A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙☕️

We're gearing up for the Burnham budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Did she ask about this?

I just don't think Labour MPs being fraudsters is particularly newsworthy. They made the fraudster in chief First Secretary of State.

They squirm like worms on a hook. What a load of nonsense.

I heard Sam Coates this morning suggesting another reason. He said that Red Ed had agreed to Jackdaw months ago, but he wouldn't give the nod while Starmer was still in No.10 as he didn't want Starmer to take the win. (Starmer also wanted to green light Jackdaw).
Miliband wanted to save the glory for Burnham apparently.

Maybe he was part of the Starmer conspiracy? He did get rewarded with a plumb job he is woefully unsuitable for.

But in the same breath he said he had cut spending on digital ID but had spent it on electricity VAT etc. Money isn't saved if you spend it on something else.

Exactly. Money also isn't saved if there was none allocated in the first place. He just spouts nonsense to try and make it stop. Does he really think the public are so thick that we don't understand this stuff?

Plenty of the public are. Just look at the fawning on MN threads from the fanclub.

Oh I think that theory is now beyond any doubt. Same for Healey and his oh so honourable resignation.

True about the fawning. So depressing.

At least he is being scrutinised now. Its been a very long summer.

It was good to see Kemi throwing Andy Haldane's comments at Burnham. 😂

I was cringing for him, that must have stung.

Oh fab I’ll see of that comes up on IG. Andy Haldane made sense, good on her using it.

justasking111 · 21/10/2026 15:47

I'm not underestimating Greenpeace ability to fuck up Jackdaw. They've been successful so far.

I’d treat analysis in the Daily Express with some caution. (And it’s hard to read online. It’s so busy!)

But from what I could gather before the site crashed my browser, a finance guy is warning that France, and consequently the Eurozone, is at risk from debt exposure. As a general observation I’d agree with that.

The trouble with bond calamities is that the warning signs can be late in the day and the meltdown very fast. We may just hear about it after it’s happened. Scary.

Didn't catch pmq was there anything of note said?

Just the normal blah blah.... tories are bad....blah blah. inflation is down to world issues not me....blah blah.... tories are bad.....

He did add "taking a look" at standing charges on energy bills to the forever list of things he is taking a look at. Maybe there might be an announcement for something else changing in 2045.

I didn’t see PMQs either. But to judge by your post the nation was at least spared a heart-rending account of some terrible event from Burnham’s time growing up in the zombie-filled wasteland of Thatcher’s Britain or the appalling iniquity of having to pay a fare on a bus.

And I am sad to hear that he had no passionate announcements about ending the rip off of cheap air fryers or funds for counselling for those with an Agadoo earworm, or some other massive Burnham policy.

😂😂😂 brilliant.

Burnham, answering Kemi about big decisions he had made, a tax cut of 5% VAT on domestic electricity bills, financed by scrapping the planned Digital ID program. Critics—including former Chief Secretary Darren Jones— had previously disputed this, arguing that the Digital ID scheme itself was unfunded and lacked allocated budget in OBR projections. Another blunder by Burnham? Or he thinks we are all thick.

One thing I’ve noticed following lots of French media recently is that they still have lots of intelligent debate programmes on their tv. Not just a once a week Question Time. Lots of lengthy and intelligent discussions with people from all sides and professions. I’ve seen writers, philosophers, politicians etc. The language is not dumbed-down either. One thing everyone seems to agree on is that the recent riots have absolutely no connection with the French Revolution! which all the simplistic “the French love a riot” British people seem to think it does.

Yes it’s a glib response which is often used.

I was reading about a little girl sadly a victim in 2012 terrorist attack at a Jewish school because I saw a post about songs sung re her perpetrator. I wasn’t sure if it was true so looked it up. Awful and it is the case. Myriam Monsonego. I won’t put more as depressing.

Not all students will be doing this, many will be peaceful, but it’s not something I’d want to see here. Glorifying a perpetrator like that is scary stuff.

On another note I see Healey is trying to switch his party to talk about entrepreneurs. Perhaps SM will update shortly.

My dog watched the ITV Reform Documentary and concluded that if that is all a team of 50 undercover reporters could find over the course of a years work than maybe Reform is cleaner than he thought. Labour and the press seem to be pushing him further to the right,.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/10/2026 10:42

Now I’d like them to do one about the Green Party. Both sides of the border for the lolz.
