What exactly is a trombolees to you?

You know, your lovers got no money, but he’s got his trombolees.
For me, it’s clearly a big musical instrument from the brass section. My son is convinced it’s a swishy cloak. This argument is coming to define our weekend.

I always thought part of that was 'Don't give up on a signpost' - it's 'Don't give up on us, I know.

I think Grin.

I assumed @CurlewKate’s friend meant the ‘don’t give up on us baby’ part, but you have reminded me that the line you refer to, I sung as ‘don’t give up on this high note’

See, that makes sense too.

No it's a reinforced briefcase, strong valise.

Brilliant!

@Borededyou sound fun.

I heard myself as soon as I wrote it 🫣

In my defence I’m watching the match and getting beat so I’m in a bad mood 🤣

MyFavouriteGame · 18/10/2026 15:03

I wonder why trombolees playing purifies your mind and senses when it was clearly thought of as black magic in the 16th century. Times have changed.

BlindGuyMcSqueezy · 18/10/2026 15:08

The poor man can’t even play his Trombolese. As she sings in the second verse ‘my love has got no face’.

It’s dreadfully sad all round 😔

Shodan · 18/10/2026 15:36

Of course it could be 'Strongbow knees'.

Which is what you get after a few too many pints at the disco.

AmyDudley · 18/10/2026 16:01

It's difficult to find a trombolees teacher these days, and they are expensive. I was trying to get lessons for my boyfriend and mentioned to the teacher that although we were short of cash he did have his own instrument, but she wasn't prepared to do business.

No wonder it's a dying art.

IButtleSir · 18/10/2026 16:34

Sorry if this has already been said, but I always thought it was a small trampoline.

Notbuiltforheat · 18/10/2026 16:37

Not read all of it but I can state with some confidence that these are friends of Macca Pacca. They all live together in a house like a termite mound.

Deadringer · 18/10/2026 17:16

Its a trombone sized Penis. Next best thing to having money.

dustysidetable · 18/10/2026 17:18

I always thought it was a tiny trombone

Fortyfirstelephant · 18/10/2026 17:23

Heading off to set up a trombolees shop, big money to be made here!

BackStabbeth · 18/10/2026 17:44

Sousaphone esque I think, large and loud 🤣

Shineonyoucrazy · 18/10/2026 18:15

A Tromboleese is a smaller and higher pitched version of a Trombone. Also called a Soprano Trombone.

Ezzee · 18/10/2026 18:23

I always though a trombolees * *was like a tram in Chicago, he could just bugger off on a jolly!

Now, this is just filth...

I genuinely thought that was the lyrics for years.

Covidwoes · 18/10/2026 20:17

Well, he ain’t got no money, but his tromboleese must be something of value/enticing, as she is happy to be with him because of it. I can definitely picture something large and golden. Thread of the week
OP! 😁

userpere9083 · 18/10/2026 20:19

It's Trombone Lease.
It's a rental agreement for a large brass instrument.
Surprised you need to ask.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 18/10/2026 11:07

Ah, David Soul, memory unlocked!

I’m old too.

I still feel a bit sorry for him-he genuinely thought his acting would kick start his real career as a singer. Wrong!!!!

likelysuspect · 18/10/2026 20:42

I thought it was trombalees?

Strong beliefs?

I thought it was trombalees and the woman was on drugs. I had no idea what a trombalees was.

Littlefish · 18/10/2026 20:54

It’s not ‘trombolees’. Everyone knows it’s ‘jungle briefs’.

as in ‘he’s got his jungle briefs’.
