To feel like my dating life is over now my hinge account has been banned

I got a message from hinge saying my account has been permanently banned for bullying and harassment but I know for a fact I haven’t done any of that. I have had the account for 3 years and never had a report. Now they have decided to permanently ban me with no chance of getting the account back. This has been really depressing for me because it was the way I used to get dates and meet people. What am I supposed to do now?

You can’t they track your phone IP address. Literally dont onow what to do now

So buy a cheap iPhone 8 for £50 or an Android and get a sim deal for £2 per month.

AbsolutelyAppeal · 02/10/2026 16:15

Do you mean to be as frustrating as you are being? You’re 28, just go and deal with it and appeal.

SquidgyPudge · 02/10/2026 16:25

Hakuba · 02/10/2026 15:22

But hinge was an easy way to get dates. Now rhat cant happen

Now you are just being silly.

Why won't you appeal?

say if it gets rejected?

You’re joking now right?

just put the appeal in rather than messing about putting on here about it. If it is rejected then come back and ask for recommendations on alternatives if it doesn’t then you’re fine.

I feel like you need to use more critical thinking skills on this one. Plus please try to remember that you don’t NEED a man, if you go around feeling like you need one you could end up with a bad one or low self esteem because of not finding one. If you love you, someone else will too, so focus on yourself and not manufacturing a relationship.

Comesround · 02/10/2026 16:27

What is better about Hinge?

That question has no relevance in an era where online dating and matchmaking services are prominent. Do you expect OP to go back to the 90s?

The dating apps are dying. Bumble laid off a third of its workforce. Annual usage drops by double figures each year.

As an old-un I often think this. In my day if you wanted to meet someone you went to a disco!

Times have changed unfortunately.

The “disco” and drinking/going out scene is completely different to what it was back in your day.

Hinge is more for relationships whereas tinder is for a quick shag or holiday romance

I've been with mine 15 years who I met on Tinder. The one before him 12 years, can't remember which site but I've never been on Hinge

"my dating life is over"

How do you think people dated before the internet?

Silly comment.
When the internet didn't exist of course people met in real life. Now that online dating is the norm it's MUCH less common for people to ask each other out in real life.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/10/2026 16:31

Oh dear.

Tell us a disco full of eligible single middle aged men

They're all at music concerts! I was the only female in the nearest 40-50 people at a midweek concert recently and it’s not the first time I’ve noticed it. I mean smaller gigs, not Oasis size - although lots of men there too.

Why not just go to the pub like we all had to do before ‘Hinge’?

Edited

All the pubs are shutting down. It’s not the 80’s anymore.

I think it was a valid response to OP's doom and gloom posts.

It's like saying 'don't worry you've been banned from sending emails because you can still post a letter'. Life has changed.

There are still some pubs, but people don't approach each other.

I think all the upset over being banned from Hinge, means that OP was never interested in a relationship, just a series of first dates, and probably a free dinner.

I don’t drink

I met my partner in the gym (he's an instructor) and I know a lot of people who've met in the gym or through shared sports interests.

But I sympathise, I would have hated to have been banned from Hinge as I used it a long time and had a lot of genuinely good dates from it. My brother and cousin and many friends met their spouses on dating apps.

TheFormerMrsTruelove · 02/10/2026 16:48

I don’t understand why you’re being so passive about this. You truly believe that you’ll never get another date (which is utterly ridiculous, by the way) but you aren’t willing to do the one thing that could have this whole situation sorted in minutes. Submit the sodding appeal. At least there’s a chance they’ll tell you what you did wrong. And then, if that doesn’t work, either buy a cheap sim or join a different site, or get yourself out into the world.

The studies all seem US based, but the majority of people still meet in real life, especially Gen Z, so all this nonsense about dating like that not existing anymore is just ridiculous.

DiscombobulatedHedgehog · 02/10/2026 16:49

@Hakuba I met the love of my life walking my dog in 2020. There’s loads of ways to meet people!! You meet them in exactly the same ways as people have done for many years…in your life!

The only nasty, nasty, ex I have is one I met through trying dating apps, I would never do them again. Building naturally is a lovely way. Pubs are an easy place, and it is not obligatory to drink! My lovely son goes to the pub all the time to play pool and enjoy a bit of craic, and he rarely drinks. There’s lots of other opportunities too.

I'm truly not trying to be horrible, but OP's posts indicate that she (I assume, maybe it's a man) isn't great at following conversations; you say "just appeal, if it's rejected you're no worse off" and she replies, "but hinge was an easy way to get dates. Now that cant happen", which doesn't make any sense in context.

It suggests to me that she could possibly have made comments to people that landed differently to how she intended them. Should still try an appeal, though.

That was a myth when I was dating back in the 2010s but it wasn't true then and I suspect isn't true now. Men use ALL the dating sites to trawl for hook ups if that's what they are looking for.

I remember my friend in the late 2000s signing up to guardian soulmates because she thought it would weed out the fuck boys - guess what, it did not!

nrp2 · 02/10/2026 16:52

Try another dating site - using hinge to get a relationship clearly hasn't worked so far

Well, it was the Guardian.
