What are your opinions on a guest sleeping naked in someone else's house?

I'm talking here about a male, late 60s to early 70s, who always sleeps naked and this includes when being a guest in someone's home.
Also, would you be comfortable letting you DC visit and sleep in the same house with this man (he is granny's husband)?

A guest sleeping naked in my house - I wouldn't do it, personally, but if one of my guests does it, hopefully I'd never know (and I'd be stripping the bed straight afterwards and washing all the bedding anyway).

A guest walking around outside the bedroom naked in my house - absolutely not and I'd be asking them not to do it - if they did it again they wouldn't be invited back.

Runnermumof2 · 28/10/2026 10:40

How would you even know ? As a guest can do whatever is comfortable for them. I'm going to clean the sheets when they leave regardless.

I’m really curious - people who are adamant they must sleep naked and have kids. Do you make your kids sleep naked too?!

Can’t imagine not putting my kids in pyjamas especially in winter?!

No of course I wouldn't make my kids sleep naked. They are young adults now, but I didnt when they were younger. But I wouldn't make them put pyjamas on either. They should be able to sleep however they find it most comfortable, just like me.

But how else would she know he sleeps naked? I inferred from the post that she must have seen him at some point otherwise why bother posting.

Oh I thought she saw him naked in the hallway and then assumed he had been sleeping naked.. otherwise the post would have said "is it okay to sleep in PJs but then go streaking around the house with kids about".

Haha I assume it was clumsy wording but yeah, fair enough, she might have spy cameras in her guest bedroom.

KaleidoscopeSmile · 28/10/2026 11:06

Well that was a fucking stupid, pointless thread. Do people make these just for some attention in life do you think?

Are pants really that uncomfortable?

They are uncomfortable and also not recommended for sleeping in. Underwear traps heat and moisture, which can increase the risk of yeast infections, bacterial growth, and skin irritation. For men, trapping too much heat around the testicles can raise local temperatures, which may negatively affect sperm production and quality over time. Much better to sleep naked so the body can regulate its own temperature and allow genitalia and surrounding skin to breathe and stay dry.

Mayne don't wear pants that are too tight? 🤔🙄😂

It's not a bloody health issue, especially not for a night. 🙄

Honestly, if a person cannot wear some sort of clothes to sleep in when guests are over or when staying over at someone else's home .... I have no words.

No my kids both wear pjs. And I used to wear pjs when I was younger. But I’ve also always been a bad sleeper. Once I started sleeping naked I slept ever so slightly by my better.

On the other hand my sister always sleeps with pjs, and her dd hates pjs and always strips off in bed!

I genuinely can’t sleep in clothes. I have tried and sometimes I do for a variety of reasons, like when in hospital or sharing a room with someone (like a friend). But I don’t sleep. It generally takes me an hour or so to get to sleep and if I’m in clothes it takes longer. I just can’t get comfy. I assume it’s some sort of sensory thing.

I particularly can’t stand bottoms- pants or trousers. I am better with leggings (I think it is the movement of the fabric that I find uncomfortable. I do fidget A LOT in bed.

Thank goodness we won’t be staying over at your house! 😬

Yes fine. Although I was a bit surprised once when I heard my naked husband meet my naked Dad in the bathroom. Dad went back to bed which woke my Mum up who then went to bathroom naked and also met my naked husband who was coming out! Serves them all right for not wearing dressing gowns.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dontevenlookatme · 29/10/2026 08:54

He can sleep how he likes.

Can’t granny be asked to have a gentle word about covering up in front of the children?

It’s a reasonable ask, can’t see any reason for him to object.

ETA and when making midnight trips to the bathroom of course!

Secretseverywhere · 29/10/2026 09:05

I have zero issues with someone sleeping naked in their own bed or in my guest room. I would expect them to cover up on a midnight dash to the loo either way if there are other people around. I’d be unimpressed to encounter my host naked in the hallway.

Everyone I’ve known who sleeps naked (ex partners so a limited sample) just puts something on before leaving bedroom, bathrobe, boxers, pj bottoms etc. Takes seconds then take them off before hopping back into bed.

I guess the only part that matters is, does he leave the bedroom naked?

Exactly

Unless you're walking into their bedroom in the middle of the night, how would you even know? I can't see how it impacts on you whatsoever.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 29/10/2026 12:43

I didn't realise so many people sleep naked. I always wear pants and a t-shirt, so does DH. I would feel really uncomfortable sleeping naked. I don't like having my bits exposed for some reason.

I was actually the opposite - I just assumed all adults slept naked unless they were ill or elderly, as I have never known anyone personally that doesn’t.

How do you know what all the people you know pesonally wear (or don't wear) in bed?

Well I’ll rephrase that to all the people I have known intimately, and also those that I have had that particular conversation with.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/10/2026 15:08

OP did specify the aspect of her children sleeping over. It sounds like there is an issue of not covering up when needed in granny's hone and possibly at OP's home (re the title).

So, my take is granny's dh's bits have been seen by everyone at some point. That's why I specified wearing sone appropriate sleeping attire as it sounds like the guy nips down the hall to the loo starkers.

Same. I have to be properly exhausted to be able to sleep naked. Partner can do it just fine. We run different temperatures, too. Some nights he’s laying there in the scud and I’m done up like Nanook of the North. Some sight to greet a burglar.

Waitingfordoggo · 29/10/2026 15:35

I slept naked for years when I was a young woman but I get too cold now, and my boobs just go where they want and that’s not always comfortable 😂

worrisomeasset · 29/10/2026 15:44

I've no idea what my house guests wear when they sleep in the spare room. I always wash the sheets after they've left so it's never occurred to me to give a single thought to what they do or don't wear in bed.
