Monkeytrousers

Re rape - of course that's much more serious! But some would argue that in wider context of the sexual objectification of women, genital hairlessness is part of the whole picture.
Like men who want to sleep with virgins, who go abroad and pay extra for young girls, who like porn with school girl looking women with 'no grass on the pitch' etc.

Of course women who shave for their own personal pleasure are entitled to do so.
But I would argue that none of us like in a vacuum and that the desire to be hairless is effected by an all pervasive misogyny that seems to be invisible to a lot of women under 30!

bollockbrain · 20/01/2009 14:28

I don't think a single poster on this thread who waxes, shaves, trims, epilates does it to emanate a 7 year old girl, or correct me if I am wrong and point me to the post .

The majority would do this for hygeine, or to feel more comfortable, or to avoid those awful 'fishtails' that you occasionally spot when you are climbing out of the swinmming pools behind someone else.

ipanemagirl · 20/01/2009 14:28

sorry, that should have been "none of us live in a vacuum"

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 14:29

I don;t actually think any kind of aesthetic surgery is inherently 'bad'. It's all on the contiuum of grooming - skin care, hair cuts, hair dye, high heels, shoulder pads, corsets, makeup, boob jobs, facelifts, botox, and on.

The phenomenon of sending 'false signals' of fittness is seen across species not just ours. Ours are just helped by technology now and are more sophistcated.

To say it's a feminist issue echos the 70s when feminists thought makeup was a form of facism. It's not. Women actually wear makeup for many reasons, not just men. And the fasion and make up industry is targetd at women, not men.

RiaParkinson · 20/01/2009 14:31

bollockbrain 'hygiene' ?? OH PLEASE

Threadworm · 20/01/2009 14:33

All those pustules, ingrowing hairs, etc that you get from hair removal are so much more hygenic and comfortable than the silky smooth hair provided by evolution.

bollockbrain · 20/01/2009 14:33

Ria - NO NEED TO SHOUT

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 14:34

No, I don't think they do do it to eminate prepubesance. It was dereived from porn so th epunter could see the 'meat shot' better. To see it was genuine porn - or penetration.

That does however have the unfortunate consequence of sexualising prepubeseant fannies. It's an unfortunate corrolation. I wouldn;t be suprised if there were some men who are uncomfortable in front of naked girls now because the porn has skewed their own innocence in that area. Not that they fancy young girls, just one image is redolant of a more explicit cousin.

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 14:35

pustules??

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 14:36

oh sorry, that you get from hair removal. relax MT

bollockbrain · 20/01/2009 14:36

threadworm - not had the pustules or ingrowing hairs myself, perhaps you were doing it wrong

Threadworm · 20/01/2009 14:38

I'm not doing it at all. I just read of a lot of pustules and the like on MN fanjo threads.

RiaParkinson · 20/01/2009 14:38

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 14:53

I don;t like that Ariel Levi book. Feminists in denial about women is all it said to me.

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 14:53

WEell actuallym, it didn;t say that to me first time I read it. I liked it first time. 4 years down the line though, it says above.

Quite. Each to their own. And that also means the Jodie Marsh's of this world, whether I actually think she's lewd exhibtionist or not. Her right to be a lewd exhbtionist is actually one of the triumphs of feminism.
