To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

Sushi. It tastes like exactly what it is —-bait to for fishing.

maxslice · 18/10/2026 17:40

Salmon.

Giggorata · 18/10/2026 17:42

Anything derived from goats' milk. Bleeaagh. It just tastes of goat.

Unpasteurised cows' milk. It just tastes of cow.

Agree about steak. It sits heavily on me, too.

Chili. Too hot and obliterates the flavour of everything, and it's everywhere now, in pub food, ready meals and takeaways. I suppose that's the gods' way of telling me to bloody well cook from scratch.

Asparagus
Elderflower flavoured anything
Some things I simply have not eaten nor would I .

Supersares · 18/10/2026 17:51

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 18/10/2026 17:58

YES!!

Forgot this from me extensive but clearly not exhausted list!

They are a total waste of bland space!

You can put flavourings in them. And the fat you cook them with matters. You can put herbs and mustard in etc.

gingercat02 · 18/10/2026 18:03

Plain boiled rice, just a carrier for the sauce.

knor · 18/10/2026 18:20

Matcha 100% (seen lots of these so definitely in agreement.)

hot honey - I don’t hate it but it’s overrated and doesn’t need to be on everything

Learnergranny · 18/10/2026 18:20

Caviar

TinyGingerCat · 18/10/2026 18:21

Bananas - they taste disgusting and the texture makes me feel sick. The banana bread obsession in lock down gave me the ick (I do make dab sourdough though which clearly will give some pp the rage).

Quacking4it · 18/10/2026 18:23

Percy pigs. Vile.

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 18:30

Hash browns look the bees knees, but the taste is awful.

Ladygardenerinderby · 18/10/2026 18:36

Tea as an in a cup of tea I really want to like it but I dont get all the hype , even Yorkshire tea which im told is the best to me is just awful give me a good quality coffee any day

BreatheAndFocus · 18/10/2026 18:38

McDonald’s, Domino’s, Bubble Tea, Matcha, anything from Gregg’s, sausage rolls, macaroni cheese - hate it! 🤮

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 18:40

I didn’t get the Gregg’s obsession. They don’t bake the rolls in the shop anymore and the sausage rolls are just greasy. The coffee isn’t too bad , but most of the food is pretty mediocre.

Gengha · 18/10/2026 18:53

Greggs have never been great, but they did used to be better than now. I actually used to love the big softee rolls that they did. Granary roll with savoury cheese. Yum.

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 18:57

I don’t like tinned soup much. The smell gets everywhere and you need a lot of pepper to eat it.
Im sure that tinned soup used to taste nicer.

DinoLil · 18/10/2026 18:57

Avocado

Gengha · 18/10/2026 18:58

LondonLass2026 · 18/10/2026 11:01

Olives.

My mum is convinced no one likes olives, they just say they do to appear refined 😂

I love them, although I didn’t have them til adulthood and it took me a few goes - I didn’t like them when I first tried them but I knew I would for some reason if I persisted.

Poodlesanddoodlesnoodles · 18/10/2026 18:59

Tea, coffee, matcha, panettone, bagels, crumpets, hash browns, cinnamon, parsley, liquorice, breast meat (legs etc are so much tastier).

But love sushi, avocado, sourdough!

Henhipster · 18/10/2026 19:05

Meat. Dairy. Is it really worth such exploitation of another species?

I used to love Baxter’s minestrone but it’s not as nice now

browneyes77 · 18/10/2026 19:15

Quiche.

Looks like someone threw up in a dish and cooked it.

Never understood the fascination with it.
