A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙☕️

We're gearing up for the Burnham budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I really hope that in a few weeks time someone asks him just how many people have been fined.

And yes, also what is he doing about fare dodgers.

Nuthatch26 · 20/10/2026 13:34

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 20/10/2026 13:24

They do next to nothing about fare dodgers let alone people listening to music.

You’d think the money would be better spent enforcing fares - oh wait, nothing’s going to be spent on enforcement against passengers who don’t use headphones anyway, so we’re all good. 👍

Just wait for the notices saying that “it’s a crime (max fine £1000)” to disturb people on public transport, so that Burnham maximises the PR of his stunt. It usually happens like that. He’s tried misleading PR shite already with his ‘urgent’ alert and COBRA meetings. 🙄

Spot on.
They will spend a fortune on window stickers, coming soon to a bus/train/tram near you.

They're already coming up with alternative explanations to the attack on the Australian MP. Just like how Ann Widdecombe’s murder couldn't possibly be politically motivated.

Protection of the narrative or ideological thinking comes before everything else, like logic, facts, empathy etc

Brilliant to watch from a psychology perspective but horrible all the same. Humanity is doomed if these types get control of us all

Good to see some sense.

A former adviser to Andy Burnham has backed the Conservative Party’s plan for the economy, saying it is “better suited” to addressing Britain’s problems.

Andy Haldane said Kemi Badenoch’s pledge to deliver a smaller state and lower taxes offered a more likely path to growth compared with plans for an increase in public spending under Mr Burnham.

Mr Haldane wrote: “The route to growth comes from priming the private sector, not pump-priming the public sector.”

Very good to see some sense. Will Burnham listen though? The majority of Labour seemed really happy with both of Starmer's budgets despite the obvious impact they would have. I'm not sure they care about the economy. Its all about the freebies.

“If you had applied that test to recent Budgets, the majority of whose measures were either too small to be macro-economically significant or outright harmful to private sector sentiment, it would have radically slimmed them and meant fewer policy own-goals,” he said.

Terrifying isn't it. Most worrying is who the far-left are holding the door open for if they get anywhere near power.

As analogies go, that's horrific - but also terrifyingly accurate.

Neverstopwondering · 20/10/2026 14:18

Andy's music on public transport thing will cause bus drivers to get more harassment from passengers for not stopping idiots from playing loud music. However if they try they will possibly get in an unwinable argument and risk verbal abuse or physical harm. Also passengers getting into arguments about it is very likely again risking verbal abuse or physical harm. Basically Andy has found a new way to make are everyday lives more of a hassle. Anyone been on a bus where two people are going at each other loudly or the driver has to stop and wait for police assistance. That is just what you need on way to work or when your kids are with you.

I did think that as I wrote it

Jewish so feel OK with the comparison. Probably wouldn't recommend a non Jew repeating it. Non Jews can come up with their own comparable I am sure

I remember the Canary wankers practically salivating when the Free Speech Union supporters list was doxxed by unhinged TRA “direct action” group Bash Back. They’ve taken their article about it down now, I was going to link.

been following a lot of French news sites on Facebook. Limoges mayor seems to be saying that person responsible for the town hall fire is a member of the ultra left.

He's been named! Hodei Ciarra, already on the police radar for links to far-left extremist groups. And at 34, definitely not a student.

Yes all over French news today. He has a ‘fichier S’ which is when they are under surveillave (!!!!) for terrorism (in his case far-left)

Haldane turned down a top role in the Burnham government so I’m not sure his words will reach them. Having said there’s probably not much tax and spend left in them, but we’ll see.

38thparallel · 20/10/2026 17:41

I hope so too but I doubt they will. There’s a list on X of sentences handed out to rioters and looters who hurt people, damaged buildings and stole stuff, and they’re pretty lenient.

And yet, had the perps been ‘far right’ extremists, well you can guess the rest…

KathleenDarleenDayKnight · 20/10/2026 18:13

I saw that list of sentences. They are zero deterrent at all, so this will keep happening.
Cost aside, what an appalling situation to put the police, shop owners, and ordinary citizens in.

I avoid Burnham’s SM but just reading a thread with his gran plus NCS post I’m amazed at it. It’s on the level of a spoof. Plus dishonest in its implication.

Bizarre that people like that kind of comms.

I’m on that thread. It is incredible that anyone is stupid enough to believe or like any of the maudlin sewage that Burnham sprays around on social media. The fact that there is glaring deceit in his homespun little anecdotes makes it all the more objectionable.

I’ve never thought much of Burnham’s abilities (and I suspect many high-ups in Labour have the same view) but I didn’t think he was as cynical as Starmer. I’m beginning to revise my opinion.

Ikr. I hadn’t come across it before. I really am taken aback at the garbage. And that people say he’s doing well on the ‘socials’.

It does very much seem like restating the bit of his conference speech that lead people to find care home fees would be covered. His Gran would still lose her saving under his proposal as I think it is now understood.
