What are your opinions on a guest sleeping naked in someone else's house?

I'm talking here about a male, late 60s to early 70s, who always sleeps naked and this includes when being a guest in someone's home.
Also, would you be comfortable letting you DC visit and sleep in the same house with this man (he is granny's husband)?

There is no pair of pants available that is as comfortable as no pants so it’s a moot point.

I like having my pants on. 😊

Also I thought the older gentleman might enjoy the support

gratefulmezze · 27/10/2026 18:51

How do you know your guest sleeps naked? I think this is key really 😂

I suppose it's the walking around naked outside the room that bothers me. Like going to the toilet without covering up

Does he do that, then? How do you know?

I sleep naked and so does my boyfriend. If we’re in someone else’s house we put something on to walk to the toilet.

Even if someone does nip across the landing starkers for a wee at 3am or something, I can’t see how that’s a threat to your child. Presumably the kids are asleep in bed, not coincidentally wandering around the house in the 20 seconds someone might be naked on the landing. And I don’t think it would kill them to see a glimpse of someone’s bum by accident. There’s a big difference between that and someone deliberately exposing themselves to a child.

MrsPernicious · 27/10/2026 19:07

I've had so many guests stay over the decades. Never have I felt the need to check the night time attire. How do you do that? Do you sneak in and pat them down at 3 am? Niche.

Naked on the landing? Dressing gowns? Provided by the host who is unable to provide en suites.

BriarTime · 27/10/2026 19:08

Sleeping naked? Fine.
Wandering out of their allocated room naked? Not fine.
Also baffled by MN’s insistence that post-toddler kids crawling into people’s beds is par for the course. They need to be taught to knock and respect privacy, for their own sake as well as others’.

Teenagerantruns · 27/10/2026 19:10

This so werid l normally sleep naked, but when we have guests l put a dressing gown on when l go to the toilet in the night, is it really an issue?

Walking around naked in someone else’s house - nope wouldn’t be comfortable with that. I sleep in my underwear but if I was a guest I would absolutely cover up to walk out of the room (dressing gown or joggers / top as don’t own pjs) - In fact I would cover up the minute I was out of the bed just in case someone walked in eg a child. Likewise if I was hosting someone I was also cover up to go to the bathroom irrespective of the fact they’re in my house. Walking around naked is taking it to a whole other level

mindutopia · 27/10/2026 19:18

As long as he stays in his bedroom and the kids know to respect people’s privacy and not go crashing into their bedroom at 6am.

I’ve actually never given any consideration to how other people sleep when we stay over with them, or they stay over with us.

That said, once as a teenager, I went on holiday with my dad and his partner. I was stuck on the sofa bed in the lounge (1 bed holiday flat) and I opened my eyes at 2am to his partner tiptoeing across the lounge going for a wee completely starkers. An image that 30 years later is still burned into my memory. There was nothing weird about her 😂 but I guess she was just too lazy to get dressed and thought she’d chance it. I don’t think she noticed me awake or if she did, she pretended she didn’t, and we will both take it to our graves. 🤣

And there's where I'd care! It's no longer a preference whilst sleeping, it's just edged into exhibitionism.

No, I would not be happy for him to walk to the shared bathroom naked, he can cover up for that. I'd leave a spare dressing gown in his room for him to use, and if he didn't he wouldn't be getting invited back.

MariaMoo · 27/10/2026 19:30

Yep, he won’t be getting any clothes on if he needs the bathroom!

RedSpotTeaPot · 27/10/2026 19:30

OP I remember your other recent thread.

The one about the family member in staying in your house with her 70 year old DH. You weren't liking him them because he 'doesn't flush the toilet after no 1 doesn't wash hands after going to the toilet and spits in the sink'.

This is all a bit odd now isn't it?

MeowDoku · 27/10/2026 19:33

My dad sleeps naked I only know because he told me. Once when I was still living at home I went out with friends, I was staying out over night and my dad knew this, my brother was at his girlfriend's for the night, I popped home around 10pm on the way to a party to pick something up I'd forgotten and my friend who was driving needed the loo, my dad was in there I grabbed the jacket I wanted and waited a few minutes, he still didn't come out so I knocked and it transpired thinking me and my brother were out for the night he'd run to the loo naked and now couldn't come out because me and my friend were in the house! I grabbed him a towel and passed it through the door.
I think it's perfectly normal to sleep naked but not walk around the house naked with children or anyone other than a partner present

InjuredDuck · 27/10/2026 19:46

Does he walk around naked in someone else's house?

LBFseBrom · 27/10/2026 19:47

If you and kids aren't going into his bedroom while he's in it, what's the problem?

Myli1 · 27/10/2026 19:48

I’m confused. How else would you sleep? I assume taking your clothes off before going to bed is the customary norm?

That is highly inappropriate. How grim.

Ilovelurchers · 27/10/2026 19:49

I think when you have an adult staying in a house with kids who is not the kids' relative, it's reasonable to ask them to cover up when they nip to the loo in the night - pull some boxers or jogging bottoms on, or put on a dressing gown. Could you ask your mom to mention it? Surely he wouldn't object to this?

Do the kids get in bed with granny and her partner in the mornings? If so, again you could ask him to stick some boxers on before that happens.

When he is in his room in bed with your mom, what he wears is neither here nor there.

My DH and I always sleep naked, even when visiting family members. But we ensure that we take a robe so that should we need the loo in the night or take a shower in the morning, we're not walking around naked. That's just common courtesy. If your GF is not covering himself up when he's outside his bedroom, then I think you're justified to ask him to do so in your house. Otherwise, if he's just sleeping naked in your guest bed, that's his perrogative.

Elsvieta · 27/10/2026 20:02

Well, if other people can tell her sleeps naked, he's doing it wrong, no? Presumably he puts on a dressing gown if he has to cross the landing for the bathroom or something?

Where do you live?!

I sleep naked including when I'm a guest. As long as I wear a dressing gown to leave my room, what does it matter?

Exactly this.

You think his testicles are so heavy that he may do himself an injury heaving them around?

ilovepixie · 27/10/2026 20:05

I sleep naked. Obviously if I am staying in someone’s house I put something on before leaving the room, and I don’t prance around the room naked but if I’m in bed there’s no problem I can see.
