To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

Sushi

Norwaygirl · 17/10/2026 16:51

Carrot cake, it tastes like soil. I would have to be starving to death to eat it.

wafflesmgee · 17/10/2026 16:51

Matcha
eggy bread
egg custard tarts

Oneearringlost · 17/10/2026 16:54

Sushi
Any main dish that mixes savoury with sweet.
Any chocolate pudding/cake
Tofu
Andouiette ( to be fair, I don't think it is overated)
And any milk based puddings

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2026 16:55

Gravy.

Mumsntfan1 · 17/10/2026 17:00

Depends on how the pasta is served. Do you find rice or potatoes 'bland and boring' or a part of the meal?

Gingerkittykat · 17/10/2026 17:00

Roast potatoes, I can't stand them.

No actually I don’t. (Love rice and potatoes even on their own) I’ve never found a pasta dish I actually thought tasted nice

Matcha - it tastes so bad that it has to be drowned with sugars, and syrups, and anything else, but you can’t escape it at the moment.

Biscoff. They are the cheap shit biscuits you get at ring-road hotel conferences, not a whole flavour on their own.

Brioche buns for burgers. They are breakfast at a push.

Panettone. It’s not cake.

Redheadedstepchild · 17/10/2026 17:04

Mashed potato. Everybody seems to have it down as the ultimate comfort food but although I will eat it if offered to me, I really don't care for it. Even the best, most buttery mash.

It's a lot better if it's got cheese in it or browned on top of a cottage pie or even both but really, no thankyou.

I quite like jackets though. Well. I like the skins and butter. The promise of the skin and the distraction of a really generous filling helps me through the mash.

The worst ever mashed potato is the type made with loads of (skimmed) milk and served with an ice cream scoop.

ILoveKits · 17/10/2026 17:04

Lentils.

Leeds157 · 17/10/2026 17:06

Matcha

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/10/2026 17:13

Matcha here too !
I was on holiday , looked at the dessers ...oh look a tiramisu <pleased>

Bloody Matcha Tiramisu .
It has no business muscling in on a tiramisu ,

I'm fine with salted caramel that is everywhere though.

Portmore · 17/10/2026 17:15

Pistachio, Matcha, elderflower, Salted caramel, energy drinks, oat milk

Sally2791 · 17/10/2026 17:17

Pasta,coffee, bagels

Imicola · 17/10/2026 17:17

Agree on matcha, it is grim.

Anything with 'dirty' in the name.

"Bakes" which consist of overly sweet pre made UPF confectionary/biscuits mixed into cheap chocolate or some other stuff to bind it into a slab of sugary hell.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 17/10/2026 17:18

Truffle

AuroraBloom · 17/10/2026 17:18

Sourdough bread.

Gives me stomach ache!

PoliteSquid · 17/10/2026 17:25

Steak! No idea why, I just don’t like it.

My BIL went to massive effort to get the very best quality meat one Christmas - thankfully I knew in advance and told him not to waste it on me.

Davros · 17/10/2026 17:26

I agree with pasta and sourdough bread
