I think there was some figures floating around proving that the tax take has reduced?
Random round up from here…
Mum was asking me why other countries seem to be better sorted in terms of the infrastructure for gas, electricity and water. She was thinking is because they pay more tax. But I was thinking that over the years, no government has suggested that it’s the cost of maintaining infrastructure that’s the issue. They all seem to have felt that it was unnecessary. And they’ve obviously made ideological decisions about oil etc - which many of us have been shrieking about for years. And they’ve had plenty of money to waste on things like HS2.
Then we are in a bind because if we did genuinely need an increased tax taken in order to pay for it, nobody would trust them.
I don’t know any of this stuff for sure, and I’ve never lived in any of the European countries that mum was using as a comparison. I understand that France, Germany etc are much better sorted in terms of domestic energy provision.
I know infrastructure is boring, but I’ll be interested if anyone’s got any thoughts.
At least it’s been a quiet weekend. Two terrible film choices for me in a row. Last night, I saw “The Good Liar” with Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. I managed to complete it but it is diabolically bad. Thank goodness I didn’t drag my arse to the cinema to go and see that.
Then this evening I tried to watch something called “12 in a box” - it was billed as Miranda Hart and Katie Wix. Couldn’t even finish it and apparently Miranda’s only in it for five minutes.
Here ends my random round up 😂
