To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

Pistachio (why is it everywhere now!), avocado, mayonnaise and Biscoff (grainy and tastes like wet sand!).

Partyatno10 · 18/10/2026 19:17

Avocado tastes of nothing and either too ripe or too mushy.
Sourdough aka fizzy gone off milk tasting bread, no thanks.
Also hate parsnips, they taste like earwax.
Jelly/trifle is grim.

My mum is convinced no one likes olives, they just say they do to appear refined 😂

I love them, although I didn’t have them til adulthood and it took me a few goes - I didn’t like them when I first tried them but I knew I would for some reason if I persisted.

I was told that if you eat olives eight separate times, you'll grow to like them, so I tried it and it's actually true! Love them now.

Don't know if it works with other foods.

deste · 18/10/2026 20:11

Avacados, watermelon.

JulesJules · 18/10/2026 20:16

Tofu - like dirty washing up sponge
Brioche buns for burgers - they're sweet, it's inappropriate
Mushrooms - I'm vegetarian, so the option is often mushroom something or other, bleurgh, disgusting smell, taste, texture, whole concept

Try it with tripe to give that theory the ultimate proof required to see if it works.😁

Sourdough! Rock hard and tasteless! Also avocado on anything, the only thing it's fit for is home made only, guacamole! Otherwise it's just soapy and again, tasteless!

Gengha · 18/10/2026 20:45

I love Biscoff biscuits always have (must be my Belgian genes) with coffee but don’t understand why it’s now everywhere and in everything

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 20:47

Those biscoffe toblerone ones are awful.

They're not what they used to be (nothing is). They used to be lovely. I could easily do 4 in a sitting 15 years ago.
All the juice and joy has gone out of them now.

The bake at home Greggs sausage rolls from Iceland are like Greggs sausage rolls used to be! The difference between those and the ones you bake yourself is remarkable! I'll only get those from Iceland now! I think they sit too long in the store. They aren't allowed to serve them hot and I think that's half the problem.

I'm no great lover of pasta either, it's tasteless. And I actually find most Italian food pretty boring too. They use few ingredients and most of them are cheap and common, like onions and garlic and tomatoes. I do object to paying £18 for basically 50p worth of pasta and a tin of passata.

Agree Sourdough makes my mouth really sore and it’s tasteless !

SootysCaravan · 18/10/2026 21:33

Chips- I don’t think they add anything to a meal.
Also pork- the smell alone is enough to turn me green.

Oh this is dangerous information. Thank you!

Helpmechooseausername · 18/10/2026 21:39

Hot drinks.

All of them. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soup...

I hate the nasty way they sloosh around inside me

Cielovista · 18/10/2026 21:43

All these shaving foam type puddings you are offered on holiday.
Avocado- so bland
bacon - yuk
rice pudding- no no no

Spamatemyraisens · 18/10/2026 21:43

Pasta
Most potato unless they are roast potatoes or chips
Ice cream
Egg custard
Set yoghurts
Eggs whites (I only eat the yolk)
Creme brulee
Creme Caramel

I've realised that I don't like "slippy" food!

schtompy · 18/10/2026 21:58

Oysters, caviar, snails and frogs legs

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2026 22:00

Trifle. Absolutely foul. Also cooked fruit. Mushy and just yuck.

Sunbringer · 18/10/2026 22:13

Norwaygirl · 17/10/2026 16:51

Carrot cake, it tastes like soil. I would have to be starving to death to eat it.

We must have been eating different carrot cake

Sunbringer · 18/10/2026 22:13

I agree. And truffle.

To me Biscoff were always the biscuits you got free at the hairdressers or car sales forecourt. They weren’t very nice and I always left them.

TubeScreamer · 18/10/2026 22:16

Anything biscoff
sourdough bread
matcha flavoured food

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/10/2026 22:28

Risotto, in fact most rice dishes other than sushi, rice pudding and egg fried rice.
Chilli unless subtle, but not when it overpowers everything else.
KFC and McDonalds.
Ice cream.
Matcha.
Katsu.
