07/2010 14:18

My Ds (22 months) has some sleeveless t-shirts, he wears them with baggy shorts and birkenstocks or skate style trainers.
He does not have his ear pierced and he has long hair.

Things you will never see either of my LO's wearing Dd or Ds- Football shirts or track suits!

ChippingIn · 29/07/2010 14:24

Mrsbadger - how about loose fitting cotton shirts (no fuss, no iron kind of course!!) or normal t-shirts? No top at all also works for me with little kids when it's hot (boys and girls)...

...with sunscreen of course.... before anyone starts.

izzybiz - get back to us when DS (or DD) is 18 and let us know how that went

Where did you get DS's sleeveless t-shirts from? I just want to have a look at some and can only find 'vests' not nice sleeveless t-shirts.

Poshpaws · 29/07/2010 14:25

Must admit that I have always hated vest tops. My DNephews (whom I love) wear them a lot, as well as football shirts (note: they do have other clothes too)

I have 3 DSs and none of them have vests or football shirts. Even DS1 refused to wear a donated vest top when he was about 3, so that went to charity. And DSis knows how much I hate them.

Then again, I hate vest tops and sports gear on grown men as well.

AlaskaNebraska · 29/07/2010 14:25

BABIES int ehm?
ew with skate trainers?
omg

OP posts:
izzybiz · 29/07/2010 14:29

Sleeveless T-shirts are from H&M, plain colours, cotton.
His little trainers are from Nextthis style

Not 'ew' at all thanks!
Also I have a 17 Yo Ds as well, no football shirts or tracksuits there either!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/07/2010 14:32

Vests on little girls are nice, although I hate to see little girls in spaghetti straps, grim.

Vests on boys are awful, awful, awful.

Eleison · 29/07/2010 14:32

Ttracksuit trousers are brilliant. Lighter and more flexible than most trousers, no cargo-style pockets, or zips, or buttons to press into the leg when stunts or once sort or another are being performed (i.e. always). Sports style clothing is brilliant for active DSs, chavvy or not.

takingtheplunge · 29/07/2010 14:34

what a bunch of terrible snobs you all are. What on God's earth is wrong with a vest top?

Eleison · 29/07/2010 14:34

That should be 'stunts of one sort or another'

izzybiz · 29/07/2010 14:38

Ds has soft jogging style bottoms, but they are plain grey ones from GAP, I wouldn't want him wearing the branded sports ones, like tracksuits as I do think they look a bit naff!

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/07/2010 14:41

"what a bunch of terrible snobs you all are"

Yeah.

What's your point?

SixtyFootDoll · 29/07/2010 14:42

My DS2 ( aged7)wears vests he is quite skinny with blond curls, he wears tehm with knee lenght shorts and looks lovley in them.
DS1 is chunkier and vests on him dont look so good.
At least its a change from the de riguer Boden boredom.
