You know the ones. You see their username and think, excellent, they’re here.

Who are your Mumsnet favourites? No smooching required, just appreciation. 😏

Hello 😊

I occasionally lurk when I'm bored, but haven't posted for a long time. I stopped posting when the site became about adverts rather than the people and and community here.

I miss the old days and being able to chat with other weather interested people. I also miss some of the companions and friends I made here. I hope all the old timers lurking and posting here are well.

For those who joined in an era where they dont recognise names - you don't know what you missed. There's something very valuable about community, even online.

You’re still here! 🎉. I did wonder if you had simply name changed. Quick question ( unrelated to this thread). Do you think we are going to get another beast of the east, early next year?
edited to beast, not beat

GardenCovent · 04/10/2026 09:09

@MaddestGrannyi think it makes sense to name change but also to be very careful what you post.
I’ve been around in a time where posters profiles had photos of their children, birth announcements with every detail and posters posting easily identifiable personal information. This was in a time when the dangers of the internet had but been fully understood.
Back in those days it wouldn’t even have entered your head that something you wrote could end up in the Daily Mail for literally everyone to read

I'm very conscious of the newspapers and other media repeating threads on here so very careful these days.

LuckyHazelFox · 04/10/2026 09:27

I've noticed information I've shared here being used on another forum. You have to be so careful as there's some dark characters out there. Nice as pie on MN of course.

smallgreenandsplitthreeways · 04/10/2026 09:46

Pacificdogwood, Bertiebots, and bagonutsandbolts we’re all very kind and supportive when I was struggling with a nightmare toddler and newborn who wouldn’t sleep, I’ve named changed regularly since then, I don’t see it as being ‘old girls club’ or whatever, I think when people have taken time out of their day to give advice and sometimes their expertise, in a totally nonjudgmental way, they stick with you. Kindness goes a long way, especially when you are in the doldrums and can’t see an end insight.
My toddler is now heading towards adulthood and has become my best friend, and my non sleeping baby is now a great glumfing 15 year old! But I found those early years so challenging especially after my mum died, and those three posters really helped, bagonutsandbolts regularly sent me private messages off the main threads to check in with me, I think she worked in children’s services, and I’m absolutely sure it’s because of her dd and I now have a very strong bond, as there were times I was very close to simply packing my bags and leaving. Sure mumsnet has changed in the last two decades, but there are still some very kind helpful posters, and I don’t see the problem in acknowledging that.

BertieBotts offered great advice on the teenagers board when I needed it!

justasking111 · 04/10/2026 09:57

I can't recall their name but in the height of COVID lockdown when Wales went absolutely overboard with the power compared to England. There was a corner of comfort called the dementors it ran for a long time. I was able to offload my loneliness. Missing my children, grandchildren. My DH was like a caged animal until he got an e bike. Then he would vanish for a time every day.

I am so thankful to the posters on there.

justasking111 · 04/10/2026 10:03

@BogRollBOGOF. That was the name. Wonderful poster

Foolish1984 · 04/10/2026 10:11

I’ve never, ever disagreed with anything ‘Pyongyangkipperbang’ has said so she is my pick. I like when I recognise usernames of old, it reminds me of when MN used to be bloody hilarious! I miss that: ongoing scenarios that become long running, seriously funny threads. Now the serial troll hunters have put paid to those days.

I think this is the most fair & balanced view here so far.

To a certain extent I miss the old format and familiarity a great deal. There are a couple of posters who offered me some very sage advice around processing an extremely traumatic birth ( I had patches of memory loss & was driving myself insane trying to piece the whole thing together). Same experience when I miscarried, I would never have quite bared my soul in the same way on here these days…

I never got the whole “MN royalty” vibe, there were many who yes dominated threads occasionally and offered very sound and accurate advice. Remember this on many legal & relationship issues. These days it feels so much bigger, all ready for a bunfight at times, but with little knowledge or substance.
Many of the threads now on subjects like the Royal family, benefits, SEND, education and trans issues quickly become ugly, it often feels like it’s providing some form of sick entertainment for people at times, the typical “armchair warrior” feel.
I mainly hover here for a few niche areas, am kind of hoping it all levels out over time somehow, but you’re right, the community element has very much left the building here.

moochops · 04/10/2026 11:28

I remember iCod - lots of beauty-related posts.

CheltenhamLady · 04/10/2026 11:57

I don't really take notice of usernames, but I remember Xenia quite fondly. I think that anyone who posts with empathy, understanding and humility on any subject is a good poster. You just never know what is really going on in a posters life.

I have no time for those who want to kick someone when they are down, just to brighten their own day.

ForeverTheOptomist · 04/10/2026 12:02

This could potentially be very contentious!

Xenia told me in a previous name, that i wasn't trying hard enough. On a post about illness and benefits, so I don't think she was particularly empathetic, i am not going to start slating her, but she did think anybody not like her was weak and not doing themselves any favours for not working "a million hours a weeks 4 weeks after having babies "

OsfameronTanamoril · 04/10/2026 12:14

Xenia empathetic, humble and understanding? 😂Yeah, no.
I still enjoyed her because I don't take MN too seriously and I wasn't one of the SAHMS she liked to direct her ire at.

Yeah empathetic isnt a word that i would use to desctibe her either 😂
Tbh i dont she was being delibeateley goady its just her life was so far removed from others she just didnt understand why if she could do extraodinary things others couldnt either

There aren't that many mumsnetters I'd like to have met in person but AnyFucker was definitely one of them. She was fantastic - firm when it was called for but sympathetic and supportive when needed. For some reason I always used to picture her as Maggie Smith in her 40s.

I didn't always agree with SolidGoldBrass, either, but she was also someone who would call a spade a fucking spade when needed.

I miss solidgoldbrass, she seemed so grounded and decent. Also Randomess (?) comes over as a good person. Anyfucker was nice and straight talking.

This isn't about cliques, I like to acknowledge people who've helped me over the years. (Name changed recently).

Lomonald · 04/10/2026 12:29

I also wanted to say ive been here for years and not 1 of you mentioned me missing or otherwise in my previous name 😂

Yes i think you are right, she really couldn't see by her own experiences. However empathetic she was not 😀

Re the sound advice particularly in the legal section or health. A poster will appear advising to do the best actions re legal or health. Random posters then pop up saying prove you're a lawyer/barrister. Or prove you're a nurse/doctor/consultant.

I mean really, who asked them to pipe up anyway 🙄

BIWI · 04/10/2026 12:55

Xenia was the least empathetic poster I think I've ever come across!

I liked her. She was completely the opposite end of the political spectrum to me but we agreed one day that we could sit down with a glass of wine and have an amicable discussion. She was never nasty or passive aggressive.

Campervanadventures · 04/10/2026 13:40

Wearyaudwoman. I hope I have the spelling correct. I don’t know that she posts much but her responses are always wise, insightful and empathetic.

You've just reminded me Grannyweatherwax I think her name was. Lovely poster.
