To be feel a little bit annoyed when they ask me if I want milk with my Americano?

Um, obviously not, hence why I've specified an "Americano". I know whose fault it is - people asking for one and then asking for "a bit of milk" as well

Well some people like black coffee with just a splash of milk ,instead of frothy coffee .I always offer milk at the cafe where I work

thisisyesterday · 22/07/2010 19:57

NO! you are not being unreasonable. it really irritates me

people who want a white coffee need to ask for a white coffee

still, it makes it easier to identify those coffee places where they know what they're doing doesn't it?

and don't even get me started on "paninis"! which i know are a different matter entirely, but often served in places where they ask if you want milk in your americano

stainesmassif · 22/07/2010 20:05

ime it's the only way to get a good coffee with cold milk. otherwise it's a latte in a cup. so sorry, said, it's people like me that are winding you up!

goldenticket · 22/07/2010 20:07

That's my experience too stainesmassif, so an Americano with cold milk is what I ask for. I am that people could honestly feel annoyed about that!

deaddei · 22/07/2010 20:09

I shall add my support for asking for milk with mine- tho I prefer warm.

BertieBasset · 22/07/2010 20:11

What's wrong with paninis?

I always have a skinny latte btw

MrsJamin · 22/07/2010 20:15

Yeuch to all your latte's - so milky you can't taste any coffee. Cappucino's mostly milk froth too. The best one to have is a Flat White - it actually tastes of coffee. Many coffee shops still don't train their baristas properly and they get made as Cappucinos though. I am turning into a right coffee snob as we have one of the best coffee shops in the UK round the corner (an independent).

AlaskaNebraska · 22/07/2010 20:16

pannini is a plural already

MayorNaze · 22/07/2010 20:18

i drink americano with milk

sorry

BertieBasset · 22/07/2010 20:21

mrsjammin you are completely correct, I don't really like coffee but have a latte if I'm trying to be a bit cosmopolitan and don't want to walk around with a pot of tea

Thank you for the pannini explanation. I never knew that!

thisisyesterday · 22/07/2010 20:21

surely you want a flat white? even costa sell those now

and yes. panini is plural
one panini is a panino

sapphireblue · 22/07/2010 20:21

I guess a lot of people who order an Americano don't actually know what it is tbh. I used to work in a coffee shop many moons ago and so many people (usually older generation) would ask for an Espresso, have it put in front of them and say "ooo no I didn't want that...."

LadyBiscuit · 22/07/2010 20:23

it's hardly a big deal is it?

thisisyesterday · 22/07/2010 20:25

no, which is presumably why the op is a "little bit annoyed" rather than outraged and demanding an ANSWER!

ClimberChick · 22/07/2010 20:29

YANBU this annoys me as well

QueeferSutherland · 22/07/2010 20:31

Not as annoying as people ordering a cappuccino after 11am.

ChippingIn · 22/07/2010 20:31

I don't really get why it annoys you? Surely it's just like people asking for fries and ketchup? or a Fresh Fruit Salad and yogurt? It's just getting a drink the way you like to drink it??

fairycake123 · 22/07/2010 20:34

God, I TOTALLY feel your pain. It truly is a terrible, terrible world we live in, isn't it? Still, suicide is still an option if it simply becomes too much to bear, I guess.

LadyBiscuit · 22/07/2010 20:35

People who order really complicated coffees which take 15 mins to make are far more annoying. I can't figure out how that's more painful that saying 'black please'

fairycake123 · 22/07/2010 20:36

If editing were an option, I'd ETA that offering milk with an Americano is arguably not as stupid as not knowing how to use the word "hence" in a sentence.

singsinthebath · 22/07/2010 20:37

So is there anyone here who actually admits to going into a shop and asking for a "panino"?

Supercherry · 22/07/2010 20:39

YABU, my mum likes to control exactly how much milk goes in her coffee so she has an Americano and a little jug of milk. Nowt wrong with that as far as I can see.

BettyisNOTBlu · 22/07/2010 20:57

YABU. It's pretty clear that the names of coffees here really don't have much relation to the ur-version. Unless Starbucks have started serving cappucino in pretty small cups, that taste of actual coffee, at an immediately drinkable temperature?

blametheparents · 22/07/2010 20:58

Can I have a cup of tea please?

LaTrucha · 22/07/2010 21:02

I find it infuriating that I have to ask for an Americano and not a black coffee, TBH. Who decided a black coffee was called that? It's a very recent thing here.
