I posted another thread earlier about my disaster of a Christmas Day.

I just can't do it anymore, looking into the future I can see myself losing everything, my DH, friends, family. I was considering taking myself to a&e this morning because I was such a mess.

I'm absolutely determined to do it this time, so this is day 1.

Please join me.

Aw what a lovely post. I hope your DH got on okay? Sorry just saw this.
That's lovely of you to say, it doesn't help that every time I'm around them they say you've done so well marmite but you were a twat when you were drunk. Usually when they're all drunk and twattish 😂. So I'm in week 28 and we went to a party the other week and DH accidentally bought me normal peroni. I had a sip and honestly it was horrid! I've got a festival in a couple of weeks with them and I am pretty nervous about it. So lovely to hear from you. Please let me know how the appointment went.
Unmumsnetty hug back.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/07/2022 22:35

Oh and I think you've done amazing to keep it moderated like that. Much better than me who hasn't learnt how to moderate xx

Haveatakeaway · 07/07/2022 00:00

Thank you so much for keeping the thread going, I missed our chats.
been a horrible dramatic day, I'll update you tomorrow if that's ok as I'm so tired. Dh has massive infection, passed out twice in the docs, ambulance called for sepsis, then cancelled. I was at my own hospital appointment so just had my dad ringing saying emergency. Nightmare. I'll PM you tomorrow if that's ok?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/07/2022 21:22

Sorry just saw this. Yes. Don't worry about replying straightaway but I'd like to know how you are and DH. Yes PM me when u can. I've missed the chats too x

Bizzywater · 24/07/2022 15:14

Anyone about ?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/07/2022 16:53

Hi I'm here @Bizzywater. How are you?

Bizzywater · 24/07/2022 17:25

Hi!
I'm on day 2 and I'm struggling. Which is pathetic. I usually have wine with dinner on Sunday and my god I want one. Listened to sober podcast, been to the gym and it's taking me everything to not go and buy wine

manlyago · 24/07/2022 21:28

@Bizzywater just a message of support here. It’s hard breaking these habits. Stick with it, it gets easier every day. Remind yourself why you’re doing it and how good you’ll feel tomorrow if you stay AF. ❤️

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2022 06:37

Hi Bizzywater. What @manlyago said. Would you like to share anything more or not? You can do this? Remember your reasons for doing it and that you've come back.

Bizzywater · 25/07/2022 09:07

Yeah and this time it will be the last time @teaandtoastwithmarmite
Discovered some useful podcasts which are helping. Going to the gym. Had af beer last night and some choc biscuits and I made it through.
Thanks to you and @manlyago

Bizzywater · 25/07/2022 09:08

Also I need to learn how to turn on notifications for this 😂

manlyago · 25/07/2022 09:12

Brilliant @Bizzywater well done. I’m 2.5 years AF and have had a few wobbles over that time. It’s brilliant you pushed on through!

Would you mind sharing the podcasts please?

Yes - Sober stories with sober sassy mum.
I tried the Annie grace one but the voice wound me up (I've a short fuse at the mo!)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2022 21:22

😂@Bizzywater well done. You made me laugh with the short fuse comment. I'm so glad you've come back. I'm still off the booze. 30 weeks

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2022 21:23

Wonder if @Haveatakeaway is around

Bizzywater · 26/07/2022 18:44

That's amazing!!! You're doing so well. Have the cravings gone?
I am so bloody grumpy I can't tell you. I'm not sleeping and I could murder a cold glass of white wine. Day 4 nearly done. It feels like a chore and even though I listened to a sober podcast on the way home, all
I could think about was wine....

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/07/2022 19:59

😂 I had a sip a few weeks ago as DH accidentally bought me normal peroni not AF one and it tasted horrible. Got that festival this weekend with his hard drinking family members so we shall see 😅

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/07/2022 20:00

Keep going. It will feel better soon

Bizzywater · 27/07/2022 20:15

Another day almost done. Finding zero alcohol Sauvignon Blanc and huge amounts of bread and chocolate are helping.
Good to know that you are doing well @teaandtoastwithmarmite
Are you feeling confident about the festival?

@Haveatakeaway are you about? Hope you're ok

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/07/2022 20:40

Good one @Bizzywater Glad you're doing well. I am feeling confident. DD 9 is coming now as the family members who was going to have her can't and she will help. She gets judgy and says you're not drinking are you mummy so that will help. Plus it's a different kind of festival now. And actually I'm not bothered.

Haveatakeaway · 28/07/2022 05:00

Hi @Bizzywater ! Thanks so much for asking, i.appreciate it.

sorry I've just skimmed the thread, how have you been? I was wondering about you.

I'm not sober right now, well I am at the minute lol. Looking after my old lab who is unwell but I've just been swapped from the night shift. So tired.

I've been drinking lately and made stupid mistakes, as usual. I'm thankful for @teaandtoastwithmarmite though for keeping the thread going ❤
I'll have a read of the thread fully when I've had some sleep.

have some in-unmumsnetty hugs you two.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/07/2022 13:36

I'm just pleased you all came back 😁

Bizzywater · 28/07/2022 22:21

Today felt much easier but I am still eating like a pig!

You are inspiring me @teaandtoastwithmarmite. I read the sober diaries and I keep thinking of her obstacle course analogy, getting to the good field!

I had a period of not being sober at all @Haveatakeaway but I've started afresh, again. I've been listening to sober podcasts and following lots of sober insta, and I think it's not uncommon to have shorter periods of sobriety before you maintain it longer term.

stoppingnow · 29/07/2022 12:06

Hi, hope it's okay to join in, Im day one after thousands of attempts!!! Sick of feeling bloated , irritable and just don't have a clear head. Any advice to keep me on track, I will have a read over the thread anyway , but just wanted to jump on first to make myself accountable! I'm in the habit of nearly a bottle a wine a night, DH might have one glass out of it, sometimes not!!! Ive just had enough and seemed to have a lot of ibs type symptoms with a while so maybe it has a lot to do with wine, need to have a month break minimum to see if things improve.. thanks x

brightspice · 29/07/2022 12:50

@stoppingnow don't try to be perfect. If you drink when you didn't plan to, learn from it and keep going. Also try to become really conscious when you drink (or when you want to drink). So many people drink out of habit pure and simple so adding consciousness to it makes a huge difference.

And as you've had lots of attempts at giving up, I recommend episode 20 of my podcast 90 Days Later. It's on the topic 'I've tried to give up before'.

Finally commit to WHY you are doing this. Make it really compelling. You may need more than one reason. Keep that reason front of mind in challenging situations. I know you can do it. Because (as the old saying goes) if I can, anyone can.
