been having lessons for months now and decided to get one put in at home!

its amazing for fitness and so much fun, i have really toned up since doing it and i am thinking of possibly teaching it from home if i get good enough. and dp enjoys watching me practise although i reckon the novelty will probably wear off soon

my mum did a bit of a "cats bums mouth" when she first saw it though and dp darent even tell his mum i have got one! haha

Well, it's your house, so up to you really. Personally, I wouldn't want one in my living room.

paisleyleaf · 17/07/2010 18:11

It'd embarrass me to visit.

Who was it had that pic up on their profile, all upside down and legs splayed?

Yes, yes, well done, you are very empowered and free thinking.

tethersend · 17/07/2010 18:16

You should have installed it from the bedroom to the living room to save time coming downstairs on busy mornings.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 17/07/2010 18:18

Oh, I can see the appeal of a firemans pole. I could descend to make breakfast while pretending I was entering the batcave

GeekOfTheWeek · 17/07/2010 18:19

Up to you and your dh really.

If i saw one in someones front room I would just presume they had no taste or were attention seeking. Probably both tbh.

What wrong with keeping it in your bedroom? You could even put mirrors all around it then.

AnyFucker · 17/07/2010 18:21

well, tbh, all power to you and all that jazz

but I would think you a person with very poor taste if I saw that

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 17/07/2010 18:22

Odd that it is in living room - or is that the only place it will fit. I mean, how would you feel if your DH decided he would like a rowing machine or cross trainer in teh living room.....

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 17/07/2010 18:22

There is a guitar and amp permanently displayed in my living room

Hassled · 17/07/2010 18:23

It will be a good Christmas focus point for the room - I'm thinking fairy lights, some tinsel, then more lights.

OR - you can erect a tent around the pole. That might come in handy some day.

Bobbalina · 17/07/2010 18:23

Think your house may be taken for a house of ill repute but each to her own

Quality · 17/07/2010 18:25

What is the point of having a firemans pole if you have no firemen to go down it?

Pancakeflipper · 17/07/2010 18:26

if it blocks his view from the TV, the pole will be gone in a few weeks.

Is it abit naff to have one in ones lounge? Off to look in Homes & Gardens for pole ettiquette

AnyFucker · 17/07/2010 18:29

good point, quality !

HeywoodJablome · 17/07/2010 18:29

Fireman's pole.

[snigger]

Pancakeflipper · 17/07/2010 18:30

Get 2 poles - hang some rope between them and you have a fabby indoors clothes line.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 17/07/2010 18:32

A friend of mine had one in her dorm room at uni. I always thought it looked like an acro holding the ceiling up. There is a real chance that guests will think you're having renovation work done, OP.

HotSprocket · 17/07/2010 18:32

Disguise it as a maypole

Bobbalina · 17/07/2010 18:32

Is this another Blyton thread by any chance?

NomDePlume · 17/07/2010 18:40

naffo

tacky

put in the living room for shock value.

LittleSilver · 17/07/2010 18:43

I'd think it naff.

Attention seeking.

Rather silly.

Oooh, and ugly.

But hey, each to their own.

Well, since you're asking...

The whole poledancing thing seems to me to be part of the whole women-buying-into-men's-objectification-of-them. You know, playboy merchandise, huge fake breasts, stripper fashion, etc. Bizarre imo. It's like these women are really going all out to maximise what they see from porn/stripper/lads mag culture as attractive. Usually it's women with limited education and options in life.

Also, I'm sure quite a lot of women who poledance for money dont see it as "fun" or "amazing for fitness". Do your children see you do it?

If I saw one somewhere I'd just think it was tacky, and that they weren't smart enough to have thought it through.

That's just my opinion. Bit humourless tonight, I'm afraid.

tethersend · 17/07/2010 19:46

Coat it with sandpaper and give the cat something to sharpen its claws on.

Might chafe a bit, though.
