It is disgusting and disgraceful as is anyome who chooses to watch the execution live on TV.

powershowerforanhour · 09/10/2026 17:05

Will they have a split screen of Hegseth having a wank while watching it? I bet he's going to enjoy the replays, the freak.

Hopefully it'll just be shown to any victim family members who choose to see it but I wouldn't put it past Trump and his pals to broadcast it to all and sundry.

IzzyLeng · 09/10/2026 17:07

Didn’t realise he’s paralysed from the neck down. Are they just going to wheel him into a courtyard on a hospital bed and shoot him in bed?

This is utterly grim, both the manner of death and the live-stream. Hopefully there will be legal challenges, under the laws about cruel and unusual punishment or some such. If not, I would dearly love a group like Anonymous to hack in and stop the streaming. Absolutely disgusting idea.

I think the death penalty by drugs is still the most humane method. With Pike, the people administering it messed it up. That doesn't usually happen. (This is not a blanket approval from me of the death penalty; I have very mixed feelings on that.)

What is unequivoqual evidence?

A video? Deepfaked

DNA? Planted, falsified, irrelevant, lab mix up

Witnessess? Paid or intimidated

Admited guilt? mentally ill, coerced with threats of harm to loved ones, psychologically tortured

Yes there are times when I think we are as sure as we can possibly be sure that someone is guilty, but every single person in prison (in the UK) following a guilty verdict has been found guilty 'beyond resonable doubt'.

And there have still been some pretty significant miscarriages of justices in recent years, despite modern forensics and 21st century technology - and possibly the biggest one yet still to come!!

If you start trying to grade 'levels' of guilt then you make a complete mockery of the justice system.

Megamegablahblah · 09/10/2026 17:14

Out of principle I will never watch this.

There is scientific research that human brains have evolved in complex modern societies to have higher functioning communication capacities. That includes social cues, mirroring etc. No good will come of giving this a public platform.

I'm not in favour of the death penalty anyway. I certainly cannot see why you would be interested to watch this.

Sadly lethal injection seems to be the method that is most likely to go very wrong.

NoodleHorses · 09/10/2026 17:25

Live-streaming an execution is awful. Daesh did that and the world condemned it. Maybe the world should condemn this too. The trump administration are now just beyond belief.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/10/2026 17:28

Anyone read Vernon God Little? It's a satirical book from the early 00s, really funny and won the Man Booker. It was around the time reality tv had taken off and we all thought our standards couldn't get any lower. It tells the story of a death row based reality tv show where the prisoners are on camera 24/7 and the public can vote. Person with the least votes gets the next execution, televised live. Excellent book and a very funny take on elements of US culture, but a black comedy. When I heard about this live steam that's what sprung to mind

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/10/2026 17:31

AcquadiP · 09/10/2026 16:19

Live-streaming an execution is something I would expect from ISIS not from a first world, supposedly civilised, country like the USA. This isn't justice, it's revenge.

Absolutely.

LizzieSiddal · 09/10/2026 17:40

I heard that people opposing this will take legal action as TV stations are legally not allowed to show something like this.
So it’s probably just another fucked up Trump lie.

LoisQ · 09/10/2026 17:43

Spiderx · 09/10/2026 16:55

Oh well, we will have to agree to disagree. His killings were bad but his execution is too.

Why? He doesn't deserve to live at all. He's committed the highest of moral transgressions and will be punished accordingly.

Floopsy · 09/10/2026 17:44

Making death into theatre only satisfies the most sadistic urges in humanity and degrades society to a point where you wonder how a once great nation can come back.

You would think those in the Trump administration would be wary of pushing for such extreme and public punishments for treason/ high crimes.

momtoboys · 09/10/2026 17:44

Lomonald · 09/10/2026 12:22

Probably charge a subscription fee

My DH said the same thing. Anything to line the pockets of the miscreants in charge.

Frannieisnthappy · 09/10/2026 17:47

Made me instantly think of Handmaid's Tale.

I also think this will glorify his death ny people who believe in martydom.

The current world is so confusing; appears normal in one respect - going to work, school, maybe booking a holiday but yet somehow there are people who think that a live firing squad on TV is fine.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 09/10/2026 17:49

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/10/2026 11:55

After the shooting of Charlie Kirk the teenagers I teach could talk of nothing else for ages. Speaking to ex colleagues in other schools it was the same there. They were fascinated by the blood, the gun, the way he moved etc. It was a hot topic for weeks and there was a change in behaviour from some kids who were over stimulated by this. I can imagine how watching an execution is going to have an impact.

Edited

Well yes a lot of left wing people took glee in watching that video; creating freeze shots etc

Sick people everywhere, and the left are just as violent as the right now

They’ve said they’ll stream it, not necessarily on TV?

SeriaMau · 09/10/2026 17:58

SonK · 09/10/2026 12:51

It should become acceptable, perhaps then the rawness and realness of it all will serve as a deterrent for extreme crimes such as murder and torture.

Yes, normalise the rawness and realness of a brutal death, and before long it really won’t seem such a big deal ☹️.

2dogsandabudgie · 09/10/2026 17:58

hourglass2 · 09/10/2026 14:04

Oh well that makes it ok then doesn't it? Hmm ffs

Edited

Where have I said it's ok? But for people to suddenly say they're concerned about children seeing this on line, it makes me wonder whether people are even aware of the stuff already out there, and I don't just mean porn.

SeriaMau · 09/10/2026 18:00

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 09/10/2026 17:50

Not a single one of the streaming services would allow it on their platforms, under their terms of service. It would probably only be shown by Truth Social.

MaryFalmingo · 09/10/2026 18:02

Everyone’s sympathy is of course with the victims. But that doesn’t make execution acceptable.

Is that title correct? The book blurb doesn’t seem to match.

MaryFalmingo · 09/10/2026 18:07

… and women

pookymom · 09/10/2026 10:31

Nothing surprises me anymore with the US.
Aren’t people usually on death row for years? Is his execution going to be fast tracked?

He killed 13 people in 2009, he’s just exhausted the appeals process

Abhannmor · 09/10/2026 18:23

If they can get any lower then rest assured they will. As a nation the USA is regressing very fast. Trump's party will get a drubbing in November. But it will probably just be a hiatus.

It’s all becoming very handmaids tale over there. Pete Hegseth is a monster, Trump is a monster, JD is a Monster. It’s all to show military strength and ‘this is what you get for messing with our military’ and in reality it’s just allowing vigilante justice and those who love guns to take matters into their own hands. I don’t disagree with the death penalty per se if it’s unequivocal evidence etc etc, but this is too far.

Yes! Gilead - the new America
