Beware! Leeds is s***hole

I lived up north and down south and Leeds is a place where people:

  1. offers you poorer service than anywhere else at a higher premium, worst value for money
  2. are lacking of moral values and self respect and gives you the impression that they are b** raised
  3. don't contribute to safer society, simply hopeless

For those who enjoys "back-to-back" properties or Leeds, hope you enjoy the depreciating property price and this city's decaying future. Otherwise I'd hope you'd avoid this s*hole!

Your splendidly clear and cogent arguments have convinced me, op. First thing tomorrow I'm going to petition to have every mention of Leeds expunged from my birth and marriage certificates, all my educational qualifications and my work history, and I'll do my utmost not to give the impression that I'm "b** raised", whatever the hell that is. Does that make you feel just a little bit better?

Bluecanary23 · 11/10/2026 22:27

A post slating the fine city off Leeds without disparaging our wonderful airport is clearly AI

I grew up and was educated in Leeds and left with a decent grasp of grammar, so there’s that at least. Maybe you should stay a bit longer OP Wink

Me too. And I think Leeds has improved a lot since I lived there!

JazzyAmbs · 11/10/2026 22:37

What is it with city bashing threads at present? There’s also the Birmingham bashing one going on.

JulietteRoche · 11/10/2026 22:37

I've never had the slightest desire to go to Leeds,. If it's anything like Manchester, I reckon OP is correct.

Rainee123 · 11/10/2026 22:37

Leeds is a great city

TheRealSmurfette · 11/10/2026 22:41

Gingernaut · 11/10/2026 22:19

You clearly haven't seen Wolverhampton

Leeds is lovely by comparison

Ha ha ha!

Leeds crumbles.....

Pericombobulations · 11/10/2026 22:45

All I can think of, the OP never went to Bradford. I say that as someone who lived in Bradford for over 10 years, I have some very happy memories of Leeds and Bradford (and yes I was there when there were riots in Bradford).

Leeds has had major rejuvenation in the inner city in recent years and doesnt look much like the city I remember from the 90's, but it does highlight the more run down areas.

Sadly Bradford has suffered more.

But I still have fondness for both and think the OP obviously comes from Manchester!

MyArtfulGreySloth · 11/10/2026 22:48

You’re not wrong OP. It’s funny how people refuse to see how bad the places are that they live. I live in the West Midlands, in a town that’s a total shit hole.

OrdinaryGirl · 11/10/2026 22:56

Is it bun raised? Raised on buns?

This whole thread is giving me LIFE 😍

boxofcrap · 11/10/2026 22:58

So you are on the fence?

MadnessInMyMethod · 11/10/2026 22:58

I go to Leeds quite often and it's fine. It's a great place to buy vintage clothes. I can't say I have noticed the service there being any different from anywhere else.

I've lived in a back to back (not in Leeds) and you couldn't hear a thing from the abutting properties - the walls are very thick because they're old houses. It was much quieter than the 30s semi I lived in next. Huge living rooms and bedrooms but a tiny kitchen and awkward stairs. The main reason we moved is that you only have one aspect in a back to back and ours was east so we never saw the sun after midday which was a bit miserable in summer.

MotherTuckinGenius · 11/10/2026 23:00

Rotherham is a shit hole. Leeds is bloody paradise in comparison.

ClimbingBear · 11/10/2026 23:01

Live Love Leeds

Anyahyacinth · 11/10/2026 23:04

Its a great city with loads of wonderful things happening, great community spirit...I love it

Sunbringer · 11/10/2026 23:05

I’m guessing you live /stayed up in Headingly…. 😂

justasking111 · 11/10/2026 23:06

OP makes one slurred post and vanished hmmm

Anyway DS went to university in Leeds as did his partner. They both work in Leeds now and live in a village outside.

We've had some great visits there. I love the architecture, parks, shopping, restaurants. Yes there are some not so great parts but it's cheap enough to live outside the city and catch a train in.

What I don't enjoy is the odd road system these days.

Sgtmajormummy · 11/10/2026 23:06

Mi Dad we’ born un raised i’ Chapel Allerton.
Mebbe b**raisedGrin.

I’d move there in a heartbeat!

First, they came for Birmingham, and I did not speak out…

😂😂😂

ByDreamyMintNewt · 11/10/2026 23:10

I grew up in Leeds. Moved away a long time ago. It was always a nice city. Some rough patches, like any city really, but some lovely areas too. A good place to grow up as a teenager.

My only complaint would be that I never felt I fit in. My family wasn't from there, just moved for work, and I never picked up the accent - always felt like I was treated as an outsider (largely just because of how I spoke) even after living there for years. A lot of inverse snobbery. Probably why I don't go back still, even though I have other fonder memories.

Nearly50omg · 11/10/2026 23:11

I went to Leeds for the first time this week and thought to myself what a shit hole it is! Even the “nice” areas were full of people who had the dodgy vibe about them and walked far to close to me and were a little too interested in my handbag etc and frankly I’ve never felt as vulnerable and at risk of being mugged as i did there! I ended up going home early as i had enough

Oh I think the days of needing a certain accent are gone with all the students and the way we move around these days. My sons partner has a Calderdale accent and doesn't mind my sons posh accent although her grandad teases him about it

Can I just say , Herne Bay is not my cup of tea , but I know those who really like it. Ach - I'm more of a live and let live person. I'm wishy washy I tell you 😊

@Kelticgold you did make me properly giggle there - thank you .

Jibbee · 11/10/2026 23:20

love the city, the people, the variety in all the suburbs, proximity to incredible countryside, numerous parks within the city, a local airport flying to numerous destinations, fantastic eateries, theatres, great rail links etc etc.
