Who are the nicest, most un-starry slebs you've ever met?

We've done the nasty, horrid ones, who would you be happy to go down the pub with?

John Peel - exactly like his on-air persona, funny, engaging and enthusiastic and had time for everyone, even though he must have been mobbed by hangers-on every day.

And I wouldn't say "met" exactly but I bumped into Justin Fletcher and instinctively grinned and waved at him (forgetting that of course I know him off the telly and he doesn't know me from Adam ). He grinned and waved back! How sweet of him, he could easily have just given me a "wtf?" look.

cornsilklikeshumous · 11/12/2009 23:14

Aw at Justin!
at Nigella.

The Redknapps - Jamie and Louise - used to come into the shop I worked in all the time....really nice and down to earth.

Chris Eubanks - mad as fish, but nice as pie (does that make him fish pie?? ), at least he does his own ironing (albeit, in his undercrackers!!)

Heidi Klum - Beautiful, down to earth, friendly and gorgeous - gush, gush, gush...really a truley nice woman...makes her own coffee too (pre- seal days)

Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty) - sorted his vat refund out for him and was so happy..nice bloke.

Um, alot of the England Rugby team....the one that goes out with Zara Phillips..he's nice

Cor I miss working in the West End!!

frumpygrumpy · 11/12/2009 23:26

......inventing a "freezing time" potion and a "send me back so I can administer said potion" potion....

I'm not desperately wishing.

lavenderkate · 11/12/2009 23:34

Les Dennis.
When my dd was 9 wks old and chronically ill in Hospital he was touring the childrens ward with a big entourage.
He was ushered past the glass windows of our room but he saw me sitting by dd2 and turned round and came back in.
He stayed a while, chatted to me and stroked poor dd's little bald head.

Oh what a lovely man. I have never forgotten. (that was 11 years ago).

cornsilklikeshumous · 11/12/2009 23:34

Yes the send me back potion is the vital component!

lavenderkate · 11/12/2009 23:39

I met Jamie through work, he was charming, really nice chap.

Kylie also met through work. Teeny weeny and very funny. Skin like a porcelain doll.

Kris Akabusi. just brilliant; kind, very very jolly and normal.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 11/12/2009 23:41

Bruce Foxton

My dh has met hundreds of celebs in the course of his work and his favourite by miles is Rolf Harris (I posted about it here on Mumsnet, we were sooooo excited).

Poppity · 11/12/2009 23:48

What do you people do?

I've never met anyone except Prince Phillip who gave out our rosettes at Smiths Lawn when I was about 12. It was supposed to be the Queen, but she was tanking around busily in her Range Rover instead.

I am pleased to hear that Tom Baker really is barking, and Clint Eastwood is polite, but really and truly I need to know why Jake Gyllenhaal was in an open shirt and jodhpurs?

Poppity · 12/12/2009 11:54

Killed that then

UnquietDad · 12/12/2009 13:12

You didn't kill it, poppity, we're all just trying to think of the best answer!

I think there is no one "place" or "thing" where you meet slebs. Some I have just bumped into, others I have known would be there because I was at a recording of something (e.g. Mastermind), sometimes I was at a convention or gathering (where I've met most Doctor Who people) or a book launch. As for Harding, well, I, ahem, was in London for another purpose and thankfully was able to get the experiences to dovetail.

mrsruffallo · 12/12/2009 13:14

Some he has stalked shamelessly

UnquietDad · 12/12/2009 13:15

Sometimes it's a case of being a little bit cheeky. e.g. when my daughter got Pixie Lott's autograph, we were at a free festival where she had just performed, and happened to see that a group of people had collared her by the security fence as she slipped off and she was happily signing things. She seemed happier to do this than the somewhat-scowling management! She was really sweet and happy to pose for photos. I think a lot of pop stars and film stars on the way up are like this - it's when they get too famous that you have to watch them!

CybilDisturbance · 12/12/2009 13:18

Well, I found Elton and David to be just delightful when I bumped into them in Lidl

CybilDisturbance · 12/12/2009 13:19

And (this one is true) MAx Clifford used to come into Next when I worked there and he was very very nice

bruffin · 12/12/2009 13:28

To answer your question Poppity, I used to work for a charity and we had the occasional event with celebrities.
Actually just remembered Rolf Harris who we saw performing locally. Afterwards he was signing autographs and selling some of his books. Every book he sold he signed and drew a little sketch. He spent hours chatting and drawing for everybody.

My DH also met him as a child when he visited the children's hospital.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 12/12/2009 13:42

Poppity - to answer your question - my dh is a television sports journalist. Just like our esteemed founder Justine Mumsnet.

chocolaterabbit · 12/12/2009 14:00

DH, DD and I were on holiday in Wales 18 months ago and decided to visit Raglan Castle. They were filming Merlin so most of the castle was closed so DD (aged 1 at the time) was practising getting onto her feet and trying to walk and almost immediately fell over again. She had just managed to totter a few steps when she fell over a man dressed in full armour. He picked her up, told her how well she was doing and gave her to me saying she was very beautiful. It was Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from Buffy). Wow.

Also met Ian Hislop when I was 18, he was a good friend of my boyfriend's dad. He was also great, really chatted patiently about university/ course options etc. Julan Clary was also lovely but so beautiful irl that I got a bit tangled.

chocolaterabbit · 12/12/2009 14:03

Also Alison Steadman - gav's mum in Gavin and Stacey absolutely wonderful, gorgeous warm and friendly. Victoria Wood otoh is a bit of a snotty cow.

TeenageWildlife · 12/12/2009 15:24

David Bowie - charming and wonderul and puts you at your ease.

Also, and surprisingly Jonathan Ross, not at all up himslef, really lovely.

Rosesinautumn · 12/12/2009 15:52

Dawn French is a doll and beautiful in the flesh.

Stephan Fry - v. friendly and sweet.

Peter Kay - funny and sooo down to earth.

H from Steps - Suprisingly lovely and not as annoying as you would think

And another vote for Jonathan Ross (and his wife), he's a character for sure, but not an arse with it.
