Who are the nicest, most un-starry slebs you've ever met?

We've done the nasty, horrid ones, who would you be happy to go down the pub with?

Bryn Terfel - a really, really nice man, through and through

ScaryHalloweenSquonkRAAR · 08/10/2008 21:35

I bumped into Steve Bruce (okay, not quite a sleb, but twas in the days when he used to play for Manchester United )

anyway... I didn't realise who he was and I thought I knew him, but just couldn't quite place him (you know what I mean, like when you see your kid's teacher in tescos, you don't quite know who they are out of context)

Anyway, I didn't want him to think I was ignorant so I chatted away to him for aaaages and he was very polite and really chatty and asked how my family were and said to say hello to my husband for him, and it was only after about ten minutes of chatting that I said goodbye and walked away.

Then my mate who had been a bit all the way through asked how long I'd been mates with the Man Utd elite.

I was and wondered how he would have reacted if I'd told him I was a dyed in the wool Manchester city fan and always had been

Ralph Little. Was expecting him to be a bit of an arrogant twunt but he was actually very humble and genuinely funny.

Habbibu · 08/10/2008 21:37

And Andy Serkis - before he was a proper sleb, but also lovely.

JellycatShopkeeper · 08/10/2008 21:39

Ron Wood.

Lovely bloke.

Marina · 08/10/2008 21:39

Michael Holroyd, the writer, is a very nice guy too

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 08/10/2008 21:40

I got chatting to Chris Evans in the pub once, when TFI was still on & he was riding high on the hog.

He was utterly charming, had all the time in the world for me & bought me a drink. I'd always thought he was rather up his own arse 'til then, but seemed a really lovely guy.

Ewe · 08/10/2008 21:40

Edith Bowman, Colin Murray... Most of the Radio 1 DJs are really lovely, apart from Chris Moyles who always seems to be v.grumpy!

ShinyPinkShoes · 08/10/2008 21:42

Ant & Dec
Patsy Palmer
Phil Collins
Jason Donovan
Patsy Kensit

Have met lots of others but the above were the friendliest and most down to earth

shanks313 · 08/10/2008 21:43

Anyone from Stargate Sg1 or Atlantis. They are all so friendly.

SorenLorensen · 08/10/2008 21:46

Not my story - but a woman who works with dh was having Sunday lunch in a country pub with her family and Owen Hargreaves was there having a meal (he plays for Manchester United and England, for those not in the know). Her grandchildren were really excited and wanted to ask him for his autograph but their parents said not to bother him - but he overheard and came over and chatted to them and signed autographs etc. He left before they did - and when they went to settle up, they found he had paid their bill! How nice is that?

And (if Tamum would come back she would tell you this herself) Tim Brooke Taylor and Graeme Garden were lovely to her ds when he waited to talk to them after a show.

LovelyDear · 08/10/2008 21:47

we had a lovely play with jennifer connelly and Paul Bettany and their kid in the park once...they were v nice. her more so than him, he was trying to be super-dad...

LovelyDear · 08/10/2008 21:50

and when i was 15 i went backstage after an omd gig and they were all sitting on tables, waiting for a chat and a peck on the cheek. we were taken in to meet them in groups of 4. i was so shy but took their photos nonetheless...i had no plan of what to say to them - i'd been kind of expecting more of a scrum...

2shoesdrippingwithblood · 08/10/2008 21:51

dame vera lyn, what a wonderful woman.

AlistairSim · 08/10/2008 21:51

My dp is mostly quite smiley and pleasant.

purplesponge · 08/10/2008 22:14

I've met David Tennant too, (twice!) he is so lovely and friendly, despite being knackered from throwing himself round the stage for 3 1/2 hours!

Russell T Davies (Doctor Who boss) is a smashing bloke too, He spent the whole of the Hamlet interval taking to fans, signing stuff and having pictures taken with people and seemed genuinely happy to be doing so.

I've also met Ulrika Jonnson too, years ago. She was suprisingly normal and un-starry, just sat with us chatting about her children. I think it helped that my friend and I were there to do a job just like she was and were not all starstruck.

Tamsin Greig, normal, lovely and very funny.

Ozziegirly · 09/10/2008 03:57

I second Chris Evans and also Billie Piper - they used to go to the pub in the village I was living in and were totally normal and friendly.

twentypence · 09/10/2008 06:45

Ds met Natalie Klein - okay so as a classical musician I'm not sure she qualifies - but she was just so lovely with him after old people had spent 15 minutes of a 20 minute interval signing pushing him out of the way or "not seeing him".

Ds on being led away by me then pipes up "when do we meet the cello lady then?"

Blackduck · 09/10/2008 06:52

my dad behind a man at the RADA box office...
Man - I think you may have tickets for me.
Box Office person - Who are you?
Man - John Thaw.....

My dad said he was so unassuming...
