I'll start. I work in research. Lone parent. Rent. Minimal savings (think under 1k). I'm an 'emergent service worker' - never heard of this before!

Technical middle class - whatever this means

middleofthelittle · 11/11/2022 13:22

Established middle class which is interesting since I grew up on benefits in the 90's.

Baconand · 11/11/2022 13:23

It depends how I value my pension-it’s final/average salary.

I come out as Elite or Technical Middle Class. Neither is right.

I live rurally for a start. I have working class background parents but was brought up in a lower middle class environment. My husband is old money background though - but I’m the one with the money! Lol

Simonjt · 11/11/2022 13:24

Elite…I think its purely due to the value of our home as it stayed the same when I went back and lowered our income.

I’m an immigrant who grew up in a flat shared with another family, attended a very average state school, was made homeless and guardianless at 17.

rainbowstardrops · 11/11/2022 13:26

Established middle class. What a crock of shite!!!
My family - all of us - have always been working class and not affluent at all.
My uncle was mayor of my home time for a few years though so that's the equivalent to royalty right? Wink

FindingMeno · 11/11/2022 13:26

Emergent service.

DotBall · 11/11/2022 13:26

Elite! But that is purely down to savings that came from a payout after DH had to retire through ill health. Day to day we have a very functional existence as the savings/investments have to stretch a long way.

user3729104859301018384592 · 11/11/2022 13:27

It says I'm elite 😂 I don't think so 😂

loudbatperson · 11/11/2022 13:28

Technical middle class, and the description was so spot in its scary.

Indoctro · 11/11/2022 13:28

Elite is what I got but I think that's due to my husband salary and our savings.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 11/11/2022 13:29

I’m established middle class which is interesting, because when I adjusted my income and savings to where they were this time last year (I’ve just had a payrise tipping me into the next bracket) I was new affluent.

So not that well established then.

Tillsforthrills · 11/11/2022 13:31

Elite but I certainly am not.

Looneytune253 · 11/11/2022 13:35

Established mc for me. Minimum wage workers with house value of less thank 125k and no savings like but I do have some varied friends and do actually do quite a bit of poncey stuff lol

LeMoo · 11/11/2022 13:36

It's rubbish, i get competent different results depending on the salary and savings I enter. Totally meaningless - what it really is a wealth scorer and no one needs a questionnaire for that.

LeMoo · 11/11/2022 13:37

*completely

Pandor · 11/11/2022 13:37

Fascinating how many people got Elite and feel compelled to excuse it/laugh it off. I think that is quite revealing, an automatic sense of discomfort and need to qualify it with “but of course that’s nonsense because xyz”.

you tend to get a very similar response from people who might traditionally be called Upper Middle Class (or even Upper Class) - a reflex response of “well I suppose I’m Middle Class really, although it isn’t something I ever think about…” ( this is really the only acceptable response - you must never claim to be Upper Middle/Upper Class, that is for others to infer and for you to strenuously deny ! )

It is all really interesting.

ImPickleRickSpartacus · 11/11/2022 12:02

Don't need to take it to know I'm an oik. 🤷‍♀️

I'm sure everyone else on here is an elite but will be falling over themselves to let us know they're really humble about it and drive a banger and have threadbare clothes covered in Labrador hair.

That made me laugh - a lot...

flingingmelon · 11/11/2022 13:38

Elite - which is nonsense

IHeartGeneHunt · 11/11/2022 13:41

Precariat.

Montague22 · 11/11/2022 13:42

Elite, but I’m absolutely not!

BanditoShipman · 11/11/2022 13:42

Elite which is weird as we have zero savings and I would have thought working class

Lndnmummy · 11/11/2022 13:42

Elite - which made me laugh as sat where worrying about affording my bills

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/11/2022 13:43

Established middle class. Probably about right (although I don’t know what the technical middle class category means..), apart from the comfortably off bit, lol

mast0650 · 11/11/2022 13:44

I'm elite. Apparently. But interestingly they don't ask about your own occupation or schooling which you would think would be most relevant? It says the elite "went to private school and elite universities". I went to a comprehensive.

Mylittlesandwich · 11/11/2022 13:47

"New affluent workers" I don't feel very bloody affluent. Their bracket for income is enormous though and if I was near the upper end I may agree.
