We've done the nasty, horrid ones, who would you be happy to go down the pub with?

My best friend and I went to my local pub recently. Couldn't BELIEVE it but standing at the bar was GOD!!!!! I almost fainted!! He bought me a drink (how nice is that?) and some crisps. We chatted about the devil for a while (apparently he's not very nice) Anyway God was so down to earth. So unslebby. I thought that what with creating the world and universe and everything he might be a bit up himself but he was SOOOOO lovely. My friend was SOOOOO jealous!

I have met Helen Baxendale (rachel in cold feet) twice in richmond 3 years apart I think..first time, just passed beside her. Second time it was in habitat, and she completely freaked out (well that's what dh said!)..her nostrils was wide opened ! I was just really surprised to be face to face with her when I was just saying to dh 20 minutes before "do you remember when we saw helen baxendale ???" so I must have made a really weird face when I saw her and I scared her ! But I'm sure she is lovely !!!

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 08/10/2009 16:15

Ive never met anyone famous. Unless you count Larry Grayson doing his rounds but even then I was to young to properly remember.
Oh Oh the Weasley Twins turned on the Christmas lights one year and I said hello to them. There we go, I feel better now.

Fajitas · 08/10/2009 16:25

David Mitchell. Great bloke.

Didn't like Paul Bettany one bit. Turned up at my gym wearing totally box fresh white trainers (don't know why that should have annoyed me, but it did ) and then talked about himself, loudly, in the third person.

MrsChemist · 08/10/2009 20:12

James Blunt. He had an aftershow party at the pub me and DH work in. His agents and record label people had booked upstairs for a private funtion, and were all up there sipping champagne. He stayed downstairs to chat to his fans, because he said he wouldn't have been where he was without them. When they finally dragged him upstairs he invited all his fans up with him.
Apparently the exacs were a bit cat's bum mouth about it.

DH went backstage when Metaillica played MEN and he met Machine Head and said they were great.

Also, Elijah Wood is mean to be really nice. If he is in England he usually ends up in Manchester. Apparently he likes the Manchester music scene and a few mates work at Manchester Academy, so have met him a few times.

fiercebadrabbit · 08/10/2009 21:20

Jamie Oliver is utterly delightful - though overworked and frequently very stressed

Heston Blumenthal ditto

Ben Elton is shockingly nice (I was shocked anyway)

Shakira is charming and very switched on

They are far outnumbered, however, by sleb twunts but that is a different - and often done - thread

ciforjif · 08/10/2009 21:33

Tears for Fears at the Hammersmith Odeon-really nice guys but...
Jamie (James) Whitham made my knees knock. My boss took me to his trailer at Brands Hatch. He came out even though he was having his breakfast. Shook my hand and we had a lovely chat etc.
A really nice, genuine down to earth guy.
Also met Steve Hislop on the same day!

flibertygibet · 08/10/2009 23:22

Davina McCall...very down to earth and lovely.

Ray Winstone...totally normal.

Keith Duffy

SweetestThing · 04/11/2009 22:47

Tony Benn - lovely, lovely, lovely man. I want him to be the grandad I never knew

JulesJules · 05/11/2009 19:41

Ben Elton lovely.

Jo Brand also lovely.

doingthelambethwalk · 05/11/2009 19:46

Mark Owen and his wife and son are very nice, our toddlers played together in a pub for a bit once.

Mcdreamy · 05/11/2009 19:53

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/11/2009 19:58

I second Mark Owen - lovely, lovely, lovely man
Austin Healy and Emma Forbes both great fun (thanks mumsnet!)
Michelle Collins - not the cow I expected at all!
Ian Wright - very funny
Harry Enfield - very sweet
Ulrika - never really liked her before but had to call her about a reference and she was fab, totally changed my mind about her
Peter Andre (and I hear that Katie is also lovely and very down to earth)

Not my stories (and better slebs than mine!) but I hear that Johnny Depp is really lovely as was Brad and Jen when they were together.

NeedaNewName · 05/11/2009 20:09

Now wheres the other thread cos I've come across some pretty awful slebs too!

UnquietDad · 21/11/2009 16:11

All the Doctors Who I've met are nice chaps. Jon Pertwee was slightly brusque but he had been signing autographs for a few hours. Tom Baker is barking but you can't help liking him. Peter Davison quite modest and unassuming and always makes time for the fans. Colin Baker very friendly and witty. Nicola Bryant (Peri) and Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah-Jane) I remember as being especially lovely too.

Jarvis Cocker was in a group of people which knew mine in a Sheffield pub once - seemed a friendly chap. Phil Oakey is often out and about in the city too - seen him a couple of times, and he sort of blends into the background. The 80s stars I've interviewed were all nice: Carol Decker of T'Pau, Princess, Buster Bloodvessel... must be others I can't remember but nobody was an arse.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 23/11/2009 00:59

Barry Sheen (RIP) and David Essex and Austin Healey...all really nice fella's.

mrswill · 24/11/2009 19:54

Rhys Ifans - met at work do, was lovely and very charming, may have been slightly drunk though, gorgeous in the flesh.

Wanker - Gavin Henson - again met at a work do when he was there in an official capacity.
He spent most of his time texting on a mobile phone, interrupting speeches. Asked him to sign a rugby ball for my niece, and he looked at me like i was something he scraped off his shoe.
He behaved the same with everyone else, even small children who were very excited to see him. Very different to his other half Charlotte Church, who by my friends account is very down to earth and a good laugh. The rest of the Wales Squad were lovely.

mrswill · 24/11/2009 19:55

Sorry, thought it was asking for the good and the bad in OP then!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 24/11/2009 19:56

Ruth Jones.

UnquietDad · 02/12/2009 09:31

Remembered some more the other day.

Helen Lederer (radio/TV comedienne) was very nice and chatty and down-to-earth.

Magnus Magunusson was a real gentleman and a true professional. He put all the contestants at their ease between rounds with jokes, and after filming he went and sat among the remaining audience to talk and sign things. He was a really, really nice chap.

Pixie Lott was very sweet and charming and seemed quite shy, in contrast to her "raunchy stage persona". She signed DD's bookmark!

Jeremy Edwards was a total love - as was Rachel Stevens.

My mum used to work in a theatre and raved about Roy Castle and 'Nast' Nick from Eastenders - she said he was lovely. But she hated Val Donnigan (sp?)

Another vote for David Tennant - very appreciative of his fans
