Seems very human to me unfortunately. Perhaps a firing squad could be less painful than a botched lethal injection? But this man is a colossal idiot and should never have attained any position of power.

EmmaOvary · 09/10/2026 10:28

The death penalty is bad enough without live-streaming it. Barbaric, but unsurprising from this administration. Hegseth was practically drooling as he described it.

Hedgerowmanager · 09/10/2026 10:30

This a barbarian.

Both, the death sentence and the livestream.

Wasn't he just ! He acts like he is playing a real life video game. Are they going to live stream on Fox news at 1 ?

pookymom · 09/10/2026 10:31

Nothing surprises me anymore with the US.
Aren’t people usually on death row for years? Is his execution going to be fast tracked?

Purpledaisybug · 09/10/2026 10:37

I strongly suspect that if the perpetrator was white they wouldn't feel the need to livestream it.

HangryBrickShark · 09/10/2026 10:46

I don't really care. My sympathy is with the victims of those on death row. People go on about how unfair it is to put people to death, its inhumane, etc, etc.

What about the poor victims that have been raped, mutilated, tortured and everything in between? Young children and babies who are murdered? Teenagers who are violated and tortured?

The US is currently a joke country. Hope the grown ups get voted back in soon.

So you want to kill people because you think killing people is wrong?

Live by the sword ...

Killing people is only wrong if you kill first. If you choose to live beyond societal norms that's the risk you take.

Spicysenorita · 09/10/2026 10:52

This is what they should have done to the Pike woman recently.

It’s not about sympathy for the perpetrator. It’s about live streaming an execution for entertainment value. Do you really want to live in a world where that is seen as acceptable? I couldn’t care less about murderers either, but I don’t believe for a second something like this should be made into a spectacle for the masses.

As a side note, I find the hypocrisy of the USA sickening. They stand in judgement of other countries, throwing their weight around, criticising and acting like the saviours of the world/like they’re in a movie “saving the day”, and yet they are just as backwards as the countries in the Middle East that they condemn. And it’s worse in a lot of ways because they believe themselves as a country to be so forward thinking and progressive. They’re an utter joke as a nation.

Zimunya · 09/10/2026 10:56

A friend of mine was very anti the death penalty, until her grandmother was murdered. After that she changed her mind. She said that the thought of her taxes going every month to feed and shelter the person who had murdered her grandmother in cold blood was horrendous. I can see both points of view.

The crime was 17 years ago and I think he was convicted about 15 years ago. I believe he’s exhausted all appeals (although I don’t know whether the live streaming element gives his lawyers something else to appeal on). He’s not gone through the normal civilian court system, it was a court martial - maybe that’s why it’s a bit quicker than average. Now that his execution is approved by the president (required in a military execution), it has to take place within a set number of days.

Zimunya · 09/10/2026 10:58

@SharkyBait - plenty of awful stuff is streamed on the internet too. I agree with you that it would be better if the world did not see this as acceptable. But we have crossed this bridge already. Now, we have to vote with our feet and not watch / use channels that show these things.

PotolKimchi · 09/10/2026 10:59

Also remember he's a paraplegic and in a wheelchair. So the actual question being debated is whether they shoot him lying down or strap him in a wheelchair. Anyone comfortable with that needs to take a good long hard look at themselves.
And frankly should never again post on any thread about Dubai/ME that goes on and on about human rights abuses. I mean how is this any different from the Saudis chopping off the arms or public executions in Iran??

beguilingeyes · 09/10/2026 11:01

I despair that this is even up for debate. Live streaming an execution. It's barbaric.

What next. Throw the next one to the lions to get the ratings up? Have half time entertainment like the Super Bowl.

Hegseth is disgusting.

I believe it was Ghandi ( although I may be wrong), who said " if you take an eye for an eye, the whole world would become blind". Executions don't deter criminals and will never bring the victims back so what's the point, it just becomes a revenge killing.

I think it’s made worse by the fact the US positions itself as so superior to all other countries and feels the need to police everyone else.

And yes, I have no intention of watching/using any channel that decides to stream this. It’s just disgraceful.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/10/2026 11:03

It's pretty much a throwback to medieval times going to watch the executions in the town square.

LoisQ · 09/10/2026 11:04

I fully agree with the execution. But why live stream it?

hellomylov3 · 09/10/2026 11:04

I would be afraid of the sick people out there who get kicks from seeing a killing. The next step for them could be murder.

Johnogroats · 09/10/2026 11:04

It’s disgusting. I’m not pro death penalty, but that’s not my decision. If they were merely executing him we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Filming it and streaming it is quite unbelievable. It sinks to the level of isis and their snuff execution videos. Somehow I suspect the courts may well stop this.

This isn't about "him" do you think people are defending what he did ?
this is about showing someone being killed on a live platform just tune in and watch someone being shot, is.this something you would watch ?

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 09/10/2026 11:06

I think its obvious from this thread who would have been stood in the front of the queue to watch hangings in public back in the day.
