Beware! Leeds is s***hole

I lived up north and down south and Leeds is a place where people:

  1. offers you poorer service than anywhere else at a higher premium, worst value for money
  2. are lacking of moral values and self respect and gives you the impression that they are b** raised
  3. don't contribute to safer society, simply hopeless

For those who enjoys "back-to-back" properties or Leeds, hope you enjoy the depreciating property price and this city's decaying future. Otherwise I'd hope you'd avoid this s*hole!

@InterestGuardianwhere do you like?

Moscow?

I love Leeds, I only live 15 miles away but DD went there for University and bought her first house in Gledhow.

I wouldn’t want to live in Harehills but there’s loads of great areas and it’s an amazing city. I think the OP was probably out yesterday afternoon and lost her purse on Greek Street which has affected her mood.

Harehills is probably too expensive to buy or rent a long term home with space for kids or even a proper flat rather than a bedsit these days anyway. My brother and his wife lived there for a while before and after marriage, then upgraded to more space and a family member lodger in LS17 after a few years. I'd remortgaged my still only ever own home releasing my mum as guarantor so she was able to help.

I love Leeds 🤷‍♀️

Shinyhappyapple · 12/10/2026 11:08

What’s with the threads dissing towns recently ?

Every town/city has its problems but nobody can be so thick as to think somewhere is all bad with no redeeming features. Round hay is lovely and I’m sure other areas are too.

sunandpeonies · 12/10/2026 11:10

Leeds is huge and very varied in its areas and accent. A huge generalization from you OP.

As a Leodian who lives in leafy Surrey this made me laugh. Maybe I should be jumping out at people more yelling ‘EY UP’. Maybe I should have a ferret accomplice.

BEWARE!

A flat cap and a Whippet for maximum effect please!

This is reminding me, in the dim and distant past, of a Goodies sketch.

Ok… I’m going in people… watch my back….

Why do you hate Leeds so much?
Did you have a bad experience there?
Unless you actually explain what has led to such a loathing of Leeds, we’re not going to know what on earth you’re talking about.

And no, I’ve never been to Leeds but I’m now intrigued after the OP’s vitriol & the rest of the thread.

Respect! That's properly funny and clever. 😂

PS Since I'm here, I'd also like to say that Aberdeen isn't as bad as a lot of people reckon.

I’m a St. James’ Hospital baby myself!
But by that time DDad had made it to Oakwood.
Another place I’d jump at the chance of living in.

We moved to Roundhay when I was 6. Posh or what?!Grin I'm feeling all nostalgic now - Oakwood clock,Roundhay Park,Soldiers' Field...

Sadly I've been exiled in the Midlands for many a year; an area I used to pour scorn on for being neither north nor south. That'll teach me!!

Not sure of the relevance of your reply but have you actually been to Harehills, are you sure you're not confusing it with Horsforth or Headingley?

There's a whole world of difference between Harehills and LS17, with every other area in Leeds somewhere in between. Harehills is scraping the bottom and LS17 right up there at the top. You can buy a four bed terrace in Harehills for £150k, that's the kind of area it is.

That would be interesting if someone brought a house in Harehills after mistaking it for Headingley or Horsforth.

Very different places

Oh no, not ANOTHER thread bashing ANOTHER city.

Hmm

Awful place. Some of them even attach pegs to you when you're not looking!

Isn't it because it has a lot of service industries?

Service from First Direct staff just fabulous.

Ahaha, try Liverpool Grin

You take my favourite city's name out of your filthy mouth. I'm not even from Liverpool but it's a bloody fantastic place. Of course it has rough bits, it's a city. But it's also got a huge amount going for it.

Monty36 · 12/10/2026 13:15

The football fans have a poor reputation with other clubs.
Only been there once I think. Went to Harvey Nicks. £500 for a t shirt !

Very much aware of that, the poster I responded to said that Harehills was out of sale and rental budget for families wanting space and her brother moved from Harehills to LS17, so Moortown, Alwoodley, Shadwell, Harewood etc.

It didn't make sense that Harehills was out of budget but LS17 wasn't, so I asked if she was confused about Harehills, offering Headingley and Horsforth as more expensive H's in north Leeds!

Yes, that posh arcade is definitely one for window shopping only as far as I am concerned!

Well it's closing. Sports direct guy has bought Harvey Nics is closing Leeds, Bristol and Birmingham. Is putting Flannels into Leeds instead.

Conversely, many of the things a woman ain’t sposed to see, I saw in Leeds.

(I love Leeds; spent loads of time there and never had a bad experience.)

I went to Leeds for the first time this week and thought to myself what a shit hole it is! Even the “nice” areas were full of people who had the dodgy vibe about them and walked far to close to me and were a little too interested in my handbag etc and frankly I’ve never felt as vulnerable and at risk of being mugged as i did there! I ended up going home early as i had enough

Are you another that’s mixed up Horsforth and Harehills? If your handbag was getting the side-eye in the Victoria Quarter it probably wasn’t because they wanted to nick it.

LGI for me though my brother was born in Jimmys.

We lived just round the corner from Meanwood Park, Lovely memories.
