To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

OP posts:
Spidey66 · 20/10/2026 19:06

Avocado, olives, mushy peas

never tried sushi or bubble tea as the concepts don’t appeal.

don’t even know what matchi is

Q2C4 · 21/10/2026 02:24

Anything truffle-infused.

CadiFfan · 21/10/2026 06:31

pavillion1 · 21/10/2026 10:25

Risotto

socialbatteryisdead · 21/10/2026 10:27

Oysters - lumps of snot.

Cadeaukatze · 21/10/2026 17:59

Quacking4it · 18/10/2026 18:23

Percy pigs. Vile.

Haribos. Utter rubbish!

Waitingfordoggo · 21/10/2026 18:17

Yes @Cadeaukatze , Haribo are shite. How have they come to dominate the market? They all taste the same. So dull. Give me proper Jelly Babies any day.

Cadeaukatze · 21/10/2026 18:23

In fact we have just been discussing over dinner how crap most sweets are now especially when they are made vegan. The texture is awful.

HappyNannie · 22/10/2026 18:28

Anything with truffle 🤮

GordanoServices · 22/10/2026 18:30

Matcha, panettone, Nutella, pomegranate seeds

melissasummerfield · 22/10/2026 18:35

Those giant overstuffed loaded cookies that you see at all the farmers market type events - they are so sickly!

also buttercream - i really really hate it 🤣

i love food and sweet stuff by the way, just not overly sickly sweet stuff

Waitingfordoggo · 22/10/2026 19:23

Agree @melissasummerfield , those cookies are absolutely ridiculous. I have a really sweet tooth but those don’t appeal at all- just absolute overkill. There is such a thing as too much sugar in one portion, even for those of us who love sugar!

the80sweregreat · 22/10/2026 20:01

Vegan fruit pastilles are just awful.

EmailsaysOOO · 25/10/2026 13:12

Lentil soup. Just made some, well last night. Boy is it boring..Never again

Weepingwillows12 · 25/10/2026 13:13

Roast dinner, sushi, fish and chips.

PistachioTiramisu · 25/10/2026 13:25

Pasta of any type
Sourdough
Hummus
Lentils
Avocado
Chinese food
Nuts
Sushi
Overnight oats
Bacon - just never has appealed to me

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/10/2026 14:06

I like overnight oats . I really dislike porridge though , nothing could make it edible . I tried in a pot , in a microwave , with milk, with syrup . No. It was unredeemable which is a shame because it is good for you .
DD convinced me to try overnight oats and I did think "how is this going to be improved by being raw?"
But it's lovely . Soya milk and soya yoghurt . Even on its own but better with additions ,

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 17/10/2026 17:04

Matcha - it tastes so bad that it has to be drowned with sugars, and syrups, and anything else, but you can’t escape it at the moment.

Biscoff. They are the cheap shit biscuits you get at ring-road hotel conferences, not a whole flavour on their own.

Brioche buns for burgers. They are breakfast at a push.

Panettone. It’s not cake.

Agree about brioche buns - they disintegrate. Why don't they use ciabatta?

FlorbelaEspanca · 25/10/2026 14:48

Redheadedstepchild · 17/10/2026 17:04

Mashed potato. Everybody seems to have it down as the ultimate comfort food but although I will eat it if offered to me, I really don't care for it. Even the best, most buttery mash.

It's a lot better if it's got cheese in it or browned on top of a cottage pie or even both but really, no thankyou.

I quite like jackets though. Well. I like the skins and butter. The promise of the skin and the distraction of a really generous filling helps me through the mash.

The worst ever mashed potato is the type made with loads of (skimmed) milk and served with an ice cream scoop.

You might like stovies: peel your potatoes and dice them very fine. Then stew them in a mixture of butter and oil until they are soft and melded together. This is quite without the blandness of mashed.

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2026 16:55

Gravy.

You take that back 🤣😂

HappyNannie · 22/10/2026 18:28

Anything with truffle 🤮

Truffle fries…why ruin perfectly good chips with it 🤮

Crikeyalmighty · 25/10/2026 14:54

Pizza- nothing wrong with it but I don’t get people’s obsession at all - I honestly would rather have some good quality bruschetta

sourdough - I would rather just have good quality proper artisan bread or even a standard white sliced liaf for certain things.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/10/2026 14:57

pavillion1 · 21/10/2026 10:25

Risotto

Ah yes I missed this one - savoury porridge - and it’s overpriced stuff too

Crikeyalmighty · 25/10/2026 14:59

FlawlessShiv · 20/10/2026 09:36

Pasta yes! No matter how good it’s seasoned it just doesn’t do it for me.
Avocado
Shrimps
Sushi

Ha ha - I could totally live on all those
