A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙☕️

We're gearing up for the Burnham budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame do you mean laundry or decontamination?

I have to admit, I really laughed at that!

Laundry. Washing bedclothes.

Laundry. Washing bedclothes.

Oh, hanging it out in the fallout…. But be sure to bring it in so it doesn’t get darked on 😂.

In cheerful news, the Sycamore Gap tree is showing signs of recovery.

Years ago I made the mistake of questioning the wisdom of an MN prepper who wanted tips on how to do the laundry after a nuclear attack. I got abused.

Brilliant!

I fully intend to get trollied and be done with it.

Laundry be left to its own devices.

Gravy is great on anything.

Butter even more so.

I’m getting really pissed off with the whole stocking up thing.

Now, I will make sure I have what I need, but the way Angela Rayner is going on about the wine and mascara is silly.

She’s more than welcome to joke about this in private, but it really undermines the public message.

Agree, that was a peculiar thing to say. Not sure who she thought would be impressed by that comment.

I'm also not impressed that our prime minister has done gogglebox and LADbible.

I appreciate that not everyone is London based, but check out this nonsense:

It’s totemic of the rot and entry-ism in our institutions.

Why indeed?
Fgs things are tighter than tight financially. People's taxes and council taxes sting. It's genuinely immoral not yo use them for their intended purpose.
Bordering on fraudulent even.

Thank you. I agree. Good on people who keep shining a light on these things.

The BBC keeps bleating for more money, but where id the investigative journalism? It’s just lazy “human interest stories” where they find edge cases and nod along sympathetically.

Thats really bad. JS's column on this in the Times linked below.
Agree that its good to see some investigative journalism. Its becoming a rarity.

£840 million spent on 'social justice'.

Andy Haldane in the Times today issuing a warning for the govt ahead of the budget.

Andy Haldane, a former chief economist at the Bank of England, said he feared the government would deliver a “mañana budget” that deferred the difficult decisions on public spending and “doesn’t speak to the urgency of now”.

@Nuthatch26 looking at it from a PR perspective, LadBible have also had campaign events at the House of Commons so it makes sense to be involved with them I guess…. they do have a major following.

I’ve never seen Gogglebox.

You must be getting ready for some sun, yes?

EasternStandard · 24/10/2026 11:29

I’ve never watched gogglebox either. Thankfully all the noise over Burnham on it has passed me by.

@Nuthatch26not long to go for a well earned lovely break for you.

Haldane is sensible.

I've just been listening on R4 to a discussion about the Jarrow marches - very interesting, but a little unsettling at the end when the presenter said she and others had been to Downing Street as part of the commemoration and were surprised when AB joined them for a chat and was very interested to hear what they had to say.

It makes me wonder if Labour's attack on business and subsequent job losses are part of their grand plan to recreate the same levels of unemployment and poverty experienced by some in the 1930s - because the writing's on the wall if they continue to pursue the policies they've adopted for the past two years.

They have nothing to gain from that though, do they?

TBH, I can't see what they've gained from the way in which they've systematically attacked private and corporate business, and therefore economic growth - which in turn created the rise in unemployment. It just doesn't make sense (to me, at least).

Perhaps it’s just blindness and lack of insight. Being so honed in on the public sector and some of them seeing the private sector as bad and to be rinsed.

You can see similar on here. Labour MPs will reflect the same. Hence McFadden’s frustration.

It’s most puzzling, isn’t it?They can see the damage they are going but they just keep going with it.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 24/10/2026 17:32

I don’t think there’s any mystery or devious plan behind this government’s attitude to business, tax and regulation. They’re simply not the party of business or the marketplace; they’re the party of state provision and intervention.

Labour MPs’ and ministers’ instinctive belief is that business will always be there to allow government to take ever more revenue. Very few Labour Westminster politicians have ever started or managed a business. And when business speaks to them about problems and obstacles Labour is suspicious and presumes it’s special pleading.

That doesn’t stop Labour talking the talk of trade and business of course. But that’s all it is. The party is dominated by people whose only experience is in the public, trade union or third sectors.
