To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

Cheese. It's milk that has gone off, tastes like sick and has a weird texture
The only exception is halloumi which is acceptable at times

BriarTime · 17/10/2026 20:04

Dubai chocolate was all the rage for a while there. Mediocre stuff with a dubiously-coloured paste inside.

Salted caramel. Nothing seems to have just regular caramel anymore.

Coffee chain coffees that are basically desserts and not beverages.

Over rated to me means something that gets undeserved praise. Could be anything.
I’d include bananas!

Ugh, bananas. The boomerangs of Satan.

Empress13 · 17/10/2026 20:08

Steak and ice cream don’t care for either

Mushroomstomatoes · 17/10/2026 20:10

I love almost all the foods mentioned here! Except matcha, which I have tried yet.

pizza is overrated. (Still eat it often though ha)

AllaMova · 17/10/2026 20:12

Mushrooms. I loathe mushrooms, which is a shame because I want to like them.

Roast dinners too. My DM would make one every Sunday when I was a child, which she would force me to eat. I’ve never enjoyed them.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2026 20:18

Salted chocolate. I bought some dark salted almond Tony’s Chocolonely because I wanted some dark nutty chocolate and that’s all the Sainsburys local had. It’s not very nice. Well, maybe it’s that brand which is the problem too because the ‘dark’ chocolate is only 51% and the nuts are tiny pieces.
So I’m having to eat too much of it at once to get rid of it.

Salting spoils other things which should be nice like one of the Kind bars.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 17/10/2026 20:26

Potatoes for me. I did go through a phase when I was about 19/20 that I had one a day as I was on a budget and the college sold baked potato and allowed 3 toppings for £1.90... I maybe do wedges for dc once a month and roasts have roasties but I only have 2 small crispy ones. I don't get the fuss - it's a filler not a taster.

Defiantly41 · 17/10/2026 20:37

Pretty much all fast food - McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, various “pizzas” (nothing like an actual pizza) - all fatty, carby, sugary yuck

labamba007 · 17/10/2026 20:37

Pasta - why is everyone so bonkers about it?! It just doesn’t taste of anything
avocado
turkey - chicken tastes better but I still buy a bloody turkey at Christmas
ice cream

ILoveKits · 17/10/2026 20:45

Take Aways. You have to wait for delivery, warm the plates, dish up, smell it for 12 hours, and then wash up. If I don't want to cook, I prefer to have something low to mid priced out.

Carveries - we can do a better roast at home and don't have to queue for it.

All this hyped up pulled stuff - long cooked cheap cuts that are better at home.

Whole duck - so little meat and so much fat. Boned and stuffed is fine; breasts are fine.

Fancy chutneys in swanky packaging.

ShallIchooseblue · 17/10/2026 20:46

burrata
avocado
chorizo
smoked paprika

CatLovesMeBest · 17/10/2026 20:54

Pizza !

If I only want partially burnt bread, a bit of cheese, tomato paste and a scraping of meat/artichoke/whatever for my dinner, I’ll make myself a toasted sarnie then go to bed and cry from self pity without forking out £15 for the privilege !!!

Ugh, bananas. The boomerangs of Satan.

This made me laugh. I don't like them either.

Lovelydovey · 17/10/2026 21:07

Any form of cooked fruit

Letsgonowthen · 17/10/2026 21:08

Very little _I think most things if cooked well with quality ingredients can be amazing. Like, I've had incredible sushi that was definitely not overrated, terrible sushi and everything in between. The same for bread, pate, curry, lasagne, chocolate cake, pasta etc etc.

I'd say Nandos. Loads of my friends love it but I only go there if I really feel obliged.

sleeppleasesoon · 17/10/2026 21:15

Greggs.
McDonalds.

Hmm, I've read the exam question twice and this isn't just dislikes otherwise I would rattle on about coffee and bananas for hours... it's stuff that is overrated. So 'fancy/gimmicky' stuff surely? Not staple stuff.

In which case I offer you... sun-dried tomatoes. Why would I want to eat a mummified tomato that has given up on life because someone left it the bottom of their gym bag in 1997? I bloody love fresh tomatoes - these bastardised foul, oily scabs bring chewy mouth misery to any meal or cheeseboard they go near.

And if sun-dried tomatoes are a staple for you, I truly hope you get the help you need. I'll donate to your GoFundMe if needs be.

I make this using sun-dried tomatoes and it's delicious.

I wouldn't just eat them plain as a snack or anything.

Chicken Pasta of your dreams!

The chicken pasta recipe of your dreams! A creamy chicken alfredo with sun dried tomato, spinach and bacon, it's a quick 20 minute recipe for all those days when nothing but a creamy pasta will do.

Sushi
Matcha
Caviar

ilovemylogburner · 17/10/2026 21:20

Truffle. Tastes like you’ve eaten the majority of a forest floor and overpowers the taste of anything else in its vicinity. And people pay a fortune for the experience? Baffles me. It’s grim.
Also agree than Panatone is not a cake. It sounds and tastes like something I might put in my printer.

fridaynightzzz · 17/10/2026 21:25

Takeaways - it’s been many many years since I’ve eaten one I’ve enjoyed. Maybe an okay fish and chips.
Fast food.

Im not a snob I just think it’s all crap quality now.

Steak is boring after the first few mouthfuls.

MadMAGA · 17/10/2026 21:28

Sticky toffee pudding. Far too sweet. Bring back apple pie, or even crumble.

happygertie · 17/10/2026 21:29

Anything Truffle

chattyness · 17/10/2026 21:29

Matcha
Sushi
Baked beans - why do people rave about them they are stinky and gross?
chickpeas - bleurgh!
Champagne ...fizzy piss
pulled meat, I can't stand the sight of it, always looks like someone tried to eat it already and then changed their mind and vommed it back into the pot
Dirty anything , just puts me right off the
Blue cheese, it tastes like poison

LathkillDale · 17/10/2026 21:31

Caviar
Basil including pesto
