To feel like my dating life is over now my hinge account has been banned

I got a message from hinge saying my account has been permanently banned for bullying and harassment but I know for a fact I haven’t done any of that. I have had the account for 3 years and never had a report. Now they have decided to permanently ban me with no chance of getting the account back. This has been really depressing for me because it was the way I used to get dates and meet people. What am I supposed to do now?

Given the number of threads on MN about the problems women have with online dating, then going back to meeting people in real life rather than spending days or weeks messaging before actually meeting up might be a more productive alternative.

Just don’t know where to meet single guys tho

All these dating apps weren't around when I was dating, but I'm curious where do people's app preferences come from?

Surely the pool of men on all of these popular apps will be of the same quality? I'm sure the idiots just after a shag aren't going to be like 'ooh I'm going to stay off Bumble the woman are too frigid there'.

It's probably luck more than anything. People were lucky and maybe talked to a handful of nice people and had a couple of good dates on a certain app that convinces them it's better quality, whilst on another app they happened to talk to a few clowns in quick succession that soured their opinion of the app.

or perhaps i'm talking nonsense. Would be interested on posters thoughts...

Hinge is more for relationships whereas tinder is for a quick shag or holiday romance

How do you think people dated before the internet?

Agree. Melodramatic much, OP?!

mtobrokeme · 02/10/2026 12:07

Why not just go to the pub like we all had to do before ‘Hinge’?

Other dating sites are available, or you could try leaving your house and talking to people.

How many relationships have you found on there? Doesn't seem like you've found anything permanent.

I never understood this stance on Tinder. It’s where I met my now husband and I was on it for over a year on and off before we met. I went on about 4 dates before him but it was never a “quick shag” type of scenario.

surely it’s only that type of thing if it’s what you personally want, if not it doesn’t happen.

My husband, BIL, dad, granddad, father in law didn’t just want a shag and they all met their wives in a pub!

2 obvious answers.

  1. Appeal.

  2. Go on another dating app.

"my dating life is over"

How do you think people dated before the internet?

That’s like saying to someone who keeps failing their driving test, “how do you think people got around before cars and trains and buses existed?” No one can gallop a horse down the M25.

Nor is there a large population of horse-riding car-refusers who you can hang out with.

In the same way, you simply can’t date “the old fashioned way” any more. It’s gone. Probably it was slow, haphazard and ineffective and hence is no longer most people’s preferred way of finding someone to date.

PistachioTiramisu · 02/10/2026 12:23

Why don't you just try going out in the real world to meet people, rather than rely on a faceless app which hides goodness knows what?

mtobrokeme · 02/10/2026 12:25

Hakuba · 02/10/2026 12:15

‘Back when in the day’ - How old do you think I am?! Just put the apps down, go out, have fun and meet people! How can hiding behind a screen, unsure about who you’re actually talking to be better than meeting people from the get go?

Laurmolonlabe · 02/10/2026 12:31

Hakuba · 02/10/2026 10:20

The appeals don’t usually work apparently and they don’t give you a reason why

Quite simply if you don't appeal it there is no chance you can get it back, so unless there is something you are not telling us there is no reason why you would not appeal.

its harassment

One instance does not meet the legal definition of harassment in the UK.

LittlePetitePsychopath · 02/10/2026 12:31

Hakuba · 02/10/2026 11:37

Yes I think so

I don't know anyone who has met a long-term partner on Hinge. I know one person who met her husband on Tinder; and one person who met their fiancé on Facebook Dating, but otherwise it's all in person. In the pub, at work, through friends.

Online dating has many issues; but even once you've found someone, it's difficult to move past the idea that you're one of many options. I don't think that it's conducive to a relationship that anyone actually wants to put any effort into.

And I say that as someone who is happily married and has never really had a relationship with any problems! The online nature of it all makes you a bit replaceable; I think.

This.

plenty of people looking for relationships on Tinder. I met my partner there as did my sister. Men can be quite lazy … Tinder is the most well known.

CherryKerry · 02/10/2026 12:33

Doesn't sound like a great dating app if you're still trying after 3 years!

MrsSlocombesCat · 02/10/2026 12:37

I've had four serious relationships in my life and I have also had a few online dates. But none of my serious relationships started out as online dates. One I met while on a night out, one was someone I had known when we were teenagers, one I met at work and the other was a friend's brother.

Peachykeenclean · 02/10/2026 12:39

I was permanently banned from Hinge a few years ago. The guy I was seeing ended things and I looked on Hinge (where we were still matched) and he was online. I stupidly sent him a message on there saying "That didn't take long" - literally just that, nothing else. He reported it and that was that. I appealed it and it was dismissed

I shouldn't have done it

Edit to say I preferred Bumble anyway!

Edited

Actually funny, as you had to be on Hinge to see him. Did that no occur to you ???
