What exactly is a trombolees to you?

You know, your lovers got no money, but he’s got his trombolees.
For me, it’s clearly a big musical instrument from the brass section. My son is convinced it’s a swishy cloak. This argument is coming to define our weekend.

Not a big instrument; a small one. A miniature trombone.

Notanotherrestructure · 18/10/2026 10:33

Something from ‘In the Night Garden’?

Completely agree with you OP - a brass instrument, larger than a trombone.

Obviously, if it was smaller it was be a trombolette.

Its clearly a dessert.

somewhere between a tiramisu and a Swiss roll

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 18/10/2026 10:35

Definitely big brass instrument, how could it be a cloak?

Trombolette is the midsize one, halfway between trombone and trombolese.

Redheadedstepchild · 18/10/2026 10:36

He lives on Stromboli.

Gala was an Italian singer. So, although he has no money, he lives on a beautiful volcanic island. See? It all makes sense.

Trombolette is the midsize one, halfway between trombone and trombolese.

In ancient books it describes how some people can play all three, but no one has ever met them.

Some people go trekking every year in search of this mysterious tribe, but no one has ever returned.

No no no.

1 is a trombolette
2 is a trombone
And 3 is the much valued trombolees

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/10/2026 10:39

Isn't it what the people are called who come from the country of Trombole?

StasisMom · 18/10/2026 10:40

It’s actually a strombolees which is a particular type of trombolees. Did you not go to school?!

Yes, you might be onto something there- it would be the name for their language too.

Although there doesn’t seem to be a standardised spelling on the thread so the -ese suffix might not be correct 😕

ImWearingPantaloons · 18/10/2026 10:41

It’s a huge brass instrument. Bigger than a tuba….

Yeah the mystical tribe that no one quite knows where it is, hence why people go missing. It’s sad but they know what they’re taking on.

And people just want more and more freedom, and love.

AuroraBloom · 18/10/2026 10:44

It's a tiny Trombone.

JasmineMac · 18/10/2026 10:46

Like a banjo. Or something he needs to get some cream for.

ScarlettOYara · 18/10/2026 10:50

It's a misheard lyric from a song.
It should be "he's got his strong beliefs".

No, it’s smaller and doesn’t have to be dismantled for transporting.

Someone remove the fun sponge from the conversation.

It's a travelling salesperson case, an antique leather one, that opens out to share the wares he sells (maybe in little old glass bottles). The case has metal details on the corners, think probably on little old wheels. He's got no money, but with his trombolese and a lot of hard work he'll support himself and make something of himself one day.i think the trombolese is a specific subgenre of a valise/case
(I do also buy into the brass instrument idea though!)

MostlyGhostly · 18/10/2026 10:53

It’s not a musical instrument. Trombolees are weird little insect things, bigger than an ant but smaller than a beetle with tails like tadpoles. They are kept as pets in a tank. My lover feeds them daily and cleans them out once a month. I’m not sure what they eat but I think it’s tiny pieces of bread and the odd bran flake.

Sorry! I retract that 🙏🏼
I really meant to say that it's a small car component which creates that scratching sound when you quite justifiably go up on the kerb.
Apologies 💐

I would definite guess at musical instrument, and that’s brilliant!

But you know it’s strong beliefs right?

Oh, dont spoil it😂

I never gave it much thought, only that it was actually trombolees being sung, and maybe that he's got troublesGrin

Great post!
