What are your opinions on a guest sleeping naked in someone else's house?

I'm talking here about a male, late 60s to early 70s, who always sleeps naked and this includes when being a guest in someone's home.
Also, would you be comfortable letting you DC visit and sleep in the same house with this man (he is granny's husband)?

OP posts:
Toodarktooearly · 28/10/2026 06:21

My husband and I always sleep naked. Except when the grandkids stay over then he wears boxers and I wear a nightdress just in case of nocturnal visitors or emergencies. Same if we stay over at theirs as early visitors climbing into bed with you all sleepy and snuggly is the best.

I’m really curious - people who are adamant they must sleep naked and have kids. Do you make your kids sleep naked too?!

Can’t imagine not putting my kids in pyjamas especially in winter?!

Awkwardisfunny · 27/10/2026 22:03

That needed to be the focus of your OP!! No one cares how you sleep but obviously walking around naked with children in the house (or any guests) is unacceptable!

But how else would she know he sleeps naked? I inferred from the post that she must have seen him at some point otherwise why bother posting.

Namechangewegovyjune26 · 28/10/2026 06:45

OP no way would I let my kids stay there, if he can’t show good enough judgement to cover up when staying at someone’s house I just couldn’t trust it. Either he’s clueless/selfish or he gets off on it 🤢

“Would you like some PJs for your Christmas present, Bob?”
”No thanks, I don’t wear anything when I sleep”

SheilaFentiman · 28/10/2026 06:56

However, we wait to see if OP will return.

EdithBond · 28/10/2026 06:59

Fine to sleep naked.

Not fine to leave the bedroom naked if you have guests or you are a guest.

Also best to wear something if kids (other than your own) might come into your room/bed.

HatethedarknightsQW · 28/10/2026 07:08

My DH now sleeps in pants in other people’s houses after sleepwalking naked into my friends room while staying at theirs. Their laughter woke him up. I was mortified at breakfast, he just styled it out.

Her mum (his wife) told her?

FlatCatYellowMat · 28/10/2026 07:16

My parents used to sleep naked when I was a child, I've no idea if they do now when visiting me or when I'm visiting them. It never occurred to me to think about it.

Having said that, and because this man is unrelated to you and your children, is there a reason you're feeling this is 'off'? If so, stick with your gut about it and protect your kids.

Why would they/I? What a strange question.
It's not a lifestyle choice such as veganism or a religious belief. I don't feel comfortable sleeping in clothing, but why would I force someone else to sleep naked?

SailorMars7 · 26/10/2026 16:33

I suppose it's the walking around naked outside the room that bothers me. Like going to the toilet without covering up

Edited

And there it is. All the posters going how weird, how else would you sleep etc. The real question was how does OP know - she knows because he is walking around naked outside the room.

@SailorMars7 No, I wouldn't send my daughter there alone.

OneHazelBird · 28/10/2026 07:59

I sleep naked.

If I am a guest in someone’s home, the least I’ll do is wear a bra and underwear.

I wouldn’t dream of sleeping naked in someone else’s home, especially with kids there.

And I definitely wouldn’t walk around naked or in my underwear.

Myli1 · 28/10/2026 09:09

OneHazelBird · 27/10/2026 20:37

Surely you wouldn’t be having sex if you were a guest in someone else’s home anyway??

Why? Is having sex outside of your own bedroom prohibited?

Pickles2306 · 28/10/2026 09:13

Hope he has an en suite so no fear of meeting him in the corridor at 3am!

Myli1 · 28/10/2026 09:16

tellmesomethingtrue · 28/10/2026 02:09

Skid marks and pubes in the sheets. Gross.

Why? Do you think naked people wash less than clothed people? And no-one has pubes anymore do they?

Myli1 · 28/10/2026 09:17

CrazyMidget · 28/10/2026 02:17

As long as he puts some clothes on before leaving the bedroom, it's fine. How do you even know he sleeps naked?

I think people who sleep naked are weird. There's all kinds of microscopic poo and wee particles that get onto your bedclothes, not to mention all the sweat. It's just unhygienic. And people who sleep naked are always keen to tell you; it's like they're declaring how wild and free they are. I just think they're odd and that their bedding is full of pubic hair.

Nobody has pubic hair anymore do they? It’s not the 1970s.

How else would she know if he didn’t “tromp around” naked?!

She said he leaves the room naked so that’s the real issue.

“She said he leaves the room naked so that’s the real issue.”!
No, she hasn’t.

Yes, she has, in her second post.

OP, you're posting on Mumsnet; you may remember the ghastly thread about poo crumbs. Is this what you're worried about? I would be.

Although she hasn’t actually confirmed that he does that - it’s unclear from her post whether she’s actually seen him do this, or just assumes that he must.

I asked her to clarify, and she hasn’t answered.

Ah, ok. I assumed since she said it bothered her she had seen him/knew that he did do this!

I am not sure if OP will be back though.

notapizzaeater · 28/10/2026 10:22

I sleep almost naked but take a long t shirt with me to sling on if I need to go to the bathroom, just ask them to do that.

ThatLemonScroller · 28/10/2026 10:32

I always sleep naked wherever I am and I consider myself totally safe and normal.
I've never been asked to sleep with clothes on.
Quite a weird idea to have issues with this.
If said person displays his nakedness outside the bedroom then that is a potential problem.
