A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙☕️

We're gearing up for the Burnham budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

My dog watched the ITV Reform Documentary and concluded that if that is all a team of 50 undercover reporters could find over the course of a years work than maybe Reform is cleaner than he thought. Labour and the press seem to be pushing him further to the right,.

😂😂

I'll take your dog's word for it. He sounds like a sensible chap.
I haven't watched it (don't intend to) but there has been very little in the media. I've only read things about it on MN - again.

I hope ITV are running a deep dive into all political parties in this way but I doubt they will.

Yes it’s a glib response which is often used.

I was reading about a little girl sadly a victim in 2012 terrorist attack at a Jewish school because I saw a post about songs sung re her perpetrator. I wasn’t sure if it was true so looked it up. Awful and it is the case. Myriam Monsonego. I won’t put more as depressing.

Not all students will be doing this, many will be peaceful, but it’s not something I’d want to see here. Glorifying a perpetrator like that is scary stuff.

On another note I see Healey is trying to switch his party to talk about entrepreneurs. Perhaps SM will update shortly.

Oh have Labour realised that kicking business is bad for the economy? Well I never. The supporters won't like that. Business = BAD.

Good luck Healey trying to get business back on side. That ship sailed at the first budget.

It depends what the context is. It’s a fact that the French go in for street mass disorder more than we do - the farmers, students, yellow vests, etc etc. But that doesn’t excuse it.

And you need to look at what’s behind each riot and confrontation. In the recent French rioting I think the “oh well it’s the French way” line plays down the background and reasons much too far. This was the organised far-left getting ready for insurrection if Le Pen wins next year.

Perhaps the supporters will update when entrepreneurs are good not bad memo goes out ;

But yes what a waste to jobs etc so far.

@DenizenOfAisleOfShameI was a bit vague as too depressing but the song is from a rapper that glorifies a terrorist attack. I think that’s problematic for France and Mélenchon is playing with fire with some of his rousing lines.

I don't bloody believe it my son and wife have three small businesses but between them. HMRC have said we're going to treat it as one business, so kerching for them. Who the hell thought that up sons business is totally separate from wife's and should be taxed as such. They couldn't pull this off if they weren't married.

Wtf?! That's not even how it works, surely? It's not like they treat two salary incomes as one just because people are married. Can they dispute it?

Dispute yes but it's beyond their local accountants so they've had to find a specialist one in an English city.

Too many internet glitches in the last week. First Banks now government. They've been working on a patch, but who leaked the weaknesses so hackers went wild.

Could there come a day when we suddenly have no internet? Whilst, some by necessity, I’m a wide user, part of me would welcome the slower life this would bring. Hey, back to the 70s!

But that isn’t what would happen

…infrastructure would fall apart quite quickly. Scary stuff.

I complained very loudly about being so dependent on the Internet 20 years ago

I kind of understand why they’ve got to do it, but I suppose I would just like more backups in place.

if I could go back in time and uninvent one thing…

justasking111 · 22/10/2026 14:50

Why do you think the government are saying have cash in the house

I know there’d be chaos, but we’ve all got to have a dream.

Don't know if true but on TV earlier someone was saying about how Labour election promise was to reduce energy bills by £300 a year. However currently people are paying £380 more a year instead.

Also that they are charging 70% tax on drilling. That is then put onto the customers bill eventually because it drives up the prices. They only want to produce what we are using at the time. Any over production isn't allow because they don't want us to produce to sell on, this is for environmental reasons. However what happens is we end up buying from abroad because we don't have enough that produces more pollution and cost.

All bad planning and totally illogical it seems

Neverstopwondering · 22/10/2026 21:37

Think there is a prepper thread just to deal with losing internet. Pretty sure I saw a title saying something like that anyway

DancingFerret · 23/10/2026 09:56

Our dependence on the internet was brought home to me last Sunday evening when our router died. Three hours of my life were wasted using Talktalk's chat facility (because they no longer talk to their customers) on my mobile before they agreed to send out an engineer the following day.

The internet, specifically how to protect it against attacks, was also discussed on last night's Question Time, which was relatively sane compared to some episodes. There were no prima donnas and none of the panellists attempted to shout or talk over the others; Wes Streeting and Tom Tugendhat were very cordial to each other and in agreement over the security issues faced by the UK.

I wonder if reality has finally set in and made some politicians realise national security isn't a game?

I’m getting really pissed off with the whole stocking up thing.

Now, I will make sure I have what I need, but the way Angela Rayner is going on about the wine and mascara is silly.

She’s more than welcome to joke about this in private, but it really undermines the public message.

SapphireCasino · 23/10/2026 16:01

@LetMeButterYourParsnips funny you should say that

I had a lovely day yesterday and then made the mistake of coming on here late last night.

The outside world seems pretty normal. Here on MN, it seems like it’s a disaster.
I haven’t been to a supermarket, so I have no idea if they’re full of people stocking up.

I live in a tiny flat, so I’m very limited in what I can do anyway. Unfortunately, my elderly mother refuses to do anything so I can’t store anything there. It really isn’t worth the aggravation of asking. I do need to take some old curtains over there actually so maybe I should just shove a few tins into that bag! But she’s bound to go poking through it and get annoyed.

I also have the complication that I always think disaster is around the corner. I think if you live alone, and you’ve had a couple of major injuries/illness, there’s a level of preparedness that is just normal to me but might cause anxiety in other people?

I can’t work out what’s going on. Finally enough, there’s some really interesting news on that thread. A lot of gets reported is totally useless, but some of that is interesting and good to know.

sorry, this conversation is annoying. You can carry on buttering parsnips. But don’t you prefer gravy…I do. < awaits MN storm of why I shouldn’t put gravy on my parsnips>

I stay away from the prepping threads.

It’s utter madness there, at the same time I do think that government should at least show an united front.

Yeh Ik what you mean, I find it clownish.

And whilst I might add some water to Ocado the whole spend heaps on prepping is irritating too.

SapphireCasino · 23/10/2026 16:40

I saw one that wasn’t on that board… it wasn’t talking about spending a lot of money.

I don’t think I would go to the actual Preppers board. There is probably less fear on there.

There are some separate threads as well.

It’s overwhelming and catastrophising, just too much.

Years ago I made the mistake of questioning the wisdom of an MN prepper who wanted tips on how to do the laundry after a nuclear attack. I got abused.
