Hello and welcome. We are a bunch of people (mainly women) trying to give up alcohol. No judgement, just honest support and kindness
The original thread was started by @drybird2020 in 2020 and we have plenty of veterans who can offer advice and signposting.

We don't encourage moderation purely as it can be triggering for some to read.

I'm Wendy and I'll be the captain of the ship for the next two months or so.
I gave up drinking in January 2022.

Ooh@NextPhaseOfLife are you singing hymns per chance?

I'd give it a full blast of 'Lord of the dance'

Funny fact I was on deaths door nine years ago with pneumonia. Twelve days in the hospital including resus (I didn't see the light). My lungs were scarred. However since giving up the booze and this new treatment I can sing again.

This is the one we have. It works very well.

We previously had a cheap version and it broke after a year.

I have the Hotel Chocolat one. I love it, but I don't find it gets the milk hot enough (I like hot drinks to be very hot), so I give it 30 seconds in the microwave when it's ready.

@WendyWagon Yes, Bunty! She was great. A very beautiful actress too. I'm sorry about your allergic reaction, that must have been frightening. I'm allergic to two types of medication, which only came to light when I was put on them intravenously, back in 2020. Much drama and I had to be revived by Drs who were thankfully still doing the ward rounds. Awful. Hope you're mending well. 💝 Your plans for DD's birthday sound great. I'm sure she'll love her ring. I still wear the ring my granny gave me for my 18th birthday. It's not a high-value piece but it is very, very precious to me.

I used to do all my drinking at night @EastCoastDamsel and @ShyMaryEllen . What I used to do was go to bed with my bottles as soon as I got in from work and drink as I read or watched shite online (and/or posted increasingly incoherent nonsense on SM) until I passed out. It's just before bedtime (especially at weekends) when the temptation is strongest. But the sober sleep, clear Fear-free mornings and all the big little things like @ponzusoup describes are all so, so worth keeping AF for.

That Knoops stuff looks amazing, I'd not heard of that before. I may have to check it out. Chocolate milkshake is my comfort of choice after giving up the grog. Not diet friendly but certainly the lesser of two evils.

Strength and love. Keep on keeping on. xx

Here we are my friends. The new thread: The Continuing Support Thread for Anyone Trying to Lead an Alcohol-Free Life Autumn 2024 | Mumsnet. Thank you to Captain @WendyWagon and all who have sailed with us on this one. ❤
I'm afraid Sid's already snaffled the good sofa (though there's plenty of room for you to cuddle up next to him). Feel free to grab your velvetiser (or whatever small, buzzing hand-held thing you have that gives you joy) and pop along to join him.

Strength and love mes amies. xx
