What exactly is a trombolees to you?

You know, your lovers got no money, but he’s got his trombolees.
For me, it’s clearly a big musical instrument from the brass section. My son is convinced it’s a swishy cloak. This argument is coming to define our weekend.

I also thought it was a large instrument so I just asked dc what is a trombolese.

dc 10 - is it an instrument?
dc 8 - a donut with a face.

DetectiveDouche · 18/10/2026 11:30

I've always imagined him actually busking on a corner with his big shiny tromboleese resting on a scrunched up coat on the ground. So actually, I think mine may be string instrument but very large and impressive in stature. Like a cello...but with a trumpet section....

I also sometimes wonder where this down on his luck chap got educated in the playing of this instrument? Maybe cast out of his 'old money' family? 🤔

ButtercupYellow26 · 18/10/2026 11:31

Reminds me of Night Garden characters.

Ellie1015 · 18/10/2026 11:31

Agree a brass instrument, that he used for busking to get some money so they were ok with no money due to his trombolese.

Ah, the 90s, when we had neither the means nor inclination to corroborate the lyrics we made up in our heads!

I bet your house smells amazing. They were so much better than the smell of glade plug ins 🤣 I loved those shops with all the dream catchers, incense sticks and floaty dresses

And the bright hair dye colours in tubs!

The other one I use to mishear was ‘I’m the whooooooooooore who had your baby!’ I now realise she was saying ‘I’m the ooooooooooone who had your baby!’

Put your loving hand out baby.

Got a lot to thank genius for. Especially as they just don't do hip-hop now, but pretty much most songs I've searched for. Of course it's only someone else's wotireckon, but still good.

Not a big instrument; a small one. A miniature trombone.

Surely that would be a trombolina?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 18/10/2026 11:43

How have I never seen that YouTube video before? My life may now be complete.

Phoenixfire1988 · 18/10/2026 11:47

This thread has really cheered up my boring Sunday morning 🤣 thank you .
FYI I also imagine it as a massive trombone .

SurferRona · 18/10/2026 11:48

Nah, it’s not a musical instrument it’s a gardening implement. To help plant big shrubs or trees. It has two spade like elements with hinged long handles and a ratchet, like from that cow birthing aid thingy (where you rope the calves legs and ratchet pull it out).

Disclaimer: I am neither a gardener or a farmer.

'Massive trombone' is now something I'm considering as a euphemism! 😳

Or Abba; "when I saw you last night in Tesco"

I realised I typed out ‘trombolese’ instead of trombolees.

Thats because the trombolese is the travel version. It’s easy to mix up the two.

Edited

It’s from the original French actually, so perfectly correct to use Trombolese.

Sorry OP, your son is a fool.

ScarlettOYara · 18/10/2026 10:50

It's a misheard lyric from a song.
It should be "he's got his strong beliefs".

A ridiculous conspiracy theory.

It’s a brass instrument, like a tuba, it should be capitalised, and a combination of the two main spellings here - Tromboloeese.

No, euphemism is a medium-to-low brass instrument pitched in B♭, known for a warm, mellow, and rich tone. Sometimes known as a euphonium.

I thought it was he's got a strong release

SirenScream · 18/10/2026 12:03

I wonder if it could be a language, like worzelese?
