Relations between China and the UK

If there is a thread on this already I apologise.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11857821/China-warns-AUKUS-deal-going-dangerous-path.html

There has been talk for a very long time, so it's no surprise. I understand we will be at war with them in possibly 18 plus months.

I gather we obtain a lot of pharma drugs from India.

I don't know a great deal about trade with China and who they can control trade with us if at war.

I understand they are in BRICS so those countries loyalty is likely to China.

What can be done on a personal level to deal with the potential changes in trade?

@Southwestten yes you’re right - Barbados has remained in the commonwealth, they have just removed the Queen (King) as head of state. I have no idea whether China had any influence in this, I suspect it was more that China saw an opportune moment where Barbados felt let down by the lack of financial support from the U.K. (and had a supportive new Labour Barbados government) and swooped in to an island which was ripe for updating infrastructure, close to the USA and with a decent sized airport!

The DHS is keeping an eye out for potential spies, the source told Fox, especially after the State Department shot down a Chinese balloon believed to be surveilling the US.

I understand that there are posters in this thread encouraging others elsewhere on MN to come here because they disagree with me and they want others to back them up against me.

Ok well it’s been an interesting thread in any case.

A very complex issue which will take good minds to keep things calm.

I did notice that Xi will be speaking with Zelenskyy soon, sometimes I feel they are more in middle of everything as a global power rather than just siding with non-West. But I can see it might make people jumpy when the alternative meetings happen.

Fifi0000 · 16/03/2023 15:59

Nope they filmed the HMS queen Elizabeth 2 years ago and we were playing chicken with them in the south China sea. The reason the west have reacted so strongly to Ukraine is so China doesn't get any ideas. I doubt there will be a huge scale war nuclear deterrence does the trick but non of our allies in the east have them. There will be more spending on the defence budget as China is now a rival.

Er, if that was me I was doing no such thing. I linked to this discussion as it's related to the other thread. And if you interpret asking you to back up what you're saying as disagreeing with you then there's not much I can say to that! You are saying very alarmist things that just need to be appropriately clarified. That was my point.

You called me - a disabled person "Dodgy" Mumsnet can confirm.

Thank you for bringing this up.

I am reliant on prescription medication from India, so supply issues would really impact me. I'm watching this thread with interest.

I suggest you avoid the other thread, they describe those who aren't in perfect health like me, as making them 'want to smash their head at a brick wall' I think it was.

I said that I was banging my head against a wall 'on another thread' trying to get a factual response to my questions. I said nothing about you personally as I don't know anything about you.

LittleFingerStrength · 16/03/2023 16:30

I didn't post on that thread derailing it and I didn't post links here asking others to go derail your thread.

So much for reasonable adjustments.

The third post on this thread states I am dyslexic, that's what was in my deleted post.

I didn't do that, I didn't suggest anybody post on here. I was just signalling my frustration at what I feel is disinformation on a different thread that is concerned with that very thing. I'm suspicious about why you're misrepresenting it in this way but do carry on, people can figure things out for themselves.

LittleFingerStrength · 16/03/2023 16:39

Enjoy your thread, I never posted there.

I started my own thread, I didn't direct link your thread as was done to me, whist calling me dodgy, as I say third post here was that I am dyslexic, I am not the best skilled at certain things, I am trying to work through things like everyone else on Mumsnet, my language and though style don't suit some, fine.

This thread has been derailed enough.

OP posts:
MagicFox · 16/03/2023 16:42

I apologise for linking, that was in response to another poster asking what thread I was referring to. But I didn't intend to derail your thread at all, these were separate issues. And fwiw nobody has commented on this thread from that context.

RosaGallica · 16/03/2023 19:48

I’m sure I remember reading somewhere that one reason World War One became inevitable was because everyone believed it was inevitable. I can only hope that that won’t happen this time.

China is not precisely a new power, it has direct continuity with an ancient one that has seen many ups and downs already.

One thing that worries me is the current direct links, and ongoing flattery, between the U.K. and India. No doubt India would like other powers local to it, China and Russia, to be destabilised and reduced by war with the west. And perhaps involvement with US interests in Asia is something of the price we will pay for US protection in Europe.

Let’s hope the Chinese, having an ancient history of their own, will “still love their children too”. I would prefer Asia to learn the lessons from world wars in Europe, not repeat them.

LittleFingerStrength · 16/03/2023 21:06

I don't want an echo chamber thread. I am interested in others points of view and information sharing. I don't like what I view as what was potential bullying going on.

Yes China and India have strained relations despite being in BRICS.

I gather there were long term folow ups from Havana.

There are so many possibilities, power stations, power cables, hacks, bio weapons.

War start dates are at times are later decided by historians not in contemporary times, I think we have been in early stages of WW3 for some time, others may disagree.

It is indeed, and also yes, there was derailment in the States ....and...?

The current USA administration have some very odd ideas about healthcare in my opinion when it comes to hormone treatment so there research into this, who knows.

With the Chinese making some mobile phones which many sleep with by their heads, loss of tic tok and balloons flying about they could be up to anything and we wouldn't know.

I remember newspapers covering up new black triangle shape planes in the 1990s as Aliens and those who saw them as insane.
