What are your opinions on a guest sleeping naked in someone else's house?

I'm talking here about a male, late 60s to early 70s, who always sleeps naked and this includes when being a guest in someone's home.
Also, would you be comfortable letting you DC visit and sleep in the same house with this man (he is granny's husband)?

I suppose it's the walking around naked outside the room that bothers me. Like going to the toilet without covering up

That needed to be the focus of your OP!! No one cares how you sleep but obviously walking around naked with children in the house (or any guests) is unacceptable!

CrapADoodleCupcake · 27/10/2026 22:12

Many, many people sleep naked though OP! Surely you are aware of this? It’s perfectly normal.

Doctordoolittle · 27/10/2026 22:14

In his own house without guests- totally fine.

In his own house with guests- fine in the room/en-suite if there is one. Around the house even at night- not fine.

mybiggreenfrog · 27/10/2026 22:14

I sleep naked as a guest in many people's houses. We do not walk to the bathroom naked or anywhere else, so why would it matter?

mamaof4losingmymind · 27/10/2026 22:25

Me and dp both sleep naked but if we had guests we would chuck a dressing gown on to go to the toilet but I wouldn't wear pyjamas just because we had guests

alcovecupboards · 27/10/2026 22:29

I can't say it would bother me unless he was wandering the house naked.

Kickinthenostalgia · 27/10/2026 22:59

As long as I don’t have to see it then not my problem. I always change sheets and clean after every guest so that’s not a problem that end either.

MsAmerica · 27/10/2026 23:04

It is of course no business of a hostess what, if anything, a guest wears to bed. Presumably the bedroom door is closed.

If he wanders out naked, then you can address the subject.

Wtafdidido · 27/10/2026 23:19

So this man is mother grandfather just granny’s husband and is a guest in your home? For me it would be a hard no if he is not prepared to cover up when leaving the bedroom even if it’s just nipping to the bathroom. I and my kids will never accept being made to feel uncomfortable in our own home. Our home our rules .

spaghettiandicecream · 27/10/2026 23:39

Not ok to walk around outside his bedroom naked. Definite red flag 🚩

Fernsarethebestplants · 27/10/2026 23:41

I'm a no on this. I had a relative do this when I was a child and although they were just going to the bathroom, it made me feel uncomfortable, I did not grow up cooler about naked bodies at all. Just no, wear a freaking dressing gown. It's always men as well, if women sleep naked they don't usually walk around naked or go to the bathroom with nothing on when there are children around. Self-centred behaviour (or even worse).

GetAbsOrDieTrying · 27/10/2026 23:53

Any guest can sleep any way they choose. But I would expect them to cover up when they were wandering around the house. Also if the bedroom was not ensuite I would expect them to wear a dressing gown so as not to traumatise the children or anyone else! No one needs to see someone else’s bits without wanting to! 😂

As long as he stays in his bedroom and the kids know to respect people’s privacy and not go crashing into their bedroom at 6am.

I’ve actually never given any consideration to how other people sleep when we stay over with them, or they stay over with us.

That said, once as a teenager, I went on holiday with my dad and his partner. I was stuck on the sofa bed in the lounge (1 bed holiday flat) and I opened my eyes at 2am to his partner tiptoeing across the lounge going for a wee completely starkers. An image that 30 years later is still burned into my memory. There was nothing weird about her 😂 but I guess she was just too lazy to get dressed and thought she’d chance it. I don’t think she noticed me awake or if she did, she pretended she didn’t, and we will both take it to our graves. 🤣

This reminds me of a scene from Kramer v Kramer

rude!!! Doesn’t need to be a child in the house for this to be an issue

I don’t understand people who wear pajamas to bed.

You must let your privates breathe!

You wouldn't understand me then, I wear underwear and a bra, cotton type bralette. Full pj's. I also have the sheets up over my head. I get incredibly cold at night and have a real fear of cold too. Thankfully I have a very warm house but still need the sensation of being full covered.

Oh no, he should put his dressing gown on if guests are staying - though probably thinks nobody else will be out of their room in the middle of the night so takes.a chance.

tellmesomethingtrue · 28/10/2026 02:09

Skid marks and pubes in the sheets. Gross.

CrazyMidget · 28/10/2026 02:17

As long as he puts some clothes on before leaving the bedroom, it's fine. How do you even know he sleeps naked?

I think people who sleep naked are weird. There's all kinds of microscopic poo and wee particles that get onto your bedclothes, not to mention all the sweat. It's just unhygienic. And people who sleep naked are always keen to tell you; it's like they're declaring how wild and free they are. I just think they're odd and that their bedding is full of pubic hair.

LivingTheDreamish · 28/10/2026 03:35

The sleeping naked wouldn't bother me, the walking around in front of me naked would be a problem.

Presumably he’s only naked in his bed room?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/10/2026 05:16

It's common courtesy to make adjustments for guests' comfort. Putting on a robe is one such adjustment. 🤦‍♀️

Honestly, it would give me perv vibes if he wouldn't. 🤔 And it shouldn't have to be pointed out to him or insisted upon, either, as if you're the one with the problem. 🙄
So, since it's an issue, just don't let your dc stay the night because it's crossed into creepy-ville 🚩

Well, that’s a different question. Has he done this and been seen by you/your kids?

In that case, no, I wouldn't be happy with letting my DC stay overnight. You have said that he's granny's husband so he isn't related to your DC.

Have you witnessed this or have your children told you about him doing this?

Maisymouse2 · 28/10/2026 06:04

There is always a robe to wear.

Do you tend to leve skidmarks and pubes on your sheets? 😅Most people aren't wiping or dragging their bottoms on bedsheets AFAIK. Do you provide guests with towels? Don't you wash your sheets after guests have visited?
