A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙☕️

We're gearing up for the Burnham budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

There’s a comedy sketch in there somewhere….!

The other self congratulation IG offered up was Burnham buffed up about the £100 site checker crashing. I can’t believe people like his SM love me stuff.

A lot of people vote can be brought for £100.

PurplePinata · 30/10/2026 17:48

I'm amazed at how ignorant and easily pleased labour supporters are. Not those on benefits (who labour fall over themselves to appease), but those who work, pay taxes and don't claim benefits. Labour is like a cult where the followers lose the ability to think for themselves and allow themselves to be controlled by their cult leaders like Burnham. In fact i think Labour is a cult and a very dangerous one at that.

I'm laughing my bollox off at all the Labour MPs expressing shock and dismay on X re Poundland's demise.
Obviously the actual business going under and the job losses are very far from funny.

This new immigrant charity scheme is initially targeting the following war-torn countries; Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya.

Whaaaat?????
Accomdation for how long?
With the Ukrainian scheme a colleague somosored for a (very short) time and then the ‘refugees’ got housing and benefits and left his house so he could be sanctimonious but at minimal effort or expense.

LupaMoonhowl · 30/10/2026 18:05

They should have to commit to provide accommodation and full expenses including for schooling and heath for the entirety of the time the refuge is in the country.

LupaMoonhowl · 30/10/2026 18:06

And that ‘refugee’ should never be allowed to vote.

LupaMoonhowl · 30/10/2026 18:06

Because we know this is all about buying votes.

I'm not sure, but it sounds more like the charities will help them to the taypayer-funded services?
It's a little light on actual financial details, put it that way.

How could they possibly have known that massively increasing the taxes on low margin business would cause them to fail?

38thparallel · 30/10/2026 18:43

My questions are: why are they intent on destroying the country.

Anything that can undermine and eventually overthrow the capitalist system is seen by many Labour MPs as a good thing.
Anything that upsets Tory voters is also a good thing, and the more that Tories and other right wingers complain about high levels of immigration then the more Labour will welcome immigrants.

justasking111 · 30/10/2026 19:32

Well Healey giving Zelensky £10 billion in the budget. Is that why the hostilities resumed after less than two days. A 1000 drones attacked Russia hitting yet another oil refinery. The white house will be disappointed they brokered the ceasefire.

As I understood it, the ceasefire was a very small localised one. But full Credit to the US and Melania Trump for that.

When I read Melania Trump fixed it I kinda lost interest. Same with the middle East, cease-fire just doesn't take

Andy Burnham is under pressure from Red Wall Labour MPs to cut the benefits bill, The Telegraph can reveal.

Senior northern Labour MPs said the Prime Minister would lose the support of their constituents in his attempt to appease the “leafy Surrey suburbs” with minimal welfare reform.

Mr Burnham has failed to commit to bringing down the welfare billbefore the next election and plans to encourage people back into work with job support rather than “crude cuts” to their benefit entitlements.

On Friday, the Prime Minister admitted that his first Budget was not as radical as he had hoped, arguing he had less “room for manoeuvre” because of the war in Iran.

This is full on isn’t it?

The plans to house up to 1,200 male asylum seekers in the village are prompting residents not to enrol their children in the local schools and even to sell up and relocate.

Linton-on-Ouse is the location of one of three former military sites where the Home Office is proposing to house a total of 3,750 asylum seekers.

The 680-acre former flight training school is in the heart of the small village, situated next to the primary school and sharing a border fence with a playground.

Plus the clip of the man with a knife in the sea, it looks like Burnham isn’t out of the woods on this issue yet.

It’s the unavoidable consequence of stopping using hotels and converting government property like airfields instead. You limit the dispersal but you potentially overwhelm small communities.

I can see an argument for what Labour’s doing, not least on cost. But there’s obviously something cynical in it too: putting asylum seekers into the shires suits Labour. Whatever the policy is, though, the sense that none of this should be happening is growing, IMO.

Personally I’d prefer a concerted international effort to reform asylum treaties. But I suspect individual countries will be forced to go it alone first, and then the momentum will build for an overhaul.

The barracks are generally more expensive to convert than using hotels.

It’s more to do with the ‘smash the gangs’ pledge coupled with we’ll stop using hotels. Men (mostly) will still need accommodation so they’ve had to switch to mass accommodation.

I agree with you on some kind of change happening, pressure is mounting generally on that and at some point a western country will vote in change. It won’t be us now as we’re somewhat insulated by the work France do. But either leader in the front running could change that.

OK, I'm moving back to thinking that Andy Burnham is stupid.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/55d4fdb0b4a20ad9

Even the people demanding an apology admit that the entire point of an apology is to give weight to demands for reparations.

"Ralph Gonsalves, the former prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, said an apology would be “insufficient”.

He said: “We are pleased to hear that [Britain] comes into a conversation. But it can’t be a conversation about nothing. It has to be a conversation about something. If they are not going to entertain reparations, what is the conversation about? Nothing.”

But Mr 'Needs to be popular' is going to do it anyway, isn't he?

Pisses me off so much. The UK stopped the slave trade. It cost us thousands of British lives, and took 182 years to pay back the debt it took us to do it. We have nothing to apologise for.

Perhaps we should shift the conversation over to reparations to us. It's more meaningful: given that the debt repayments only finished in 2015, most British people over the age of about 30 have personally contributed to abolishing slavery. Current, living people. Whereas no-one has legally been a slave under UK jurisdiction for over 200 years.

Absolutely.

Also, once you apologise they will
start pushing for more.

An apology is seen as accepting fault.

Or Green party voters who left with Starmer in power? Plus Labour backbenchers.

trying to appeal to GEN Z?

Millennials maybe.

I think Gen Z are a bit more sensible and pragmatic on the whole.

I sometimes wonder whether Millennials will ever stop blaming older generations for long enough to see the damage their own generation is causing.
