You know, your lovers got no money, but he’s got his trombolees.
For me, it’s clearly a big musical instrument from the brass section. My son is convinced it’s a swishy cloak. This argument is coming to define our weekend.

A medium sized brass/woodwind combo instrument. I always thought it would be spelled trombelise.

I could understand the attraction of a man who could play a musical instrument brilliantly but I’d need more details on the strong beliefs 😆

Or Abba; "when I saw you last night in Tesco"

Yes!

And another ABBA lyric: "the beat of the tangerine."

Also Queen: "stupid horse" not troubadours.

Foundress · 18/10/2026 12:12

Ah trombolees. I always thought it was a euphemism for the male genitalia. As in ‘oh bloody hell he has been hit in the trombolees’. Excellent thread @Dabralor Pah! To the ‘strong beliefs’ theory. As if😂.

flowflex · 18/10/2026 12:13

Strombolis! (Sandwiches...)

Foundress · 18/10/2026 12:13

Yes definitely@LlestriBran certain strong beliefs could be a red flag 🚩

I like this one 😄
but I think with your interpretation the spelling would be trombolies, as in similar to goolies.

Nah, it’s not a musical instrument it’s a gardening implement. To help plant big shrubs or trees. It has two spade like elements with hinged long handles and a ratchet, like from that cow birthing aid thingy (where you rope the calves legs and ratchet pull it out).

Disclaimer: I am neither a gardener or a farmer.

Really? It doesn't show 😉

QiBengong · 18/10/2026 12:32

Are you guys all hearing it wrong?
He is clearly a pizza lover and prioritizes his Stromboli over any fame, power or financial security

Have you tried the Crosta Mollica Stromboli! Yum!

QiBengong · 18/10/2026 12:34

I didnt say I wasnt sympathetic to his views...
More sympathetic than I would be to a trombone player anyway

olivepicanto · 18/10/2026 12:34

Definitely an instrument. Like a trombone but bigger

honeylulu · 18/10/2026 12:36

My sister and I always heard it as "stromboleese". I envisaged it as a large trombone with a stringed arrangement also attached, like a Jews Harp (I hope that's still an acceptable term) I think because "strom" suggests an element of strumming. I imagine that it would be impossible to actually play, even if someone created it.

NovaF · 18/10/2026 12:41

Her love has got no money, he’s got his strong beliefs, he’s got no money, power or fame, and has so little money she sings it twice. Her love sounds like a brokey cocklodgerrrrrr

I'm with you too op. Weirdly though not really like a trombone but really big more like a sousaphone.

At a push maybe some kind of trampoline. But definitely not a cloak.

Ditto, it's clearly a sousaphone

Wasn't she that rock singer from the 70s?. American, wore a lot of leather?

You are thinking of 1 member of the quartet Quatrophone.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 18/10/2026 12:53

It’s spelt trombolisse and it’s a little French trombone, obviously! 😂

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 18/10/2026 12:53

See, I always heard it as "Stromboli", which I always imagined as some kind of Italian pasta dish.

Edit: And according to a quick Google it actually is!
