Hi im posting here due to concerns about a local path way i live near.its a lovely community we have local dog walkers go down the path just a lovely little place for a walk.however we have some lovely cats who have pitched up home there to lol.now there was this one lady walking her dog i was on the bench down the path with 2 of the local cats the lady took the dog of the lead as if she was intitsing it to go for the cats .as i walked back then to leave the path she then does it again and winds tje cats up saying doggy on the lose cats watch out .the cats ran off in fear of this dog being let off the lead now this womans response to all this was"i have to do this or she wll have my arm off and pull me"well im sorry but if the dog can cause that much injury to you what the hell could it do to the poor cats.am i right in wanting to report this to my local council?

She sounds like a nuisance and you sound very concerned about this. Report her if you're worried.

Yes i am ive even looked it up its actually breaking the law.under the amimal creutly act.

Report her then OP.

Flowercandy · 15/10/2026 21:56

Lack of Control & Safety Risks: An owner who claims a dog will "pull her arm off" admits she has no reliable recall or leash control. Letting a high-drive dog loose to chase a cat puts the cat in danger of injury or death, risks the dog running into traffic or getting lost, and can cause a public nuisance or legal liability under animal control laws

What exactly would you be ' reporting ' to your local Council ?
under which by-law / Act of law ?

I think she's complaining about someone exercising their dog. OP, dog welfare societies say most dogs need off-lead exercise for their welfare, and if the woman had a disability, she might well find holding a lead hard.
If she's trying to get them to attack cats, that's a separate issue, but even if someone is exercising their cats there (which is unusual), they'll probably easily be able to get out of its way. So unless there's a ban on dogs wherever this is, she's got as much right to not use a lead as I have not to use reins in my kids.

If you're genuinely worried she's provoking animal cruelty or has a dog about to do something dangerous, report it.

Her delibretly taking the dog of the lead to go and get the cats knowing that shes unable to control it proves that the dog isnt controlled om the extent to what it could do to the cats.if she cant protect herself and is worried about her poor arm then quite frankly other animals are at risk.

I think 'he'll pull my arm out of my socket' is one of those things people say like 'you'll have my eye out' or 'you'll catch your death in that skirt'. They don't literally mean it.

Report it and then you and we can all have peace of mind OP.

Its the fact she found it funny that the dog was chaseing the cats and frieghtning them.whispering say go on go get them.the weird part is its never off the lead the whole time hes with her on the path only time is when thers cats around maybe shes a cat hater but that doesnt make it right .

Did the dog actually catch any of the cats?

AndyouWILLATONE · 15/10/2026 22:04

Just report so you feel better. Nothing will happen to her though.

Mumofyellows · 15/10/2026 22:05

Dogs naturally chase cats and it’s very unlikely they would ever get near them, cats are too quick and clever and can climb and jump. My labs chase cats given half the chance but they’ve never stood a chance of getting to them.
We also have a very bold local cat who jumps out of bushes to pince on the dogs and has come in our house several times though open windows with zero fear.

I am it sure why you think you need to report it to the council? What would you expect them to do exactly?

Whispering is new. This story grows like Topsy every time you add a new post OP.

It's fishy isn't it

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 15/10/2026 22:09

Well I'm Team Cat.

Babswu · 15/10/2026 22:14

She sounds like a genuinely shitty person, anyone who would deliberately set out to injure or kill another persons pet is an arsehole.
You may be able to apply to the council to get a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) put in place making it a fineable offence to have a dog offlead on the path - worth looking into. Otherwise if you see her doing it again try and record her and put her on facebook, see how popular she'll be then.
Seems like the trolls are out tonight with respect to some of the replies to your post, ignore the TWATS.

Flowercandy · 15/10/2026 22:14

Do u all take them off leads when u see a cat then and say go on go get them.

OP posts:
Flowercandy · 15/10/2026 22:14

Arrrrrr maybe its normal then and google is talking rubbish
Do u al collect the cats to when they get them and injure them?

purpleme12 · 15/10/2026 22:15

🙄

Breadcat24 · 15/10/2026 22:16

Could you do anything to deter the dog and protect the cats - such as squirt the dogs (woman) with a water pistol?

Good riddance to disgusting feral cats pooping in everyone’s flower beds. Revolting flea ridden menaces.

ThisZanyCoralShark · 15/10/2026 22:19

I hate cats shitting in my garden. It gets on my wheels and it stinks.

at least my dog is trained to go in a specific spot.
