People will be up in arms but the amount of people who will watch it is off the charts.

You find it disgusting. I don't. Nidal's actions warrant what he's getting. I have no qualms about him passing.

I personally don't see the difference...killing is killing however you dress it up or excuse you use . It definitely is humanity at its lowest , war, murder or execution .

inigomontoyahwillcox · 09/10/2026 15:44

The USA is becoming more like North Korea by the day. I have no words for how despicable this is. Will it be pay-per-view? Will they have adverts that companies pay millions for a la the Superbowl? "This event is sponsored by Pepsi, the NRA and Target."

FFS, I despair.

This thread is about the execution being livestreamed, surely you cannot think that this is an appropriate thing to do.

I never said it was right or wrong. I said it’s bizarre for people to condemn this but not the actions that resulted in the death and serious injury of dozens of people

It stopped executions in 2019 apparently

No, it stopped public executions in 2019. They still carry out hundreds every year in private.

Thedogscollar · 09/10/2026 15:57

Barbaric. Sadly I'm not in the least surprised this has been the decision of this heinous administration.

I could never watch a live stream or an execution at all actually, however to be quite frank, when it comes to cold blooded murderers, I don't care whether they are executed 'humanely' or not - as long as they are wiped off the planet.

Perhaps, it will work as a deterrent for calculative crimes, perhaps not for murder crimes committed during the 'heat of the moment'.

The amount of children tortured and then murderer in the UK by even their parents / carers is enough for me to justify capital punishment, whether it is made into a spectacle or not, I don't care.

Well you should. Because state executions are there to mete out justice, not revenge, so it follows that the method of execution should be as humane and involve as little suffering as possible. Otherwise you are no better than the criminals you are despatching. If this is allowed to go ahead it will signal an irreversible step change in the way society is headed, and it’s not for the better. Justice must be seen to be done, which is why there are witnesses to each execution. It doesn’t need wholesale live-streaming to be verified. It’s barbaric.

ForLimeHiker · 09/10/2026 16:03

It’s all becoming very handmaids tale over there. Pete Hegseth is a monster, Trump is a monster, JD is a Monster. It’s all to show military strength and ‘this is what you get for messing with our military’ and in reality it’s just allowing vigilante justice and those who love guns to take matters into their own hands. I don’t disagree with the death penalty per se if it’s unequivocal evidence etc etc, but this is too far.

I do. Some people can understand there's more nuance to it. Nidals execution is a long time coming

I haven't seen anyone on here minimise or defend what Hasan did, it was abhorrent and he deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

I also do understand why the loved ones of people who have been murdered want the death penalty, well some, not all of them. What I don't understand is the blood lust that comes out on threads like this from people who are not and never have been in that position but think live streaming an execution is somehow a morally laudable act.

Many years ago I saw a documentary about women on death row. Some of them were mothers who had killed the abusers of their children. Worth thinking about that in the context of the death penalty.

Imdunfer · 09/10/2026 16:06

I cannot get my head around how utterly vile it is to live stream this execution, and that's before you take into account that it will be on commercial TV, because they have no other, and the rights to stream it will be auctioned to the highest bidder and the advertising slots will then be auctioned to the highest bidders.

Just when you think the people at the top in the US can't sink any lower ....

This thread is about the US state live streaming an execution. If you start a thread about this man's crimes I can pretty confidently say there will be no-one who doesn't condemn them.

AcquadiP · 09/10/2026 16:19

Live-streaming an execution is something I would expect from ISIS not from a first world, supposedly civilised, country like the USA. This isn't justice, it's revenge.

Anyahyacinth · 09/10/2026 16:23

HangryBrickShark · 09/10/2026 10:46

I don't really care. My sympathy is with the victims of those on death row. People go on about how unfair it is to put people to death, its inhumane, etc, etc.

What about the poor victims that have been raped, mutilated, tortured and everything in between? Young children and babies who are murdered? Teenagers who are violated and tortured?

You are describing the experiences of people on death row.

Maybe listen to the people who work with criminals and how they are formed?

momtoboys · 09/10/2026 16:25

We are currently living in the US. I am ashamed I even live here. Once we get our last two settled, it is back to Ireland we go.

Anyahyacinth · 09/10/2026 16:27

By the administration so concerned about human life pre conception mothers must wait for spontaneous abortion when their fetus dies...or be accused of illegal abortions and more. Funny how respect for life can evaporate away ...it's almost like there is another agenda ...to demonise / disenfranchise certain groups perhaps?

hewasflirtingwithbeverleymacca · 09/10/2026 16:28

The footage of this execution will be banded about for years. And it’s so worrying that children will get access to it. Because there is always someone, like an older sibling or friend who will show it to them. It’s bad enough in films, but to think this is real is very scary. I’d hate to live in a country that promotes this.

NCOneDayOnly · 09/10/2026 16:34

Naunet · 09/10/2026 13:55

Fucking grim. They should go the whole hog and make it pay-per-view.

Absolutely... and then check the hard drives of everyone paying to watch it. But, of course, lots and lots of Americans just love anything to do with sticking it to anyone - be it a burglar, a terrorist or an innocent bystander opposing the stasi that is ICE.

Skodacool · 09/10/2026 16:44

pookymom · 09/10/2026 10:31

Nothing surprises me anymore with the US.
Aren’t people usually on death row for years? Is his execution going to be fast tracked?

Might be different because it’s military, he was convicted by a court martial.

Mumtotornadoes · 09/10/2026 16:44

It's America, they're barbarians. Yeah its horrific, but it's not in the least bit surprising.

CrazyMidget · 09/10/2026 16:45

This is utterly grim, both the manner of death and the live-stream. Hopefully there will be legal challenges, under the laws about cruel and unusual punishment or some such. If not, I would dearly love a group like Anonymous to hack in and stop the streaming. Absolutely disgusting idea.

I think the death penalty by drugs is still the most humane method. With Pike, the people administering it messed it up. That doesn't usually happen. (This is not a blanket approval from me of the death penalty; I have very mixed feelings on that.)

Zimunya · 09/10/2026 10:56

A friend of mine was very anti the death penalty, until her grandmother was murdered. After that she changed her mind. She said that the thought of her taxes going every month to feed and shelter the person who had murdered her grandmother in cold blood was horrendous. I can see both points of view.

I can see a personal connection might change feelings on DP, but live streaming ANY death feels abhorrent to me. It reminds me of extremists live executing captives. No legitimate government should do it.

It's not going to be a good look either. The prisoner is paralysed from the waist down. Let's all watch a paralysed guy be shot to death for fun shall we? How is that helping anyone?

Eristealviper · 09/10/2026 16:52

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 09/10/2026 13:05

Who was the very child who was abused and raped that you say you want to protect?

Pike requested specifically to be executed by a(n all female) firing squad.

Oh well, we will have to agree to disagree. His killings were bad but his execution is too.
