I'll start. I work in research. Lone parent. Rent. Minimal savings (think under 1k). I'm an 'emergent service worker' - never heard of this before!

Apparently established middle class which I wouldn't agree with.
Would say we're solidly working class but financially fairly comfortable which I think is what's skewed it.

TokyoSushi · 11/11/2022 12:04

Elite! Ha!

Probably because of the environment I work in rather than who I actually am!

RoachTheHorse · 11/11/2022 12:04

Established middle class

RewildingAmbridge · 11/11/2022 12:04

Technical middle class, including because when I did it when it first came out I was an emergent service worker too!

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/11/2022 12:04

Elite.

Spoiler alert - I’m not elite.

Trisolaris · 11/11/2022 12:04

I’m the Elite. I remember taking this about 5 years ago and I was Precariat so make of that what you will. . .

DialsMavis · 11/11/2022 12:04

Established middle class, did this or something v similar before we bought a house and didnt get that then. We are a bit rough really. I did put listen to hip hop but think dragging DC round museums and the odd art gallery cancelled that out I think.

TeamHerbivore · 11/11/2022 12:05

Established middle class apparently

Enjoy a diverse range of cultural activities
Went to university
Are comfortably off, secure and established

Hmm. I am also an "emergent service worker". Amazing because I am a year off retirement! Emergent pensioner would be closer to the mark.

So, for information, I am working class through and through, I subscribe to "you either own the means of production or not" as my definition and don't believe there is a middle class at all, never mind this New Age bullshit.

ImPickleRickSpartacus · 11/11/2022 12:02

Don't need to take it to know I'm an oik. 🤷‍♀️

I'm sure everyone else on here is an elite but will be falling over themselves to let us know they're really humble about it and drive a banger and have threadbare clothes covered in Labrador hair.

😂

Overthebow · 11/11/2022 12:05

Established middle class. The description fits pretty well to be honest so I agree with it.

FelicityFlops · 11/11/2022 12:06

Elite, about right.

AriettyHomily · 11/11/2022 12:06

Elite 😂😂😂😂😂😂

We live in a small three bed terrace, kids share a room, go to the local comp. Not on the breadline but so very far from elite.

theremustonlybeone · 11/11/2022 12:06

I am ELITE--- laughing out loud over here

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/11/2022 12:07

Technical middle class

lordloveadog · 11/11/2022 12:07

I come out as elite, but really I'm precariat, because all the income is my husband's. I have a series of insecure project-based academic jobs and could not afford a home in the city where we live on my own income, let alone support my children. Analysis which papers over sex-based intra-household inequality and dependency doesn't do women favours.

AriettyHomily · 11/11/2022 12:07

I think elite is probably skewed by house value depending where you live.

Mogloveseggs · 11/11/2022 12:08

Established middle class-haha nope!

Glittertwins · 11/11/2022 12:08

Elite apparently. I didn't go private school, neither of us went to an elite university and we don't have our DCs at private school but we have quite well paid jobs and know some people who are pretty high up at their employers so I suspect that skews things

PuttingDownRoots · 11/11/2022 12:08

Established middle class.

Think it was the museums and classical music.... but I also like metal!

Probably right for me to be honest. Definitely had a MC upbringing. DH had a working class upbringing and describes himself as "working class with a middle class lifestyle".

ChevreChase · 11/11/2022 12:08

I picked hobbies of classical music, stately homes, galleries, arts and crafts. Said my circle are all the professional ones, plus artist.

However because I rent, my income is currently under 25k (single mum plus retraining), and I have 8k in savings, I am the precariat, "this is the poorest and most deprived class group ... working class background, mix with people like yourself". Bit surprised! It must be really weighted towards income and rental/ownership status.

gogohmm · 11/11/2022 12:09

Elite, not surprised as we are definitely privileged compared to many but mostly because I'm middle aged so have more saving, paid off mortgage etc. I've inherited my grandmother's love of opera and she was in service prior to marriage, never sure why liking classical music and opera is considered elite as it's cheaper than many rock gigs!

RewildingAmbridge · 11/11/2022 12:09

So the difference between technical middle class and established middle class is my pension! Didn't include it the first time wasn't reading it properly. Included it the second time and got a different outcome

MargaretThursday · 11/11/2022 12:10

I was interested by people I socialise with. I can name someone in every category other than Chief Executive. Not sure what that says!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 11/11/2022 12:11

That's a load of old nonsense. I'm 'established middle class'. Which is funny seeing as I'm from a Liverpool council estate and my only income is benefits. So it seems my class is decided based on my husband's circumstances rather than my own.
