I'll start. I work in research. Lone parent. Rent. Minimal savings (think under 1k). I'm an 'emergent service worker' - never heard of this before!

I think the calculator was created many years ago and figures have not been updated, hence why so many are reporting elite.

MrsPerfect12 · 11/11/2022 12:23

Elite, that will be based that on knowing high level professionals and ££ which is rubbish.
I'm lower middle class at best as are some of those high level professionals.

alloutofcareunits · 11/11/2022 12:24

Elite! Hilarious, I'm definitely not!

RewildingAmbridge · 11/11/2022 12:24

@Mother Of Crocodiles those things aren't mutually exclusive? Toddler DS' favourite places were the local planetarium and NHM and I didn't stop going to the theatre because I became a mum

PolkaDotMankini · 11/11/2022 12:24

Elite, which is surprising. We live in a very ordinary 3-bed terrace in a deprived area of a not particularly desirable town. DH and I both went to state schools and I did my degree at the OU. We do enjoy cultural activities and socialise with all sorts of people though.

What class are you according to this?
LooksLikeImStuckHere · 11/11/2022 12:25

Elite. We aren’t.

It’s such a stupid quiz. Most houses in my area are over 500k so it’s hardly a determiner.

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 11/11/2022 12:25

Established middle class apparently. No one told my working class parents!

RightsHoarder · 11/11/2022 12:25

Established middle class

KenAdams · 11/11/2022 12:25

Elite, which I'm really not.

hidingmyusername · 11/11/2022 12:27

Technical middle class.

About right.

Whichwhatnow · 11/11/2022 12:29

Elite. Is this because all my friends are 'artists'? And by that I mean buskers and gigging musicians😄

Rowthe · 11/11/2022 12:29

Technical medical class

MandyMotherOfBrian · 11/11/2022 12:29

Elite - yes we’re a high income household but the rating seems to based largely on enjoying cultural activities (theatre, classical music and museums 🫤) and socialising with people from a wide range of jobs. Which I find quite insulting tbh, as if only Elites do those things. We didn’t even go to Uni or Private schools so it wasn’t prejudiced by that. What a load of tosh.

PuppyMonkey · 11/11/2022 12:30

New affluent worker here. But it also says I’m probably young so it’s clearly talking shite.Grin

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 11/11/2022 12:30

Elite

We are very lucky we have a final salary and state pension set up, when I took out the very decent sum we have on deposit with Royal London out of the equation they bumped us down to Middle Class.... Grin Many a slip between the cup and the lip....Grin

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 11/11/2022 12:31

Total tosh by the way.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 11/11/2022 12:33

Traditional Middle Class.

I am pretty boring…

Candymay · 11/11/2022 12:36

Well I never! I’m apparently established middle class. Definitely don’t think I’d be seen as that in real life but I’ll take it for now. Mum and dad would be proud. I’m actually a single parent and have lived a very hard life.

OldTinHat · 11/11/2022 12:38

I'm traditional working class. And proud!

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 11/11/2022 12:39

Established middle class. When I took it a few years ago I was an emergent service worker - what's changed is I bought a house. If our house sale completes this month I'll be 'elite' instead as we'll move up a house value bracket. Interesting how much weight it gives to a perceived link between property and social mobility.

Fireballxl5 · 11/11/2022 12:40

It’s ridiculous.
So biased towards who you know.
I did this twice.
The only thing that changed was I remembered that I knew a university lecturer and a scientist.
I went from traditional working class to elite.
What a load of bunkum.

Scottishgirl85 · 11/11/2022 12:40

Elite. But if you saw me in the street you wouldn't know. 5ft tall, scottish, look much younger than I am (still get ID'd!), always dressed in jeans/casual.

catbirddogchild · 11/11/2022 12:40

Elite apparently??? Not how I would describe myself.

TruestRepairman · 11/11/2022 12:43

ChevreChase · 11/11/2022 12:08

I picked hobbies of classical music, stately homes, galleries, arts and crafts. Said my circle are all the professional ones, plus artist.

However because I rent, my income is currently under 25k (single mum plus retraining), and I have 8k in savings, I am the precariat, "this is the poorest and most deprived class group ... working class background, mix with people like yourself". Bit surprised! It must be really weighted towards income and rental/ownership status.

Yeah, I think this.

I did a similar test a year or two ago and came out in one of the bottom categories, despite ticking a lot of the cultural boxes and being a homeowner.

This one, I'm supposed to be "technical middle class". The difference? I have a wodge of savings now that I didn't have last time. I had less than 10k then and now in the 50-100k bracket.

DriftwoodOnTheShore · 11/11/2022 12:45

Established middle class
