To feel like my dating life is over now my hinge account has been banned

I got a message from hinge saying my account has been permanently banned for bullying and harassment but I know for a fact I haven’t done any of that. I have had the account for 3 years and never had a report. Now they have decided to permanently ban me with no chance of getting the account back. This has been really depressing for me because it was the way I used to get dates and meet people. What am I supposed to do now?

There isn't really a culture of establishing romantic prospects in real life nowadays, especially if you are past the age where the majority of your friends and friends of friends are single.

I get this - when you’re younger, you’ve generally got multiple single friends, who you go to pubs, clubs gigs etc with, and you end up mixing with groups of men in similar circumstances. So of course the odds of meeting someone are fairly good. But fast-forward 15-20 years and nearly all your mates are in relationships and aren’t going out like they used to, so you haven’t even got anyone to go to these events with, and even if you did, the number of single men has similarly dwindled.

So while it’s not impossible to meet someone in real life, it’s not so simple as you get older.

Step 1: type ‘www.google.com’ into your browser

Step 2: type ‘where to meet single men’ into the search box

Step 3: hit ‘enter’

I've just done that, out of idle curiosity . Having seen what Google suggested, I think I,would prefer Holy Orders. Alternatively, I might get arrested or sectioned if I followed some of the advice 😂

TY78910 · 02/10/2026 17:15

I must say I have never known any of my many friends who used dating apps to be banned… surely you must’ve said or done something?

Itsalmost2027 · 02/10/2026 17:18

This seems like some bad marketing ploy for Hinge

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 02/10/2026 17:20

Hakuba · 02/10/2026 15:13

say if it gets rejected?

Do three things:

  1. appeal
  2. enrol on other sites
  3. get a VPN and re-enrol with different ID (do a bit of research about what you need to do to avoid detection).

It's like saying 'don't worry you've been banned from sending emails because you can still post a letter'. Life has changed.

🤣

This.

To be honest this thread reminds me exactly of the recent holiday one where the op was having a hissy fit over it raining in France as it would ruin her insta photos.

She refused to listen to any suggestions and just ranted away. Have you recently returned from the South of France op?

Edited

And the endless 'Is Benidorm or Ibiza' a good holiday to pull a bloke on? threads.

They aren’t as good tho. Hinge is by far the superior one

How would they stop you starting another account? You can't get a simple esim for a different phone number? A different email? This can't be that hard.

RowsOfFlowers · 02/10/2026 17:26

OP you sound super immature and dramatic. Get a grip!

I don’t understand why you’re being so passive about this. You truly believe that you’ll never get another date (which is utterly ridiculous, by the way) but you aren’t willing to do the one thing that could have this whole situation sorted in minutes. Submit the sodding appeal. At least there’s a chance they’ll tell you what you did wrong. And then, if that doesn’t work, either buy a cheap sim or join a different site, or get yourself out into the world.

The studies all seem US based, but the majority of people still meet in real life, especially Gen Z, so all this nonsense about dating like that not existing anymore is just ridiculous.

UK studies indicate that 50% - 60% of couples met online

Between 13% - 20% met through mutual friends

Young adults have a higher incidence of meeting in real life

Hakuba · 02/10/2026 11:37

Yes I think so

My DS is 18, met his GF via friends and a shared hobby. Most of his peers who are 18/19 are the same - they meet people through things they do (sport, the gym, work, PT jobs, uni/college) so they know they have things in common and can tell, because they meet IRL whether they are attracted to them, like them as people, and - because they meet in a social setting amidst friends - it is safer than meeting a random on-line.

Many younger people are NOT meeting on line. I’d go and join a gym or something and meet people IRL.

PS I seem to recall reading about the fact that the whole point of dating apps is NOT to find you your perfect partner at all. If they did that, they’d run out of clients. They need you to FAIL to meet your perfect partner - over and over - so that you keep your subscription live (and money coming in).

Have you not noticed that the world has changed a bit over the past couple of decades??

Oh yeah, sorry, I completely forgot that social establishments don’t exist anymore 🙄

I live in a large village. We have two pubs. Once of them has recently set up a group night for networking for self-employed people. It also has a weekly group night specifically for socialising.

mtobrokeme · 02/10/2026 17:51

Mirsine · 02/10/2026 16:34

All the pubs are shutting down. It’s not the 80’s anymore.

No, they’re not. There are 6 pubs alone in the small town I live in. 2 gyms. There are 2 churches each operating different social activities if that’s the kind of thing someone’s interested in. Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley are all less than 30 minutes away offering even more in the way of actual social activities of all different genres.

Also, since I was only a small child in the late 80’s I’d have no idea what pubs/dating/etc were like then! 👍🏻

ImBeeZee · 02/10/2026 12:22

That’s like saying to someone who keeps failing their driving test, “how do you think people got around before cars and trains and buses existed?” No one can gallop a horse down the M25.

Nor is there a large population of horse-riding car-refusers who you can hang out with.

In the same way, you simply can’t date “the old fashioned way” any more. It’s gone. Probably it was slow, haphazard and ineffective and hence is no longer most people’s preferred way of finding someone to date.

Don’t humans interact with other humans in real life anymore? How can real life dating be dead?

They're all at music concerts! I was the only female in the nearest 40-50 people at a midweek concert recently and it’s not the first time I’ve noticed it. I mean smaller gigs, not Oasis size - although lots of men there too.

I know someone who met his gf at a stadium concert. That was recently, not thirty years ago.

Uricon2 · 02/10/2026 18:01

I do think this reliance on apps is shutting some people down from being open to real life encounters.

I tend to agree with this but the OP is only 28! What is a ‘situationship’ @Hakuba ? Excuse my ignorance I am very old.
